I am not surprised by the decision, but I am surprised by how quickly it was reversed?

I honestly believe they are something that most people don't truly understand (and that goes for Administrators). This isn't about the swashbuckling Captain Harbaugh carrying off with his Southern booty of 5 stars. It's about getting kids seen. These camps are a pain in the ass to run and the fact that Harbaugh gets down there and runs it hands on is rather telling. Joey Jones does that with the USA camps and people in Alabama revere him for that, and many reasons.

BTW, Guerrero is a total asshole.

Corey, Joey Jones camps are all in Alabama aren't they? That's a little different, don't you think? Oh well it's okay, it's not that big of a deal. If the remote camps are effective then I'm sure that the practice will spread. Kind of like an arms race. :?

What the ACC should do it to hold conference camps in other area's of the country, and have them staffed by representatives from every school in the ACC. Make them free, and have an elite category for recruits that they are interested in evaluating.

Probably wouldn't help FSU, Miami, and Clemson...but the rest of the league could be helped by seeing players from other sections up close and personal. They should do 2 camps on the West Coast, an Upper Midwest camp , a Camp in Arizona and a camp in Texas.

Terry, I was kind of wondering where Alabama would hold one. I kind of think just wait and see. Alabama already has one of the top ranked recruiting classes without holding remote camps. "If it aint broke don't fix it" 8)

That's one of my personal mantras. It certainly applies in Alabama's case.

    KP,

I thought they had one in Florida? I do know what at the USA camp, you can be seen by several schools and that Alabama is one of them depending on the camp you attend. I know Iowa was attending the Samford camp but I'm not sure since these are back on.

Really though, what these camps are about is letting schools like Jacksonville State, UTM. UTC, USA etc get a shot at kids from a wide area.

People tend to get stuck in the mindset about DI recruiting. I don't think folks understand the level of jock sniffing these recruiting services do at the top level to chase kids and make sure the best schools are handed them.

Corey, I think all of S. Alabama's camps are in Alabama but of course we consider Pensacola and Panama City as LA (Lower Alabama) Of all of this could be so the kids could get seen, but it just seems like if you had the camp close to home, you could invite coaches from all over the country to your camp and accomplish the same thing. I think Michigan running a camp in Huntsville Alabama is all about recruiting, not altruism. 8)

Well the gloves are off, the SEC is in the satellite camp business. I'm reading on my Texas site that Fla and Texas are doing a couple of combined camps. Fla will co host camps in Texas with Texas and then Texas will go to Fla and co host camps in Fla. Sort of a home and home deal! :)

KP, I happen to agree with you. I think it's a situation though in which you can wind up throwing the baby out with the bath water. You're also correct that the panhandle of Florida might as well be LA.

I just think that getting kids seen should be the goal, so if these guys want to spend the money, then let them.

    Corey,
I hear you, but how far do we go with "so if these guys want to spend the money, then let them." ??? :?

This kind of like an Arms Race. Now that the door has been kicked down and the SEC has rescinded its restriction, I guess it is game on. I'm just not sure Alabama has to waste a lot of time on this.....yet! 8)

    You're absolutely right KP. It's Pandora's box.

It's just a legal one. This now allows for Alabama to set up shop in Los Angeles without having to drag the kid out to Tuscaloosa.

That is precisely why Dan Guerrero was against it. This is why I am precisely for it. California is never going to stop producing a lot of talent. What we need is more guys who know what to do with it when it is right under their nose.

    Get better or get gone.

For decades now, westerners watch as their kids star not just for their local programs, but for teams all across the country. The one notable exception to this is USC. When USC starts hoarding the local talent while cherry picking the country, they are almost unstoppable. It's much the way Texas should be, as well. The problem with USC is that their power hungry base and staff just can't stop cheating. I'm a little concerned about their new guy Helton. I think he may be the type that keeps all camps happy and wins without the bull****.

After 16 years of living in an area that maximizes what it has, I can say with all certainty that I spent the first 30 years living in an area that (for the most part) wastes what it has. I say raise the bar and get rid of the lazy.

I'd imagine that the only people to truly have a legit beef with these are the wives of the coaches.

With the June 6th camp back on, I know my son and lots of other kids will be there. Interesting enough, Michigan is getting in real early on a lot of kids in this area.
