This article describes it pretty well. There are some exceptions, like if he wasn't recruited (including no meetings with his parents) but in general, he'll have to sit out a year.

Nice, educational article, Kes. Thanks. I wonder if TT recruited him as a "preferred" walk-on or he sits out a year just because he was recruited by schools other than TT. I'm guessing some school will offer him a scholarship to play out his 3 years eligibility based on what he did at TT this season.

I was not sure what the "recruited" reference was to. Do that mean
    1. recruited by any school or 2. recruited by the school he played for? If he was a walkon doesn't that mean he "tried out?" If so doesn't he fall into one of the exceptions?

Like Gip, I'd be curious how his situation relates to the rule.

It has to do with recruited by the school he walked on to. He probably tried out, but that doesn't mean the school then recruited him based on that try out. If he was provided with a scholarship offer, or the coaches met with his parents, or he took an official visit, (among other things) he was recruited by the school. He could gall into the exceptions and be able to use the one-time exemption if the school doesn't object, but I'm not familiar with his particular situation to know which exceptions would come into effect.

The odd thing here is that the guy who is going to start the bowl for Texas Tech was ahead of him at Lake Travis HS as well, both won state titles, the guy before them ...Garrett Gilbert...the QB who brought down Mack Brown.

You could reasonably argue that if Garrett Gilbert had been the QB he was expected to be in college...there would be no Mack Brown drama.

I guess the Gator Bowl is old hat to Nebraskans...so much so that they had to cancel a tour that had been going on for 27 years due to lack of interest from Husker Fans. Say it ain't so A.J!

You have to love this...Stanford the home of future tech millionaires. The guys who founded Google...Stanford guys, HP founded by Stanford guys, the list is long for Stanford guys who have made it big in the Tech world.

Well apparently they need an app to figure out what's going on with their Rose Bowl tickets...Michigan State (used to be cow college) people have out smarted them!! :)

    MSU Fans outflank Stanford Fans

Gators lost another QB to transfer, Tyler Murphy is leaving. I forget who the other QB is but that leaves you guys very thin at QB, a situation I'm very familiar with at Texas and ND. Seems almost impossible to develop QB depth these days, guys leave at the drop of the hat, or if you happen to have 1 good young QB it's sometimes tough to get another kid to come because they all want to start as freshmen.

Any word on your OCoord? Is Muschamp likely going to wait till after the bowls to pick his guy?

Murphy had a real good shot this year and he didn't quite git er done.

He knows that Jeff Driskel will absolutely start over him and if not Jeff then he would be beat out most likely by incoming freshman Will Grier.

Murphy was really a third stringer at UF.... Jacoby Brissett being the true 2nd stringer who opted for more possible playing time at NC State before the season.

    Man.... if Brissett only knew......

I saw where 7 offensive players, including 2 QBs, have transferred in the past week. One QB is graduating and will be able to play immediately at another program.

I can imagine the entire offense at UF ain't much of a hit with the da ladies if you know what I mean.

And not much of a hit with the other students or alumni as well so might as well hit the road and try to excel somewhere with a better offensive scheme.

In other words.... Muschamp hasn't convinced anyone that he can change.... not even his offensive players.

The new coach at Texas needs a transfer QB. My brother told me last night that there is a rumor that Michael Brewer who will start for Texas Tech at QB in their bowl game is considering transfering to Texas. His dad played QB at Texas and he has graduated so he could play right away. He also said the word from practices is that Tyrone Swoopes is awful at QB, so we have a problem in Austin at QB. An Athlete who has not yet learned to play QB, and a true freshman who has never played in college are the only 2 options for next year.

Tyler Murphy come on down, Michael Brewer come on down, JUCO QB come on down. It's wide open for you.

LOL...need a kid who could play next year! I did read though that UC/Tubberville is bringing in a JUCO QB so Gunner might not be the starter next year...or he might be...not a sure thing though.

T - how did the tu QB situation get to this point??

tu has five QBs on the roster: two seniors (McCoy and Boswell), a junior (Ash) and two freshmen

Florida has eight QBs on the roster: three juniors (Murphy, Driskel, Provancha), a sophomore, and four freshmen

WSU has six QBs on the roster: one junior (Halliday) and five freshmen

At a school like tu, how do you not have at least one QB from each class? Right now, with one QB commit, tu would be down to four QBs next year, with Ash as the only upper classmen.

    Transfers...

    Connor Wood transferred to Colorado
    Garret Gilbert transferred to SMU
Connor Brewer transferred to Arizona ...he's the one that hurts. For what ever the reason he ended up behind Case McCoy and saw Tyrone Swoopes coming and figured it was time to leave if he wanted to play.

Reality is that Boswell was a walkon, and the other freshman you see is Jalen Overstreet who was moved to RB this year. I guess they could move him back to QB but if you are moved to RB that says a lot about what they think of you as a QB.

    McCoy..Sr. Gone
Ash ..Jr...The young man should think long and hard about steping on the football field ever again given his problems with post-Concussion migraines.
Swoopes..can't throw the ball over the LOS
Herard ...is the #4 ranked Dual Threat QB...much more highly thought of as a QB than Swoopes who was the #13 Dual Threat. But still will be a true frosh.

Need a Transfer who can play right away!!!
