    well again

    <t>you're talking about a rivalry based on recent heat brought about by Florida's recent dominance..<br/>
    <br/>
    I'd say historically Tech and Auburn are bigger rivals, HOWEVER, the Florida/Georgia one is really coming on strong. I know quite a few Georgia fans in this area.. They love the game with FL but they have a lot of hate for the Auburn Tigers and the boys in Atlanta.<br/>
    <br/>
    If Paul Johnson starts owning some dog arse at the end of the year, that rivalry will be as hot as any.</t>

    MCG, Who is Florida's most bitter rival? I thought, from my long distance vantage point, that it was FSU followed by Tenn.

    Year in and year out it probably is the Seminoles more than it is Ga and Tenn.

    In the SEC it historically has been Georgia but when Ga faltered and Tenn became an annual pain in the a** because of guys like Manning and Fulmer then some years Tenn was #1 on the hated list if not rival list.

    There was a time when the greatest rivalry in Southern Football was Alabama and Tenn.

    Speaking of rivals, interesting quote by RRod this morning. He was informed by AD Martin that Michigan had not one or two but three rivals. One is intra conference, one is intra state and one is.....well South Shore U.

    Interesting topic, raised for the umpteenth time.

    Everybody starts talking about their "multiple rivals" and how "it used to be A and now it's more like B", etc.

    It's easy to have rivals...even multiple ones. It's easy to have a rival whose @ss you kick every year (or visa versa). It's easy to hate some other school and easy to have your hatreds and rivalries change over time.

    For me, to qualify as one of the "best rivalries in sports" (or even "best in college football") it's got to be long-standing, intense, passionate, be fairly equally played out, and always played for big stakes. Feel free to add any qualities I've missed.

    I'm not gonna stump for mine here, but I see a lot of "rivalries" mentioned that don't meet those qualifications.

    The Third Saturday in October. It still is to a lot of people. There's even a book about it.

    Auburn is our biggest rival, unquestionably. I've talked about it before. This one is personal. It divides family. The third Saturday in October is a great rivalry and one that I have always enjoyed but the Alabama/Auburn game is pretty intense and the loser has to wade through the BS 364 days, at work, at church, and at home. There is no getting away from it.
