Palmdale is 50-60 miles north of LA in the high desert. My sister used to live there.

Aquila, I just re read the article and am at an absolute loss as to what you and Corey find so offensive. This guy is not clueless and he did not say anything about Tennessee that if I were a Tennessee fan I would find offensive. He simply said that Kiffin's contacts in S. California make him a player there.

He also said this might be just a one year thing.

Actually the article was more about Pete Carroll and his recruiting in California than anything else.

I find it an interesting article but hardly clueless and a few other adjectives you and Corey used.

But hey you are entitled to your opinion.

I tend to agree with Terry, no big deal.

Terry, so far the Gators have 17 verbal commitments. Of that 11 are from Florida and 2 from Georgia. The other four are from around the country.

Here in Florida we have stiff competition from Miami and FSU for in state talent. Getting a top player out of S. Florida is tough as most of them have wanted to go to the U. That is another area that Meyer seems to be making progress.

I don't think Meyer will ignore Florida and somewhere about 60% of our commitments will continue to come out of Florida.

I think you're missing my point here, Bill. I find nothing offensive about the article except for this writer making a mountain out of a mole hill. Speaking of which, I think you are making a mountain out of a mole hill about my dislike for the article. I just think it's a garbage article in which the writer is obviously a homer. If anything it shows how great the USC program has been when a fan of a team that is on the cusp of winning its 3rd NC in the last 4 years thinks it's a huge accomplishment that his team can get a recruit that USC wanted.

Obviously, a matter of opinion. However, allow me to rephrase. In attempting to see a bigger picture than what is actually there, this particular writer makes himself look a bit unlearned with regard to college football and college football recruiting, IMO, of course.
I never said that he did, and in fact, his comments about Tennessee do not offend me in the least. Those comments just show that he is a bit unlearned with regard to college football recruiting since he should know that Tennessee has regularly recruited the West Coast for years. It has very little to do with Lane Kiffin's presence although I would imagine that his presence should help going forward.

Once again, I can't believe we've spent this much time on this subject and I apologize if I offended you somehow by stating my opinion of this article. It has nothing to do with you or the University of Florida. I just don't agree with the premise of the article. That's all.

Ok Aquia, but saying it is a dumb article and the guy is clueless sure sounds to me like you took issue with the article.

If Corey hadn't posted his rant and the two were so close together I might not have said anything.

Let's just let it drop, you think he's clueless and I thought it was interesting. No problem there.

    I agree with Aquila here...

There is nothing 'new' about SoCal kids leaving, or kids anywhere from Cal leaving.

As I said before, just like Florida, there is so much talent in the state... that kids leave all the time. There are some that become future AAs who fly totally under the radar.

    On your current Florida roster:
    -Carl Moore
    -Duke Lemmens
    -Edwin Herbert

all hail from the state of California.

It's no big deal. With the nationwide, widespread TV coverage of college football the kids from the big talent states will go all over the country.

Maybe you guys just haven't been paying attention, but as I said, the Big12 has lived off of the states of Texas and California for decades now. Texas had a Heisman winner from San Diego!

In this week's Big12CG, Nebraska has 13 players on their roster and the vast majority of them ARE from SC's backyard (by the writer's standards). Texas will have 1 on their roster.

It's nothing new, I guess this guy was just ignorant to the fact that SoCal kids have been leaving for a long time.

Check rosters (past and present) throughout the Big10 and you'll see plenty of CA kids as well.

Well Corey that's a readable post and I don't disagree. However I think the Gators are in the hunt for a couple of other players from California and if we would get them then it might be a bit different.

Actually if we could get the players Carroll has gotten in the past from Florida I would probably be happy.

[quote="The suprise to me is that Golden Tate was named 1st team AA, Golden is a worthy 1st teamer no doubt, but I would have thought that the poor year by the Irish would have affected him as much as it did Clausen.

I think an ND player won the Heisman during a losing season. Paul Honung?

True. But he couldn't have been that bad he's in the NFL Hall of Fame as well as the college one.

    Terry,

True but the last dope smokin hippie from CA you put on your roster won the Heisman :D

    Bill,

I was reading about USC's latest super QB of the week who committed to them who had torched Bishop Amat HS in the playoffs. Listed in the schools he chose USC over was Florida.. oddly, no articles proclaiming or hinting at the death of Florida recruiting..

You guys have a great program.. that article jumped the shark though.

I guess that USC getting a QB out of California wasn't big news.

I really don't understand how the article jumped the shark but hey opinions are a lot like some body parts, everyone has one.
