Might be a good catch Tom. I read this morning that Alvarez has Pederson high on the list for Wisconsin.
Tenn <t>Tom,<br/> <br/> Looks like you got a good one. Hopefully this shuts the media up now. They've been running around yelling the sky is falling because Tenn didn't have their head coach position filled within 2 hrs of Dooley being fired! Give me a break. I think Jones will do well at Tenn.</t>
Thanks Terry and Tim. I left for the doctor'a office to get the 23 stitches out of my hand shortly after posting about the team meeting. There are other directions that the university could have taken that would have greatly concerned me. I am cautiously optimistic over this hire. I am sure that Peyton will be ready to retire from the NFL in 6 years, if not sooner, if Jones isn't working out.
Doubtful, it's sort of a way of life for them, I'm guessing they anticipate any coach who has success will move on to a bigger venue. Maybe if they can upgrade their facilities and build a new Stadium then they might stand a chance at holding on to coaches. Dantonio, Kelly, Jones...next man in.
To me, the fact that he put Colorado on hold to wait to see what Tennessee did with Strong and Gundy, it seems like he wants to be at Tennessee. That was the number one point on my list: Someone that wants to be at Tennessee. Jump in coach Jones... the water is fine!
Tenn has everything a coach needs to be successful, facilities, large stadium, alumni support, tradtion, etc....the only thing that Tenn lacks is a large in state recruiting base. He will have to get out and recruit the entire country, back in the day Tenn had success in Texas recruiting.
1. Congrats Tom. 2 On midmajors not being happy with coaches leaving.. has anyone checked out the meltdown over at Arky St? I realize I may be the only one, but that's because I am drawn to meltdowns...and they are melting down. They may pass legislation to ban ole Gus from the state of Arkansas...
Texas OCoord Byron Harsin is reportedly leaving Texas for the Ark State HC job, the one that Gus Malzahan just vacated for the Auburn Job. Maybe Major Applewhite will be the next OCoord. Texas fans are hoping Manny Diaz doesn't come back, but the were hoping that Harsin stayed. Trouble in River City, folks. Many are wondering if Texas Tech which was blindsided by Tommy Tubesteak suddenly bolting for the Cincy job will go after A&M OCoord and former Tech QB, Kliff Kingsbury. They missed out on Sonny Dykes who's dad had a lot of success out on the Plains in his day. Notre Dame DCoord Bob Diaco's name keeps coming up in coaching searches, supposedly his Big 10 background and success with the Irish defense has Barry Alvarez interested. Barry a former DCoord at ND during the 1988 Nat'l Title run might feel that lightening can strike twice. Diaco though is pretty young with a relatively thin resume compared to Barry in 1988.
10:56AM EST December 12. 2012 - Tommy Tuberville was in such a rush to leave Texas Tech that he didn't even have time to finish his dinner. Junior college offensive lineman Devonte Danzey, who was in Lubbock for an official visit last weekend, tells the recruiting site Wreckem247.com that Tuberville stepped away from a dinner with several recruits and assistant coaches on Friday night and never returned. On Saturday morning, Tuberville surprised many by accepting an offer to become Cincinnati's coach. Danzey tells Wreckem247.com that he asked Tuberville about his future plans at Texas Tech, how long he expected to remain with the program, but Tuberville tiptoed around the question. PHYSICAL: Tuberville gets physical with an assistant on the sidelines Moments later, Danzey says, Tuberville disappeared. "The waitress brought our food out, and we thought (Tuberville) went to the bathroom, but he never came back to dinner," Danzey said. "Then next thing I know, the next day, he made an announcement that he's going to Cincinnati." The next morning, when Danzey and other recruits were set to take a tour of the campus, Texas Tech offensive line coach Chris Thomsen (also the team's interim coach) told the group that Tuberville was gone. "There's always a next step," Tuberville said Saturday. Think this is bad? It's nothing compared to Tuberville's exit from Mississippi in 1998. Less than a week after saying "They'll have to carry me out of here in a pine box" – meaning he was locked in for life – Tuberville took the job at Auburn.
KK to Tech Sorry to see him go, but I'm not surpised. He's got a tough job to pull off, but I'm sure he'll get the offense sorted out pretty quick. No worries for us, It was Kevin's offense, and I have no doubt he'll find a very capable replacement without much difficulty.
Hard to say if this is a good thing for Golden or not, sanctions are coming and for the 2nd season in row the U has opted not to go to a bowl game. But if he could survive the sanctions the upside with recruiting for Miami is better than Wisconsin...but that's a big risk for him.
