Sort of like the Mich player who punched a ND OL a few years ago under RR, and RR denied it happened and then Big 10 said it did and suspended him.
But the point I was trying to make, Terry, is the equity of making sweeping judgments based on one play or one event. You are also a Texas fan. Based on your knowledge of the Texas program during his era, is M really the type of coach who is going to ask his players to deliberately injure a key player from another team? My guess is your answer is no based on my recollection of your postings about him when he was the DC at Texas I think I understand the dynamics of the board and why certain events can cause a feeding frenzy but all this seems way over the top.
You have a point, and I don't really think that Muschamp ordered a hit on that kid. Just like I don't think RR ordered the UM kid to punch the ND kid, or that Ohio State kid to nearly collapse the windpipe of the Iowa QB or that Fla kid who tried to gouge out the eye, through the facemask, of some kid....I'm sure there are more. Even those renegade Miami squads, I don't think they were out to intentionally injure their opponents...rip out their pysche with taunting and stuff yes..
TOK, Speaking about dirty players, did Gordie try to elbow you when you met him in Houston? http://blog.detroitathletic.com/2010/04/06/my-favorite-gordie-howe-war-story/
I think the basis for JOCO's claim about the take out of the Lou's QB was that Florida's DC was directly quoted praising the hit. That guy said a lot of other things that were wrong too... but whatever, the game's over. onto next year.
This is impressive.... A Florida player stays to sing his final alma mater of the season all by himself
Jim, you've gone over the edge with your accusation that the coach(es) ordered that hit. Your comments are ********, just like when you accused Tommy Rees of being a coward after the 2011 Stanford game. Dial it back, man.
Sid, I am almost certain that Jim's responses are rib jabs at Dave. I totally understand that but I will join in with you to ask Jim to lower the volume control.
The point is......the DC did not think the hit was outside the lines of play and that speaks volumes about a lack of conspiratorial evidence. He didn't see it as late and he didn't see it as helmet to helmet.... and neither did I. I go back to the 1995 Sugar Bowl when Mickey Andrews coached FSU's defense and one of their linemen clearly came late and launched himself upwards while leading with his elbow up under Danny Weurfel's facemask. This intent to injure by FSU you couldn't miss. By today's rules that guy would have been ejected.
No it's not Bill... A chest thumping inconsiderate personality like Dave deserves what he gets. Just like Gonzo back in the day, Dave has to learn humility or this will continue in my opinion. And it is nobody's fault but Dave's. With that said, I did ask Jim to tone it down after Sid had already done so. Let's not perpetuate it.
You missed my point Tom. I agree about Dave's approach, but dealing with him does not have to be done by the ridiculous posts that Jim made. Whether you agree with me or not is ok we will just have agree to disagree. I don't intend to argue more on this topic, but I stated my opinion and am not changing it. For instance, just what did Dave have to do with Jim's analysis of the SEC as a whole. Never mind that the Championships have been against Big 10 teams, Big 12 teams and Pac 12 teams. Somehow that is from a conference that gets high rankings because they vote for each other? Give me a break. Don't worry though I am not hanging around this topic to argue like I have done a number of times in the past. I'm done with it other than lurking and reading and realizing that some of our posters, Sid, Bobda and Terry as examples, can see past the BS. Later
Really? This is another debate entirely nut I'll bet that if you reviewed all of my posts you would find that the only statements I make that clearly fall into the above category were made after either I, Florida or the SEC were already under some sort of attack. You and others can't understand it when I don't just fold up, agree and kiss ass.
Florida gave a clinic on showboating, taunting theatrics while getting their ass handed to them by Lousiville, from the HC right down to the water boy. But I did not have a problem with the hit in question. Most of us watched football in the 60s and 70s where hits like that took place many times every game. Remember Bednarik's hit on Gifford? Look at any Butkus highlight reel. I had a poster of him in high school shattering a running back's facemask into splinters with his forearm. The hit was timed properly and directly square into him. It's football.
