hmmm <t>I guess no one is 'worthy'... who dare compare to a mighty Gator?<br/> <br/> I know there's one guy... QB of an 8-4 team. They've beaten top flight competition including this last week.<br/> <br/> He is a Junior....<br/> <br/> His QB rating is 160.5<br/> His completion %=72.7<br/> Passing yards=5298<br/> Yards Per Game=441.5<br/> TD=45<br/> INT=14<br/> <br/> And he's not even in the Heisman discussion. While he's not the runner Tebow is.. statistically speaking (and some of you Gators seem to love those) he is twice the passer.<br/> <br/> Sure, someone could argue that this kid is a 'product of his system' but at the same time... the same could be of Tebow.. As godlike and freakish his numbers may be...Tebow plays in a system in which he is their #1 RB and their QB....<br/> <br/> Its a system designed to be totally dependent on him.... just like this junior with no name..<br/> <br/> But looking at the man with no name's numbers.. I can see why he is clearly not 'worthy' of consideration.</t>
Alex Smith, Tim Tebow....you could argue that the Meyer system does produce QB's who are both RB and QB and the total focus of the offense.
LOL, I'm not convinced Meyer desires Tebow to be the leading rusher for UF. Looking back at his teams from 2003 through 2006 .... in none of those seasons was the team's leading passer also the leading rusher. I suspect, based upon what Meyer's been saying since this past spring, he'd love for one or two tailbacks to step forward and take over the position. Unfortunately, he's found a significant part of his rushing attack in his QB and a WRer.
Going <t>back to Bowling Green, Utah and now at Florida... his offense is dependent on a running QB who can throw.<br/> <br/> This is nothing new... His offense just has a better athlete now at QB.<br/> <br/> I'm just saying, you can LOL all you want but why not address the numbers of the QB with no name? You can't write him off as a product of the system when that tag applies to Tebow as well...<br/> <br/> And all I am really saying is that he is at LEAST worthy of consideration with numbers like that..</t>
Corey If you want to consider Harrell, go ahead, I don't believe anyone is keeping you from doing that. Now, if you're unhappy that many of the mediots are not promoting Harrell for Heisman, then you should email, phone, and write them to complain. WRT Meyer always liking a QB capable of running and passing the ball effectively, I don't believe anyone is denying that. However, as an aside, Meyer's only MNC came with a QB who wasn't the prototypical for Meyer's offensive system.
....... <r><QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> the question was asked...what makes them worthy...suggesting that others couldn't possibly even be in the same league for consideration of the award.<br/> <br/> I just provided one example of one player who is worthy of consideration, and isn't even being mentioned for the trophy.<br/> <br/> I'm sure you guys will have no problem carrying the torch for him and crying about the 'unjust and unfair' process that is keeping him from the award as well.</r>
Try reading a little closer. I said more worthy. What makes juniors more worthy just because they are juniors.
i did <t>I think you could make a case for him to be more worthy, and at least as worthy.<br/> <br/> What are the rules we're playing with? Tie goes to the Gator?</t>
I like Tebow, I wish there was a Jr/Sr who was having a great year. I don't like a freshman or soph winning the Heisman, and I actually think it will be bad for them. They'll be has beens before they graduate.
Stats from QB winners from Charlie Ward on: Tebow thru 11 games 177.1, 68.5%, 2870, 26/6, 749 rushing yards, 20 rushing TDs, 46 total TDs
If Tebow wins you Gators are going to take it in stride so that Bill can enjoy talking about it aren't you!!  For the record I like Tebow and if he wins he'll be deserving, not the only deserving candidate but a deserving one none the less. I think if Chase Daniel gets his team to the Nat'l Championship game I would like to see him win it though and if so he'd be as deserving as Tebow. IMHO.
