Whatever you say Bill......I didn't offer any judgements on your scheduling, merely made an observation - that I believe is factual - as to its uniqueness in major college football. You obviously took exception to it.....well, it's raining here, the weather sucks and I take exception to that.....to whom should I direct my anger? You're way off base.....
Oh my gosh where to start. Almost every comment you made may have seemed like a observation to you but most of the were very biased not being willing to give the Gators any credit at all and seeing things from your own little world, yes I'll say this again. At one point you said Me thinks you didn't read Terry O and Sid's comments. Of course since they didn't agree with your position you ignore them and make the inaccurate statement above. I started conversing with you thinking we might have a conversation and listen to each other, however you mind is closed. Let me just say two more things. First as I said before ours and Ohio State's scheduling is very much the same. We both play 8 conference games We both play 4 non conference games Of the 4 non conference games both of us play three relatively easy games And one tough opponent home and home Those we have in common, what is different is that the one tough out of conference game is a rotating one for you and a historically tough in state rival for us. You choose to make a big deal out of the fact we don't travel across country without ever taking into account the circumstances that are different, our rial game with FSU. Yes T, that is very narrow minded on your part, very. And far from making just observations you passed judgment. Subtle perhaps but still you did. This post is long enough I'll end it and make one more.
I'll end with this comment. Yes I got frustrated, very frustrated with a narrow mind who can't see out of his own paradigm. And I made up my mind to be stubborn and get in the last word, why? Well because from time to time with a person I vew as taking a very narrow minded position I get my back up and intend to get in the last word. Right or wrong that 's what I do. Well I will have to admit failure this time, I can't get in the last word with you and at this point don't really want to any longer. I'll never convince you that their might be a position that could be equal to yours because you choose to deal with minor differences instead of understanding how we are much alike. I surrender, not to your superior position but to the fact that you are not open minded enough to realize others have reasons to do what they do also. Congratulations. And I did review the whole topic.
Whatever you say Bill.....have a good night. tomorrows lesson: Facts and/or observations -v- judgements and/or opinions.
Some team that plays on a blue field? By the way Corey, I love to watch Boise State play and almost always root for them. I just don't think they belong in the Championship game. I wish like Terry suggest in an earlier post some conference changes. I would love to see Boise in the Pac 10.
Bill, Although I prefer the round robin format, if the Pac10 were to become the Pac12 it wouldn't be the end of the world for me. The issue is though... who do you include? Boise makes sense in the world right now for football, but what about other sports? They aren't even remotely in the league of the Pac10 in most all other sports. Odds are, if they went to a Pac12 format, you'd have a coastal and mountain format. I'd bet you'd be looking at Utah and BYU.. but everyone hates BYU so that's a tough sell.. You can't reach out and grab a TCU although that would make recruiting interesting. The real issue is that there are idiots running schools like San Diego State. That school SHOULD be what Florida State is, but there is zero commitment from the University to make it happen. San Jose State is barely holding onto football as is and that's a damned shame. Hawaii would make sense if it wasn't an island halfway to Japan that no one wants to travel to. I think more likely would be something along the lines of what Terry suggested. A 'Mountain Western Athletic Conference' would be the most likely. The MWC is a BCS worthy conference right now. They only have 9 teams so you have a numbers issue ala the Big East... except the football is better in the MWC.. Also, the members of the MWC seem to absolutely love that conference. I don't see any of them leaving. I could see them adding 3 teams to become a MWAC. I think if you add Boise State and Fresno State.. then grab whoever the hell is the highest bidder for the #3 spot, that would make a brutal conference that you couldn't possibly keep out of the BCS. But even assuming they do that, would the BCS let them in? I'd bet they wouldn't. Remember the WAC was on the 'cutting edge' of the super conference movement with the SEC and Big12. They had a conference title game and everything.. but still left out in the cold. In fact, all that a MWAC would serve is the BCS.. it would serve as an elimination process of the 'BCS busters' so the 'big 6' can keep propping up their paper lions as legitimate football powers that are far superior to the 'nons' of the football world.
Corey, I agree about the Big East and am amazed they carry so much power. By the way there is a rumor that UCF may be invited into the Big East. That makes some sense but USF wouldn't like it. I don't think you and I are as far apart as to what we would like to see happen as far as a playoof, but we are probably pretty far apart as the intensity of our feelings about it. Also I would be happy with a 8 team playoff. You might call it an enhanced 8 team playoff as I would use the existing conference playoff week to narrow to 8 teams. Those conferences that don't have conference playoffs would have to match up that week in my system to narrow to 8 teams. Then they could be seeded and use the existing bowl system to move from there. As to the larger conferences that don't have round robin I think most are like the SEC where we play round robin in our division then have a set rotation to play the teams in the west and play them all every few years. But what the conference playoff does do is ensure a conference champion can not emerge because they played an easier schedule. Anyway I agree with a lot of your thoughts.
I agree. I have a feeling that, while you agree with the writer, you don't perhaps agree with the tone and outright dismissal of teams like Boise State. I just thought it was silly to imply that a team that has gone to play down between the hedges in Athens (and do so in a total rebuilding year) only to have the Bulldogs offer them a buyout rather than a return visit... and a team that has won in Autzen, beat OU etc etc etc.. just be dismissed so easily especially for implying that they don't go out and play people.. They try hard. They've become a good/great team. They are in that 'limbo state' in which they are good enough to beat anyone, but the programs that are considered 'somebody' won't give them the return trip. I did see next season they play Oregon State and @ Virginia Tech... maybe the writer doesn't know that..
You pretty well have me right Corey. I don't dismiss them outright but also am not comfortable with them bypassing a team with one loss in let's say the SEC and the Big 12. However I am just as uncomfortable with a team from the Big East also, I'm kind of amazed that we haven't had more teams from the Big East slip into the Championship game, but fortunately they still manage to beat each other. I would say that I agree with you that we need a playoff but like I said earlier it doesn't have to be 16 teams. I think we are not so far apart except perhaps the number of teams in a playoff and of course the passion you show for your position.
I think you can do 8 teams.. but if you do it fairly and inclusively, then the current 'Big6' wont stand for it and will demand 16 teams
