Yeah I would be surprised if anybody headed for the 1st round of the NFL draft whose team is not in the CFP doesn't opt out of their bowl game.
How do you violate NIL rules. Hell, Cam Newton's dad didn't violate the rules when they still had rules!
No, sucker that I am for anything on the Internet! Oh well, it did seem odd though now that I think about it.
I won't be surprised if they don't come up with some kind of regulations tho. Right now it's kinda the wild west and anything goes if it's documented...
Fake slide banned; NCAA bans 'fake slide' play made famous by Kenny Pickett's touchdown run in ACC title game
I'm not sure I would have noticed that he faked it to tell you the truth esp in real time, of course the guys calling the game caught it right away.
My first reaction to the ban was, Why? Upon further thought, and reading Stu's posted article, I realize that it could lead to defensive players continuing their full speed pursuit and possibly injuring a player who actually is sliding.
Yeah...it's kind of like faking going out of bounds to get the guy to pull back...or faking the spiking the ball to stop the clock to the defense doesn't defend...we go to such great lengths to end or limit unnecessary roughness that faking someone out like you're taking a knee etc. to get them to pull off shouldn't be allowed anymore than the unnecessary hit. Gotta give the kid credit, though...it was a nice tricky move and perfectly legal (at the time.)
Perception is reality for Notre Dame. While I love the Independent status and the freedom it brings to a program for scheduling purposes, it is simply not functional in today's Championship playoff scenario. This team is 11-1 and as hot as anyone in the nation right now but that is not good enough. The top two reasons that are cited by friend and foe alike are lack of conference affiliation and too soft a schedule. The latter is highly debatable..... Michigan won the B1G with an opponents composite record of 63-78. while ND's was 68-73. And the one year the Irish was in a conference they ran the table, 9-0. The difference is the conference championship game. We saw this last week. As someone pointed out above, if Georgia did not have to play the extra game they would have finished 12-0. Instead they were exposed but not punished for it. The handwriting is on the wall, I'm afraid.
I think Notre Dame does have an argument for being in the final 4. Michigan also has an argument. Cincinnati has an argument. Alabama has an argument. Georgia has an argument too. That's 5 teams to be selected for 4 slots. Someone is.going to be left out. What should be the deciding factor?
I don't really have a problem with the final four. I just think ND is positioned for 5th place more than the others because of that extra game. On another note, the Irish will play against Oklahoma State without our two best players who both declared for the NFL draft this morning. Kyle Hamilton and Kyren Williams both said goodbye.
I think the top 5 was easy. They were the only one loss or better teams left. That means one deserving team is left.out.
We were just in an odd spot. Alabama beat the #1 team soundly Georgia was undefeated regular season in the SEC. Michigan soundly beat Ohio State Cincinnati was undefeated and beat us on our field. We are a good team but just didn't have a signature win.
Plus, the back end of your schedule did not provide the team an opportunity to win a game against a real quality foe and provide a boost to your ratings. Beating Virginia, GT, and Stanford is not going to move the needle much.
I have no problem with how our season has turned out. I have no problem with the teams in the final four. I’m very happy with our 11-1 record and #5 ranking, especially when I remember how everyone felt after the Florida State game. I’m optimistic for our future. Life is good.
I'm actually enjoying the matchup with OK. St. The teams are evenly matched and the rankings seemed to agree. I think it gives us a good opportunity to see a Freeman coached team in a winnable but not must win game. We haven't been matched up with an equal foe in a NY6 bowl for literally decades. It's a litmus test, it's a stepping stone it's a game you want to win but won't be devastated if we loose. It's more practice time and a chance for younger players to get a great experience. I like our chances.
Minor bowls in the playoff era have had a hard time selling tickets. Watched a lot of games where the stands had very few fans. But not the Gasparilla Bowl!
5 star Qb, Quinn Ewers has posted that he will transfer to Texas. I imagine he will enroll for the Spring and go through Spring Drills. I wonder if this will lead to one or both of the QB'S on the roster now hitting the portal?
