The decision has been made and the winner is: Lyman, South Carolina. For those of you that don't follow me on Facebook, here are the details I posted:

Well, the wheels are in motion. Our present mortgage company is setting up everything for us.

Our house is going on the market with an agent that knows this subdivision and has successfully closed houses here in the last few months. It will be going on the market in two weeks.

The agent provided to us in South Carolina has been supplied with our top three houses, one of which is 100 yards door to door from my brother Jimmy McCord and sister-in-law Mary Northcutt McCord. It is also 4 hours from my mother and stepfather rather than the 15 hours away we are now. 3 Br, 2 bath 2275 sq ft with a 3 car garage on 1.6 acres and no HOA to approve any changes we want to make.

Good Luck with the move Tom, I looked up Lyman, population less than 4K ..nice small town. Just barely in South Carolina and it looks like it's really close to some neat National Forrest.

I would have preferred you move to Hilton Head and built a home with a garage apartment...I might have become one of those guests who comes and then you can't get rid of!!! :D

The small town, National Forrest, and the mountain curvy roads, plus my brother living across the street didn't hurt the selection process. :) This place has an above the garage bonus room but it is not Hilton Head. ;)

Well, the first house was taking too long for them to consider the offer. We appreciated that delay because a new opportunity cam on the market yesterday. We withdrew our contract on the initial house and put down an offer on this 2891 sq ft 4 br 2.5 bath house with 4 car garage (2 attached and 2 detached) on 1.4 acres in a rural area of South Carolina called Chesnee. It is about 5 to 6 miles South of the North Carolina border.

The family and I were heading through to Greenville to grab a hotel for the night and heard about this chapel. You spiral your way up to what seems like three state borders until your totally lost, zero cell service so no modern mapping help. Stopped at a local store and had to ask for directions. Got the proper point in direction on the third try and found it. The most beautiful simplistic destination one could imagine.

Our son who was just out of college but decided to spend time with us in what’s been our last vacation together pulled out his banjo as we walked to this amazingly beautiful place. A few folks were mingling about and he acting like a seasoned pro starts playing gospel hymns and strangers start singing to the music. The music, the view and the togetherness was incredible, it’s worth seeing and taking a few minutes to appreciate what we each have...

AT&T is available where we are looking. Spectrum is within a mile and could be available soon.

Not a fan of satellite internet. I had Hughesnet in 2001 when that was all that was available in Jarrell, TX. The latency is no pun intended). enough to not work well and let a rain storm hit and you are dead in the water (no pun intended). Trees and rain block the signal from and to the satellite.

Well, the Chesnee house is no longer in our sights. The seller accepted a cash offer lower than the offer we presented due to the contingency of selling our house. A few days later, the cash offer never presented the earnest money and backed out of the offer. The realtor contacted my realtor to let him know it was available again. We offered $10k over asking to make the offer as strong as possible. He let the offer expire without ever accepting or rejecting it. That seller and realtor is one in the same. I will not have our realtor present any further contracts to him.

    The search continues...

Getting yanked around by a seller is frustrating as hell, especially when you give a full price offer (much less an offer above full price!).

The owners of the first house we wanted, directly across the street from my brother, have finally made their decision that they are ready to sell. Their daughter is moving out of state for employment and they want to be closer to her.

Our realtor and my brother are doing a walk through with us on Facetime tomorrow. If all looks good on this 18 month old house, we will be writing up a contract contingent on actual inspection on Saturday.

    Wish us luck!
