May is my doomsday month. This year my agent came in with a 30% increase. I dumped that company immediately and went back to NJ Horizon BC/BS, a company I had dumped for the same reason three years ago. They only bumped me 4%.

Now, who do we blame? Ambulance chasing lawyers? Greedy doctors? Patients who use their health insurance cards like a credit card, getting frivolous testing every time they have a twitch? Do we blame a do-nothing Congress? All of the above?

    How do we blame Bush?

I don't blame Bush as a man but I do blame the environment created by his time in office and the legislature behind him (for most of his years anyway).

It hasn't been managed well and as I said if that graph continued we would be appalled I am certain of it's steep rise since 2001.

I've owned this business since 1980. Healthcare has risen inexorably that entire time.

Legislature behind him? This Congress has done nothing productive in recent memory and has dedicated itself to causing Bush as much angst as it can going back to his win in 2001.

    you know who I blame?

<t>I blame people who think that government can solve the problem, that its government's responsibility to provide an answer and then when they get exactly what they asked for.....horrific mandated government coverage with companies (medical, pharmaceutical, insurance etc) who now have a captive group of clients/patients who have nowhere else to turn, and will immediately jack up the price of everything because...well... it HAS to be paid and there is no alternative..

but worse yet.. when they get what they ask for, they cry that its the evil business that took advantage of the sucker who begged to sign his soul away.

Staying out of this subject is just killing me.........grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

For those of you wondering what the hell I do now that I am out of baseball (God help me, not for much longer I hope)...

I do medical/health and prescription health insurance. No individual contracts, all corporate contracts. I deal with companies who employ as few as 5 to 10 employees... all the way up to Nike, IBM, Southwest Airlines etc. We are also the processor for plans as large as ICHP, United Health Care, BCBS of about 25 states right on down to the small little counties in the middle of some quiet midwestern state.

When sh*t goes wrong, I fix it. I know what is right about these coverages and what is wrong...and sadly, cannot comment due to monitored internet usage (yes, even when we're home) (*waves hi to corporate spy err hipaa quality control*)

What I can tell you is that you may well be right to be frustrated.. but you are casting blame on Republicans when the problem is soooo much bigger and deeper than that.. You keep playing pin the tail on the elephant when what you need to point out the problem is a laser pointer...thousands of them... This is a systemic problem that is only compounded by government intervention.

If you want a teeny-tiny microcosm of what I am speaking towards... Go read up on Medicare Part-D. Don't respond to me, just read. Tell me what you think. Tell me what is good about it, tell me what you think is bad.

And then, only then, will I show you how the ponzi scheme really works.</t>
