Joel, He's doing a great job so far. He's getting more kids to at least consider Rutgers whereas in the past they wouldn't waste their time and has picked up some great talent. NJ is also a little tricky and not an easy state to recruit home. This is especially true with the kids from bad drug infested neighborhoods, usually the best athletes. Some of those kids don't care where they go as long as they are far away from home, away from their friends who would only get them into trouble.. Greg also has a football camp in Florida and gets about 20 % of his players from that state. He is getting a lot of fast athletes and trying to turn them into football players through strength and conditioning. The next 4 games are huge, but even if they lost every one, they still had a great year as it's been 30 years since they had back to back winning seasons. If the soph QB steps up, they will win them all.
BT, I would not say that UF was "humbled" by Auburn. It was a one point game when the Leak "fumble" occurred and then on the last play of the game Auburn had 21-17 lead with no offensive touchdowns before they returned a desperation lateral for the final points. If they meet in Atlanta for the SECC I'll guarantee Florida will be a 4 1/2 point favorite at least.
Terry, RU upgraded their facilities. Their weight training facility is state of the art and one of the better ones in the nation. They have a bubble and outdoor practice facilities like everyone else. Their stadium is small , only holds 41K and was recently renovated. They do have access to the Meadowlands and will use it when ND gets back on their schedule. http://www.scarletknights.com/football/stadium/hale.asp Notre Dame cherry picks the state, but they will not go to places that some of these other schools will go. Kamara comes from the projects of Hoboken but we are talking about an area say 3-4 blocks long. The kids from that area are pretty decent and not known for trouble. They are surrounded by Yuppies who make well over 6 figures and pay 1500-2000 a month rent for a 1 bedroom apt. Some of the kids being recruited by Wisconsin,Minnesota Purdue and Iowa and a few ACC, SEC schools would never qualify by Notre Dame standards so there's a limit as to how far Weiss can go. A lot of times, they don't know if the kid qualifies until the last minute because they are taking the SAT's 2,3,4,5 times until they get the desired score. Purdue got a kid from Irvington arguably the most dangerous city in NJ. I can’t see Charlie going deep urban when he has national recruiting pull. ND doesn't have the time to dig real deep for nuggets when they can cherry pick the top 20 or so and move on. Weiss will not do anything much different from Willingham, Davis and Holtz even though he's from Jersey. He will not dig up Irvington, Newark, Elizabeth and areas similar and work on making marginal student athletes eligible.
It was a close ball game...you and I apparently use the term differently. I say it in the sense that no doubt the Gators left the field after losing more humble than they entered it.... if they did not, they should have. They were beaten.
Certainly BT the Gators coat of armor was dinged up at Auburn no question. To me humbled means losing your swagger and some of your confidence perhaps but I don't believe either of those things were the outcome for Florida after Auburn. I also don't think UF was overconfident or too full of themselves before the Auburn game which if true would have required some "humbling".
