This was yesterday's USA Today lead story which I first saw in newsprint that I purchased at lunch and later found online so that I could share with my GOP buddies  .

It's the same link that I posted in my initial topic post.

    http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/2010-09-29-Boehner-House-speaker-fundraising_N.htm

Maybe you think USA Today is just a liberal blog but millions of people read it every day and think it's pretty credible news.

I guess you will have to wait for now because what I have is these statements in the USA Today article:

""The industries giving the most to Boehner: insurance companies, drug manufacturers and Wall Street firms, all of which now face new regulations adopted by the Democratic-controlled Congress."

    ...and

"Craig Holman of the watchdog group Public Citizen said "these industries have shown their hand to everybody by betting on John Boehner. … They will spend as much as they deem necessary to make sure Congress doesn't tread on their turf."

That is a far stretch from campaign contributions to "lining pockets". Making statements like that where you have zero proof would normally kill your credibility. Since you have none already, no harm no foul I guess.

I should have said lining the campaign coffers....my mistake.

Still appears to be a blatant attempt to maneuver into a position of influence.

Of course it is George.....and that's the point.

It's who it is and why that should be a concern to average Americans.

What is the big scandal here?

Political free speech and campaign contributions go hand in hand.

What is important is full disclosure...something that often is lacking. We need to know who is supporting our representatives and how much they are getting from whom. This is where our finance reform efforts should be concentrated.

That way populists like Dave can always keep an eye on how much the big, bad bourgeoisie are donating and to whom...and make sure the proletariats are made well aware of it.

Me, I'd like to limit how much George Soros, trial lawyers, and unions can donate...but that isn't how it should work.

Oh come on Stu, we all know Democratic campaign contributors like Soros get nothing for their contributions.

Hey.....both sides need to be held absolutely accountable for all actions that benefit a select few and that brings harm to many....especially when it involves those products or services that are essential to those harmed.

This "gothcha" mentality has got to go.

It's clear the Gator has no appreciation for the free enterprise system preferring instead to argue the merits of a central planned economy wherein capital is allocated and all innovation emanates from the bureaucratic bowels of the central government based upon the whims of political appointees......

Republicans and business fleece the citizenry, purchase political favor to the detriment of society whilst Dem/libs and labor take care of the downtrodden masses and contribute to political campaigns solely to support the democratic process.......

it's useless fellas. I am not even gonna try.....

.....as well as North Korea, Cuba, the once sprawling USSR and the entirety of the Soviet bloc. The next economic success of a centrally planned and state-run economy will be its first.......no choices, no innovation, no competition....just decay, decline, and inevitable failure.

Profit is not a dirty word, it is necessary for growth. Growth is necessary to create jobs for an expanding work force.....success is not something to be ashamed of and penalized, it is something to be admired and encouraged.....My God, look what we've done.

So when people no longer can afford drugs to keep them healthy and insurance to pay for care what happens when they show up at the hospital anyway.......most likely sicker than they should have been? Who pays for that?

With regard to the mortgage and credit card industry....they have shot themselves in the foot anyway.

Housing values are in the dumpster for a long long time it appears and I'll bet the credit card industry has lost the trust of consumers forever with their predatory....gothcha tactics that have been reigned in by reform.

I'm with TOK......let's nationalize them all, then nobody has to worry about anything, it's all taken care of and Barack, Rahm, Nancy and Harry can make all the decisions for everybody......that ought to do it.
