Just got back from the game and I am happy. I am surprised no one mentioned the refs. This was one of the worst referred games I have seen in some time. The penalties interfered with both teams continuity. There was more time spent reviewing plays and stepping off yards than I have seen in a long time. Notice that I am not saying the Gators were screwed, but the focus of this game was way to much on the officials. Anyway I enjoyed the game, I think that Tennessee has a good QB and will keep improving. I am not sure what to think about the Gators at this point. The offense looked great early, Chris Rainey looked great the whole game but then things were pretty inconsistent for both teams.
Heck no......Tenn certainly did not quit. Down 30-7 and the crowd rockin I thought it could get worse and maybe would have if not for Rainey's fumble which gave Tenn a short field. Tyler Bray is going to be a great one for UT.......the boy is a player. Rogers is a good receiver also and those two didn't need assists from the pass interference calls to help them move the ball but there was more of those called against UF by far than in any game I can remember seeing the Gators play. In person....without benefit of TV analysis at least half of what seemed like 8 pass interferences looked highly questionable and were met with a strong chorus of boos from the crowd. In any event it was a very good.....hard played SEC battle between two long time rivals......and the good guys won. On UF....... The Gators have a D-line full of future NFL draft picks and some very young but athletic talent in the defensive backfield. We have an all-world placekicker who we sorely missed last year and without whom I think we lose this game......sorta like the MSU loss last year. Chris Rainey is all SEC caliber on offense but everyone else looked very pedestrian today......most especially Brantley. If UF can go 9-3 it will be a very good year for this bunch.
Gee thanks Tom. We are up early and ready to go back to North Carolina in a couple of hours. Even though I was not happy with the refs, I was happy that my team hung on to win. And I admire the way Tenn kept coming back. I am going to be shocked if Dooley doesn't turn Tenn into a consistent winner and does it the right way. And I think coach Boom may have a long career at Florida.
More on the refs: "The SEC officiating crew got flag happy, as Florida had 16 penalties for 150 yards and Tennessee had 10 for 94 yards. The officials were especially hard on the Gator secondary, making no less than six pass interference calls. All of those yellow flags made for a long, groan-filled day, as the game took nearly four hours to play." Going to watch "Breakfast with the Gators" today and get a look at some of those pass interference calls. My take in the stands was that 3 were no problem....good calls and 3 others were very questionable. It seemed like offensive interference was not in these refs heads whatsoever. Way too many flags.....as can happen sometimes in the flag happy SEC.
Our refs always have to be in the picture. I think they feel left out if the teams go too long without a penalty.....any penalty. :x
Agreed KP. I think these refs are texting their wives/girlfriends and saying "hey.....look at me....I'm on TV"...
After reviewing the replays the two most questionable pass intereference calls remain very questionable......one of which negated an int by UF. Muschamp was furious with the refs and UF was one shy of it's all time penalty count with 16 called. For good measure they flagged Tenn with 10 so what a yellow flag fest it was. I hope not to see that kind of crap the rest of the season.....in any SEC game. Otherwise a very entertaining game and I look forward to watching the Vols in action the rest of the season as I feel they will be competitive and fun to watch. I don't know why but I like Derek Dooley as a coach.
after so car barely got by navy and uga not being strong suddenly this gator team looks like they could win the east
Problem is they will be in an 0-2 hole most likely because of probable losses to Bama and LSU. But hey.....if the Zooker could hang a double-digit loss on the Tigers in Baton Rouge for their only loss in their 2003 NC season then anything is possible.
