Ralph, I do not think anyone on the Skybox, was disappointed with the whipping the Ducks put on FSU, and Mr. Jamis Moaning Winston in this game.
8) Some thoughts... - Under the old BCS system, the final game would have been FSU vs. Bama or two SEC teams. Instead we have an old fashioned Rose Bowl. Wags here are already calling it "The Texas Rose Bowl." - Oregon's 59 points was the most in Rose Bowl history; besting Michigan's 49 points against Stanford in 1902... - The Duckies could have tacked 80 on those weasels, but they pulled Mariota two minutes into the 4th quarter and shut down their offense... - Oregon is a LOT bigger than most folks realize. Their DL includes one guy 6'7" and another 6'8"... - Sportsmanship was in short supply in this one. - FSU fans (and their band) did the "war chant" and the "tomahawk chop" before every Duck play in an effort to drown out the QB's signals. It didn't matter. Oregon uses a system of hand signals and picture boards... - Duck players mocked the war chant throughout the game. They sang along and chanted, "No means no!" "No means no!" This was in reference to Famous Jameis sexual activities. Several Ducks are in trouble with their coach for this. He announced that he would handle this matter internally. Former players know what this means: grass drills, wind sprints and laps until you can't stand up or you throw up...been there; done that... - FSU fans walked out in the 3rd quarter. This left the Rose Bowl filled with Duck fans who did their own tomahawk chop and war chant. They performed this with their duck-callers, which sounded like Kazoos as they too sang, "No means no!" No means no." - Fewer than ten Criminoles went out to shake hands with Oregon after the game. The rest of their team ran for the locker room. Old-timers here can't remember ANY Rose Bowl team doing this before and they've been playing this game since 1902... - This is just my opinion, but I think the committee did a pretty good job of selecting the Final Four. The only mistake they made was Florida State...
Ding dong, the BCS is dead! As I mentioned several times last night, Florida State shaking hands with Oregon would have provided several FSU defenders with an opportunity to do something they hadn't all night... be anywhere near an Oregon Duck. This is why we shouldn't let the strip malls of America, like Florida State, into the Grandaddy of them all. Oregon rewrote the record book on them. Those records mean a lot to us in Pac12/Big10 country and letting someone drop video game numbers is just ********. I don't care if they were the last BCS Champion returning the entire team.. I understand why they had to be taken, but it's ********. No one is talking to me here and it is so lovely. Over the Christmas holiday and leading up to New Year's, I've been asked my opinion on 'how many TDs will ND lose by, does Oregon really belong, and how bad will Alabama whip Ohio State?' My answers have been as follows. ND stands a puncher's chance against LSU. Oregon is going to beat the ever loving **** out of Florida State. It may be the worst beating they've had since they became relevant and if it weren't for Urban Meyer, I'd pick Ohio State. I think the Buckeyes are hungry. I think their fans are hungry. I worry about Urban puckering... I took a lot of heat, but no one wants to talk now. Which is probably a good thing because the first thing out of my mouth is going to be 'Can you imagine how good the B1G is going to be once Harbaugh and Riley get going!?!' And while being shitty, I won't be kidding..even though they think I am..
I did predict Ohio State to win in another topic.... 34-27 which is a 7 point differential.... which is what they won by. On FSU getting in can you imagine the howling about the severely flawed playoff system if a 29-0 defending champion were not deemed worthy of being in the Final Four? My predictions made in a post on Dec. 9th: Oregon 42-30 over FSU Ohio State 34-27 over Bama
absolutely Dave and you're correct. I think the first few years of the playoffs, there will be a certain amount of 'washing away' the stain that is/was the BCS era. It's truly an era in which the media made the game in every way imaginable. As I said on facebook, hype has been replaced by hitting, sound bytes replaced by speed. It established a 'football royalty' with the actual pedigree of a bootleggin' Kennedy. Never should an undefeated major conference champ be left out. It can't be justified, and the fact that the BCS ever did this (and did so regularly) shows just how flawed that system was. I'm glad to playoff is here, but that doesn't stop me from mourning the history, our history, that we had to forego to see this day.
Emotions aside, and I despise FSU, they had to be one of the four as they were the undefeated defending Champs. These playoffs should be eight teams. Back in the day my school's( Carroll )most hated rival was Alter High who has given us Nick Mangold and Malik Zaire. Both Catholic schools, both sent 99.9% of their graduates to four year colleges, both hated each others guts and sportsmanship was totally lacking when we played. When I was a senior we met in front of about 15,000 people as two 8-0 teams, ranked 1-2 in Dayton and in the Top 20 in Ohio. We played at a neutral field for safety's sake. My coach's last bit of evangelical advice in a pep talk that would have made Rockne himself blush was " Now go out there and teach those rich pricks a lesson they'll never forget!" I took his message to heart. On one end sweep their QB, John McVay, who's dad would go on to become the GM of the 49ers, ran a bootleg. Our cornerback tripped him up on the sideline and I speared him on the ground when he was closer to the stands than the field. 15 yards and out of the game. Even my coach was incensed. The next week I ran "suicides" up and down the football field every night after practice. On the last night it was "Pride running" which was basically run until you puke. Final score? 23-23.
