Ralph we've been down this path before. General applications in these kinds of situations are not practical. However, when it comes to multiple round firing assualt type rifles etc. hypersensitive rules need apply. Suspicious persons whether it be from a mental health data base and/or an FBI database.... and I'm talking very specifically about affiliations or pledges of support to violent or radical organizations... those people lose that privilege to own assualt weapons. if reasonable people with good intentions look intensely enough at the problem I'm sure some significant improvements in our gun laws could be made. When someone throws in an FBI investigation of Hillary Clinton's email server then reasonable with good intentions does not apply.
Dave as we are just regurgitating old arguments between ourselves and our processing on viewpoints (Worlds apart) are very different I'll leave you with this. Changes are coming, Hillary may get two judges once elected, the idea will be to flip SCOTUS. Once this happens they will challenge Heller and any other ruling they see fit achieving the gun control they want. Once this is achieved gun control reform will pour out from municipalities and liberal states. This will fracture our country even more causing unrest, I don't think the left realizes what this form of social engineering is capable of doing. This video is worth watching again but since general applications don't apply in these kinds of situations as you say you may gleem nothing from it... https://youtu.be/bnoFKskvSq4
No Fly - No Buy That's what it sounds like is going to to go down in Congress. No server - No serve her I don't think will be debated 8)
Sid, Maybe he would have been as proud as our Republican friends are that would be terrorists and mentally ill people were able to utilize their constitutional rights unimpeded and unchecked to purchase these military style weapons and wreak deadly murderous havoc upon other innocent U.S. civilians. God Bless America!!
So let's review what our Democratic friends have been doing. First they agreed to look the other way as Iran developed nuclear weapons and a missile system. And they gave Iran back millions to fund terrorism Then we have this administration giving Egypt run by the Muslim brotherhood state of the art fight jets. And to show how compassionate they are for those along the border, they actually provided automatic weapons to Mexican drug lords and their gangs in the insane Fast and Furious program. Now after helping and giving weapons to radical Muslims and Mexican drug lords, they're going to take away weapons from Americans. In France they have very strict gun control and we saw terrorists use guns at the Charley magazine attack and the slaughter last year at the theater and cabaret. In the Middle East they use suicide vests and car bombs. In Brussels they used bombs in suit cases. Only a complete idiot would think that passing any legislation would stop them from slaughtering their targets. Meanwhile since the slaughter in Orlando we've let into our country over 400 Syrian refugees some here in Florida. We're being led by treacherous morons.
To be clear, I posted the article about the inventor of the AR-15 because I believed it to be newsworthy. It does not mean I'm in favor of gun control legislation. I'm not.
Dave, I have to ask: Can you actually read, or does someone else type in your messages for you? You say this: Directly after seeing this:
When was Mateen issued his license vs. when did he pledge allegiance to Isis to the point of being investigated by the FBI? People and circumstances can change. Obviously there was something very amiss with him and my guess is that it had been going on for awhile..... wasn't just an overnight development. You can't say that this can't be improved without at least someone making the effort.
http://abcnews.go.com/US/orlando-shooter-turned-gun-store-suspicious/story?id=39901107 This guy had suspicion all over him. Just an epic fail in our system and gun laws. If the gun laws were changed to compel the FBI to be much more sensitive to this kind of citizen concerns especially from a gun store owner then maybe a red flag would have been attached to this guy and 49 innocent people would still be alive.
Ahhh, so a seller of firearms (deemed bad by the media) went out of his way to report this to the FBI and nothing came of it...I agree without a doubt that there is much room for change especially if you are on the No Fly list. But damn, this gun seller turned down profit because he was compelled and the govt agency in charge of ALL gun purchasing decided it was a none issue.. I don't want to hear anymore snarky remarks about guns, rules and regulations until the agency in charge is jacked up...And please don't dispense that they were handcuffed by the current rules in place, I call bullshyt on that...
I think if the FBI has clear and decisive laws that would compel them to act on such informatioon then they would. When the laws are driven by the NRA and promote willy nilly gun purchase by all it's kind of hard for the FBI to get all jacked up.
My soapbox moment: Other than the article I posted, I was going to stay away from this conversation, but Ralph's post above segues into my thoughts. I believe the crux of the problem is the lack of communication between and among the different levels of enforcement. Nobody wants to talk about fixing that because it takes a heckuva lot of effort on many levels. Until law enforcement gets its act together and decides to utilize available technology to cut down the time required for communication, nothing is going to improve. Re: gun control legislation, two words: Chicago and France, both horribly tragic situations in a city and a country where gun control legislation is as strong as it can be.
Dave a mistake was made in this instance and who knows how many other instances where the rules were in place. A Good Samaritan spoke up and was ignored for whatever reason and people sadly died * . Unfortunately the FBI is as political an institution as any in America and will blame the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Subways or McDonalds before actually taking the blame for a mistake. The NRA has their agenda as do most organizations and I don't agree with many of them but to say they hampered the FBI in this case is stretching it to say the least... We are not that far apart in this case Dave as there are a great many items that can be changed in what should be available to the market and who can buy them.. Where we probably differ is I have zero faith in any govt agency doing a decent job at anything unless they are covering their ass to stay employed and to think they are in charge of enforcing gun laws brings no comfort.. * I was reading some of the details from the survivors today and they are as terrible as we could imagine...Lots of hate and anger from the shooter and very racist against white people according to survivors
http://www.cbsnews.com/videos/48-hours-presents-the-spymasters-cia-in-the-crosshairs/ The show above is one probably many of you saw but if not it offers a fascinating look at the inner workings of the CIA over the past 20 years or so. In it 12 CIA Directors from those years are interviewed. What I gathered from it is that there are some very brave.... very talented people on our side and I'm glad we have them. But we also had some epic fails like the failure to stop 9-11 even though it was well known that Bin Laden had something major planned and also carrying through with the invasion of Iraq even though it was known by the CIA that he did not have WMDs. It is chilling to an extent because the failures stem mostly from a lack of cohesive thinking and strategy amongst our security agencies and the executive branch and Congress. Too many with their own agendas and not enough working together toward a common objective. At least in terms of new gun laws and other terrorism defense plans there has to be unity.... a one strategy fits all kind of action plan and complete and immediate sharing of known information. To continue down the same path without changes and improvements in these areas will leave us vulnerable to the next Omar Mateen and maybe worse.
Ummmm, a change of pace here...My offspring is much less forgiving of weakness sent me this....By the way, he is quite serious and capable as a young man. Don't believe all manhood has left the college ranks, it's there, just not mentioned by the media these days... If anyone thinks this is only a matter of legislation changes to who owns guns or who does not is very mistaken in the passion of independence this means to a core of Americans...
