You're right kp, UGA just killed it yesterday. 6 freakin' 5 stars. The #1 and #3 RB, the #1 QB, the #1 and #2 OG, the #1 OLB, the #2 SDE...geez what a class. At 23 I don't know if they are finished or not, but anything they add to this in Feb would just be cherries on top. Alabama is rising and Nick has room to grow the class. I doubt if he can catch Georgia I think there are only 4 -5 star rated kids not committed, but he can certainly end up with one of the best classes as usual. Longhorns ended up with 7 of the top 10 players in Texas and picked up a top rated JUCO OL who is from California. So things looking pretty good for Tom Herman, Longhorns should stay in the top 5 after Feb. Irish had 100% of their verbals sign, there are some guys out there who we are still chasing and 1 more is expected to sign on Friday bring our number to 21. We still need OL's and have some targets but we won't know until Feb I think if we have filled all of our needs.
I think with only a month to work that Mullen did very very well yesterday... especially with the signing of Jones.... signing being the operative word over "commitment". This more than makes up for the loss of Corral because Corral wasn't the style of Qb Mullen likes to work with in his offense. UF will be loaded at running back and if Van Jefferson from Ole Miss gets his eligibilty this 2018 season I really do feel that finally UF will break out of these offensive doldrums of the past 7 years.
Willie Taggert didn't have a good day, only 4 kids signed for FSU. But to be fair that FSU class started to fall apart after it became pretty obvious that Jimbo was not going to be there next year. He really didn't have much time to put things back together. I'm sure Miami fans and UF feel real bad for FSU! I listened to Tom Lugenbill on ESPNU last night and he said that about 1800 kids who were verbal commits sent in their LOI's and about 600 kids who had verballed to somebody did not send in their LOI's. Now some of those 600 might be waiting for some event, like a school signing party or something. He said that those kids who chose to wait till Feb now have leverage, they know who is committed where and where teams have holes that they need to fill. It will be interesting to see how kids and coaches adapt next year.
I haven't yet figured out the Taggert hire in the first place. Really reaching for straws on that one for the FSU admin. He may work out.... and he will have the chance to show unsigned recruits how much room there is at FSU in Feb. But for now it's a headscratcher...
247 has the teams list with signed kids and "Hard" commits whatever that means. Georgia has 5 more kids who have verballed but not signed and I've read that one of Michigan's top "Hard" Commits is seriously considering flipping to Georgia. It's a Tidal Wave to Athens. Ohio State signed all their kids and have no verbals out there unsigned. Texas signed all but 2 kids Penn State signed all but 1 kid Miami signed all but 2 kids Alabama signed all but 3 kids Clemson signed all their kids Notre Dame signed all their kids Oklahoma signed all but 3 kids Auburn signed all but 5 kids. https://247sports.com/Season/2018-Football/CompositeTeamRankings
  Mater Dei QB J.T. Daniels will skip his senior year of HS and join USC at the end of this year. He's a good student and will have enough units to graduate one year early. This is NOT unusual at California Catholic high schools. At my alma mater (Damien HS) all students have enough units to graduate by Christmas of their senior. Other units can be obtained in summer school. Looks like Daniels is the replacement for Darnold...
I wonder if Darnold want's to risk being selected by the Cleveland Browns. Of course if he stays he risks injury, loses a year he could be making money and there is no guarantee that the Browns won't get the #1 pick again next year. It's become common for kids, esp athletes, to graduate in Dec of their Sr. year, not so much to graduate in May of their Jr year. I read someplace that his parents held him back a year somewhere along the way so that age wise he fits into the 2018 class. This probably cements Amon Ra St. Brown to USC.
The history of the QBs being drafted by the Browns should cause any college QB to pause. In this case, I would stay at USC for another year! His draft status should improve as well. (assuming he is not injured)
At Damien, you are eligible to transfer to a public school and graduate at the end of your junior year. It was that way when I played which was a long time ago, I would assume it's probably the same for all students now at the school. As for the SC kid, I think it's about the money. If he's a top 5 pick now, he's risking an absolute ton of money to come back another year in college. I just don't see the upside of skipping the NFL, even if it's the Browns.