I'll not have to make any apologies for UF's resounding BCS Title game victory over a "team of the century" unbeaten Ohio State in 2006 and then in 2008 with a solid BCS Championship win over one of the highest scoring teams in NCAA history and BCS#1 Oklahoma..... that after UF dispatched unbeaten and BCS#1 Alabama on the field.... and not in the media. Nothing cheap about those two BCS Titles for Florida.
that's the thing. No one is saying there weren't great and title worthy SEC teams. You're making a different argument. It's the myth that the college football world couldn't compete in a system designed to exclude people based upon who they are, rather than what they are. It was a system designed by the SEC Commissioner and no one benefited it more. Even in years when the SEC didn't do well in the bowls, despite some pretty sweet matchups, that all got forgotten if they won the title game. You had 2 loss teams getting in. We're still seeing the bleed through in the mindset. As I said on FB yesterday, do not lose track of the idea that the popular narrative among credible members in the media was that there will be 2 SEC teams in the playoffs, and could we possibly justify 3!? Eventually, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy in which one conference is garnering at least half the total attention of the media. It becomes 'the' place to be. If you could unplug the bias for just 2 seconds to read the narrative in the media and in social media from the fans before this game... and then even after, it's laughable. If the shoe were on the other foot, you'd be saying the same thing that Kes, Scott, Rick, JOCO, et all and I have been saying for years now. The SEC will win titles again. They don't suck, although they didn't have a great year this year when it counted. They're human, just like everyone else and that's all we've been saying. No more fantasy land.
You may be missing my point Corey. In the two years I mentioned that UF won the BCS the Gators had some impressive championship game wins on the field over non-SEC teams to earn those titles. Without going over it year by year there were other teams.... certainly Bama is the big one.... who have also had very impressive wins on the field over non-SEC opponents to earn some BCS titles. The year of the all-SEC matchup between LSU-Bama could be a definite exception and I wouldn't blame you for questioning that one. But even when two loss LSU went to the title game they gave a great account of themselves on the field vs. a non-SEC opponent for the championship.

8) Even by 12Pac standards......Oregon is a strange place... <iframe width="640" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/_hrjpe1VCNg?feature=player_detailpage" frameborder="0"></iframe>
Corey, You got no heat from me and I'll talk now. Alabama got beat. I knew that Alabama was not the best team in the country and I said so, on this forum. Some on here accused me of crying wolf but I know my team and I try not to blow smoke about how great or how bad they are. I also agree that the SEC was down this year, but I also believe that the SEC has been the strongest conference, top to bottom, for the the previous several years and this year and maybe last year we benefited from our previous reputation. That will change of course, and if Harbaugh is the savior for the Big 10 that everyone thinks he is, then maybe they will emerge as the new king of the hill. Fortunately, we now have the play off that will at least give 4 teams a chance to make their case. 8)
kp. You've been consistent throughout the season in your assessment of your team. You've been a gentleman in defeat. I always have respected the Alabama football program, but since I've known you here, it's one more reason why I feel as I do.
Unfortunately, I can never run into KP around town. I have plenty good Bama friends who would talk, but most of them drank themselves into a coma and took the day off. I happen to agree with Sid btw, 100%.
No Dave, I didn't miss it but you're clearly missing mine. You see, in almost every year, including the 2 Florida titles you mentioned, I could cite teams that deserved a shot at the title. That's what you guys don't seem to get. For a decade, we had teams actively excluded because of WHO they were and not what they were. You then used the ends to justify the means. It was even more sickening when they'd say 'The BCS got it right' because they'd say 1 played 2 as if there was any other way it could go since the only poll that mattered was the god damned BCS poll. I've tried to simply give into the past and move onto the future, but you won't let the past go. So, here we go.
The 2006 Florida Gator national champion team was a fine club that beat Ohio State in the BCS title game. Other worthy contenders that year excluded by the system. -Undefeated Boise State who beat Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl. -Pac12 champion USC was a 2 loss team and left out because 2 loss teams weren't eligible for title games under the new system, they did away with that stuff....except the next year when they let LSU in the door with 2 losses. That USC team was the best 2 loss team I can ever remember seeing. They destroyed Bobda's Michigan squad in a beat down that could have been far, far worse than it was as even Bobda acknowledged at the time. Only an upset on USC at the end of the year by UCLA kept them out. Point being, there was at least 1 more team that could lay a viable claim to be deserving of a shot..but the system ignored them.
The 2008 Gators were a fine team and deserving of a championship shot. These Gators, like the 2006 version were a once beaten squad. Teams who deserved a shot but didn't get one. -Undefeated Utah, who put a physical stomp on the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Sugar to actually complete an undefeated season. -Boise State who finished the year undefeated, but lost their bowl game to TCU in the first of 2 travesty matchups against TCU. -1 loss USC who absolutely thumped the last great Pedo State team under Paterno in the Rose Bowl. That USC team lost in September to Oregon State at Oregon State. Florida actually lost 2 days later to Ole Miss AT HOME. Oklahoma, your opponent was beaten later in the season than either of you when they got bounced by ole Buttertooth Brown and the Texas Longhorns... There were several years in which the SEC opponent caused much outrage, and this was certainly one of them. You can say your titles were against 'the best' but that's ******** in the eyes of many. We learned long ago that we could never change the BCS to make it fair, we just had to wait it out.....and destroy the god damned thing. Here we are. No one would ever dare try to take your history and tradition from you. Congrats on your titles. You asked us to trade our history. Our way of doing things was mocked, ridiculed and held to contempt. We were called out dated. Nothing we wanted mattered... so we changed.. we got on board.. Now we're all on the same train..is everyone having fun? choo choo
