Brady Hoke and San Diego State are up on UTSA. Hoke seems to be a good fit for the the Aztecs. He was successful in his first time and he is doing well the 2nd time around.
Inevitable... A bowl is in jeopardy due to Covid. Miami is having a Covid outbreak. The Sun Bowl with Washington State is doubt. They are attempting to control it so that they can play. Canes battling COVID outbreak amid bowl preps
Well we have our first cancelation for covid. A&M has said that they can not field a team due to a Covid outbreak. No Gator Bowl. I hope Scott can get his money back!
Phooey. Luck would have it I did what I never do: bought insurance on the tickets. We'll see if they try to weasel out of paying up.
Good move re insurance. I never use to purchase it for trips or tickets but Covid will cause me to rethink that position. Covid has also bottomed out the secondary market for Orange Bowl tickets. The lowest price ticket was $850, now it’s $275.
I've heard the Aggies would have had 13 players on defense, so I kinda get why they are pulling the plug. A guy on Texags had an interesting idea. Let Wake Forest play Wazzu in the Sun bowl, and the Aggies play Miami (who is also having an outbreak) in the Gator a week later than current sched...
Looks like they might get an opponent for Wake Forrest. Illinois (5-7), which officially was eliminated from bowl contention once all eligible teams were selected on Dec. 5, is open to the possibility of playing in a bowl game, sources told ESPN. Marshall, which lost to Louisiana last week in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, also is interested in being a replacement opponent, sources told ESPN.
New rules regarding the CFP and Covid. It's possible that a team could win it without even playing a game. Also possible that there will not be a Champion this year. CFP: Champion can win via COVID-related forfeit
Bill O'Brien and Doug Marrone both are positive. Saban says that they are having only mild symptoms and should be able to to return for the game
Nice win for Army over Missouri. I thought Army had proved the theory that the prevent defense prevents you from winning. They let Missouri drive the field conceding the short pass. They only had 1:11 left when they got the ball down 22-21 after Missouri missed a wide open Rb for the 2 pt conversion. Army brought in their passing Qb and they drove to fg range and the kid whose longest fg was 33yds kicked a 41 yarder! I always root for the Service Academy's except when they play ND! First win over a power 5 school in 5 years
I was rooting for the Cadets but did not give them much of a chance of winning after Missouri scored late in the fourth quarter. The completion of the field goal was just icing on the cake.
Not great news for Georgia. Not sure why these teams waited till this week to do the booster. I'm not sure how fast you get the full benefit. Seems like it would have been better administered right after Thanksgiving. Georgia quarterback JT Daniels and receiver George Pickens are among UGA players who have been placed in COVID protocol, per sources. Daniels is vaccinated but Pickens’ vaccination status is unknown. The Georgia football medical staff will be offering its players booster shots on Wednesday amid the recent surge in COVID-related cases across the sports landscape. Coach Kirby Smart is not expected to be made available to the media to update player statuses until the team arrives in South Florida on Sunday.
Rutgers has now entered the picture for the Gator Bowl. They choose teams based on APR score and RU has a better APR than Illinois who the owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars is a graduate and is promoting them to the Gator Bowl committee.
Terry almost all of the Aggies were vaccinated... and it didn't matter as far as catching/spreading. It's a cold bug... you can get it either way.
RE: the gator bowl. It looks like I need this game cancelled to get my money back. If not, I think I'm screwed on the "insurance"...
I feel for you Scott. Unfortunately insurance companies rely on the fine print and in their favor 100% of the time.
Doesn't the Gator Bowl need to refund your money in order to re-sell the seat? I can't imagine they'd double dip. Maybe they don't care if there are many empty seats in the stadium.
Had to cancel a trip to Orlando over Christmas to see Fla Bucks (Jeremy) because his wife got Covid. (She's fine). We had booked a hotel at a non-refundable rate for 4 nights because we didn't see this coming. Told my wife to give them a call anyway...all they could say was no. Hilton very nicely refunded the money with no hassle. Thought I'd give them a shout out here even though not sports related...seemed kind of relevant.
Refs in Gasparilla Bowl making some bad calls imo. Fla guy should not have been ejected. UCF guy didn’t really slam the ball carrier down in the first half. Missed some holding where the D lineman’s jersey was practically ripped off. Also think UCF recovered the FB after that short kickoff. All just my opinion. They are PAC 12 refs.
