Looking at today's player rankings Clemson has 3 of the Top 10 kids and UGA has 3 of the top 10 kids. Irish signed all 20 kids who had given them their verbal. Longhorns have 15 of 19 in and 2 who will decide on Thurs and 2 more who will decide later today 1 of them on ESPNU a couple of those that are being waited on are possible no shows.
Looks like Dabo bagged a highly ranked prospect from Ohio will a dab of negative recruiting: https://www.landof10.com/ohio-state/jackson-carman-clemson-ohio-state-early-signing-period-commit-2018
I'll bet Dabo has a conversation with that young man about repeating things he says in private!! Also since all the coaches will likely have a signing day press conference, I wonder if anybody will be brave enough to ask Dabo about it!
I guess Alabama is doing okay today. I saw where we got a guy from Mater Dei, 6ft 7in 315 lbs. Apparently his dad was a shot putter at Alabama .
KP, we gotta kicker outa Birmingham...and three picks outa Florida....and some Kid outa CA that's ranked top 10 triple threat QB.
It's a plus if they do....but we don't really need them Doc! 10 National titles Baby!! And we Curl to boot!! See Moos thread for more updates.
Haha! Ya think? our punter for the last 3 yrs has been one of our most potent weapons. Hopefully we've got another good one.
ESPN's recruiting coverage is absolutely worthless. I was watching their Signing Day coverage and they still had several players that had signed hours ago listed as 'verbals.' They actually only mentioned ND at the start, briefly, and then at the closing, to admit they didn't even talk about ND. It's like they wanted a cookie. I think ND brought in 20 guys today? I'll take that. I watched the videos for each of the players and holy **** there's a lot of speed and physicality coming in on defense. I mean, I know everyone loves the 5 stars and the hype machine, but I am good with this class so far.
Count me as one of those who'd like to have a handful of 5 star kids in every class. I believe the hype, and I think results show that a high % of 5 star players are difference makers on the field in college. Not all of them of course but I like my chances with a few in each class.
To my knowledge, Osborne never had a top 10 recruiting class in 25 years. I'm convinced, it's how you coach them up in YOUR SYSTEM. This is why we believe Coach Frost will do well and probably never break into the top ten during his tenure here.
The Dabo comment is getting a lot of play and Dabo isn't denying it, but says he doesn't remember it. But somebody dug up this quote from Jevan Snead who committed to Urban at Florida but then ended up signing with Texas. He told this to Bruce Feldman who was writing a book about recruiting. https://www.si.com/college-football/2017/12/20/dabo-swinney-jackson-carman-clemson-ohio-state-recruiting
Looks like we ended up with 20 signees yesterday, Losing Carmen to Clemson was a blow, but 19-year-olds can be unpredictable. The loss of Emory Jones was not nearly as costly to us. He always wanted to play games and be the star. Reminds me a lot of Terrelle Pryor. It will be interesting to see how he performs at Florida. Matthew Baldwin from Texas looks solid as J.T. Barrett and a three-star QB should fit in our plans well. Another long-standing California defensive commit flipped to the Seminoles. So goes the recruiting game.
It looks like Georgia killed it yesterday (6 5 Stars, Terry). I think Alabama addressed their needs. 5 defensive linemen but only 18 total so there should be a few more. I know we offered Coach Bryant's grandson (he's a qb) and we haven't signed a qb in this class. We'll see!
