I have to laugh..... and accept the lowly fact that Florida is Michigan's bitch.

I guess Butch Jones beat Harbaugh to the punch. It's being reported that Tennessee just offered scholarships to 20 IMG students

    Don,
You mean this is about IMG and football. I thought you were talking about chess. Jones offered 20 of the best Chess players in the country to come to Tennessee. 8)

Hard to imagine a program with 20 Division 1 players.

This is a private "high school" that goes around the country recruiting high school football players. This is the place that Corey was talking about recruiting a player in Decatur Alabama. I'll bet more than 20 end up getting recruited.

Still recruit or not recruit, 20 Division 1 players is nuts. This isn't their 1st year and they didn't have 20 guys last year. I do have to wonder if HS coaches are going to decide not to play them. There isn't a HS anywhere that benefits from playing them, it's not like they'd get mad TV money or some national exposure, all HS football is local they don't need national exposure.

This is IMG. I think they have to say they are high school in order to maintain the eligibility of their players. This isn't a normal private high school, this is a sports camp that also at least pretends to teach high school classes. According to Corey, they came to Decatur, Alabama to get a player they wanted, so that player left his public high school and went to IMG. As I understand it they have an all-star program. Now do they have 20 legitimate D-1 prospects? Probably not but Tennessee probably isn't counting on getting a couple anyway.

    Terry,
I can think of 3 dozen teams that would play them who have yet to appear on their 'national schedule.' They don't play bad teams, but it isn't the murderers row they pretend it to be.

    KP,

They have 2 players from our area. The nabbed the LB from Buckhorn, Willl Ignont.

I don't know what claims they make for their schedule, other than the team they played in Texas is a very good program. Those NJ schools they played are names I recognize, and I think they produce some very good teams. But they only played 9 games last year. And from what I read that while they are a member of the Fla HS Ath. Assoc, as an independent they have no eligibility for playoffs or anything. I have to assume that the reason kids go there is to have access to their training facilities which are supposedly state of the art and to highly regarded coaches and to a education system that takes into account their football needs.

I don't know if the concept will spread like the basketball academies have spread, but they do seem to be unique in terms of facilities and top notch coaching. It does seem like the kids that they are getting are kids who really were going to be Div1 recruits anyway, I guess the motivation is to be better prepared for college and thus the Pro's.

The other thing I wonder is if they are cherry picking top HS talent from all over the country, how big a squad can they have. I mean if you get a hot shot QB, how do you get another hot shot QB? Those guys want to play, and not sit on the bench behind somebody. Same for every position. Those guys would get the vast majority of the playing time at their school, but if they have 16 Div 1 candidates at OL, somebody not getting the same amount of playing time as they would have back at their HS.

Corey, after he is done with the camp, I would be interested in finding out his thoughts about the experience, both positive and negative. The camps seem to be designed to both market the school in non Michigan areas and uncover potential recruits but I hope that they provide a fun, learning experience to all young players.

As long as it's legal then let him go to Florida for spring practice.

It is probably warmer than Ann Arbor that time of year.

Seems Ohio State and Michigan State have new competition on the horizon in the Big 10.

I will certainly get him to report it Bobda. I don't know if you read that article, but the comments are pretty awesome. I really hope some yocal shows up to 'welcome' Harbaugh to the South. I could probably put together a few bets real quick and make a few dollars off of Jim kicking his ass.