Terry .... I think you need to be concerned with the "anti-Tebow" element if he should win, not UF fans. I don't believe anyone supporting TT for the Heisman said he was the only deserving candidate, just the player they thought should win the award ..... "most worthy" of the award. That's their opinion, just as some hold the opinion another player is "most worthy" of the award. I hope Tebow wins but if he doesn't, so be it. As I look back to the 2001 award, it's easy to see that the person I believe deserves the award is not always the guy who gets it. However, I can and do still think Grossman was the most deserving player in 2001 .... JMHO.
For the record <r>Honestly, if I had a vote.<br/> <br/> I'd vote for Tebow at this point.. But that's with some football to be played as well. Its not such a runaway that I'd cast my final vote for him now...and honestly, I would have voted for Dixon had his knee not blown up. Watching Schaeffer run thru that LSU defense like it wasn't there gave me a glimpse of what Dixon would have done to them in a bowl game...<br/> <br/> but I will say this... You want to have a 'serious' discussion about Heisman trophy winners and then you refer to last year's winner as:<br/> <QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> and you're bush league. you lose all credibility. if you are just name calling and having fun, go for it. hell i will join you. we'll be talking about 'bad heisman winners from Florida' for a while.. but if you want a credible debate, i'll join you there too..but dont refer to the kid as 'pwned smith' especially when you live in a rather large glass house of sh*tty Heisman winners...and you were just pan handling for one for sh*tty Rex Grossman.</r>
I think we all have seen one of our guys who was deserving come up short. Certainly to ND fans the Rocket was the best player in college football, he was feared by every opposing coach. He may have been one of the best college football players I've ever seen in terms of being a difference maker on offense. But Ty Detmer playing in a BYU system that routinely produced QB after QB with eye popping numbers won the trophy. Certainly Grossman had a great year, it was in fact I guess his last hurrah. He wasn't so great the next year and has been a journeyman QB in the NFL.
Corey I'm sorry I offended you sensibilities with that cut and past job from another board. If I'd thought your @$$ was so tight that you would blow a gasket and call names because of that, I'd have changed it. Really, I would have. Heck, I'll even edit my post so you won't have to see it, again. But, I just gotta laugh at you calling another bush league ........ that's just too funny. Terry Again, it's just my opinion that Grossman was more deserving than Crouch. And, I think the fact Miami was promoting Dorsey (who was #3 in the balloting) worked against Grossman ......... as Grossman worked against Dorsey. There's a chance that had one or the other of those two not been in the race, Crouch would not have won.
Gaterz...I have no problem with Tebow...he may be the most deserving player. I kind of agree with Terry on the underclassman kind of thing...I guess it partly depends on if you look only at one season or if you look at what the player has done for a couple of seasons. I know that you will say that the award is only for that one year, and I agree, but nonetheless it is worth looking at. Having said that, I'm not sure that there is anyone other than Colt Brennan who has put together multiple years. His rating last year was 185.96...and he's doing pretty well this year, also. And where did you get Troy Smith's stats from? Was that a typo or did you pick them up off some Florida Gator Blog? His QB rating in his senior year was 167.87. His career rating was 159.72.
Thanks Stu, I corrected T Smith's pass eff rating. And I wanted to check the others as far back as I could go via the NCAA site: 7 Matt Leinart, Southern California QB JR 13 412 269 65.29 6 1.46 3322 8.06 33 8.01 156.5 7 Jason White, Oklahoma QB SR 14 451 278 61.64 10 2.22 3846 8.53 40 8.87 158.1 5 Carson Palmer, Southern California QB SR 13 489 309 63.19 10 2.04 3942 8.06 33 6.75 149.1 61 Eric Crouch, Nebraska QB SR 12 189 105 55.56 10 5.29 1510 7.99 7 3.70 124.3 2 Chris Weinke, Florida St. QB SR 12 431 266 61.72 11 2.55 4167 9.67 33 7.66 163.1 Some of the numbers are different and I noted that Weinke is listed as winning in 1996 but was actually 2000.
