Thank you George, if the heathens in Miami can get past their uncomfort at their coach proclaiming his spiritual beliefs this is going to be an incredible ride. I will be the first to say that of all universities Miami getting the caliber coach we got who is not a narcissistic jerk but Godly and family orientated is a bit ironic...A competitive Miami in my opinion is good for college football and one that has morals with good intent located on top of a major recruiting hotbed has never been seen before... Well maybe Howard Schnellenberger was the one coach who could be said to be in his class....
Scott, I heard Billy Liucci on local radio tonight on the way home, he did say that he thought Murray was going to stay. He did say something to the effect that before Allen announced his transfer that Kyler was looking as he was afraid that Allen was going to be the starter. He did say there were a lot of things going on right now at A&M that Sumlin has to get fixed. RE: Hugh Freeze...people have been saying he's dirty since he just miraculously started landing high profile kids and we're not talking kids from Miss but out of state kids. So far nobody has caught him with his hand in the cookie jar, but I'd bet it was there...just nobody can see it.
A good OC hire will fix a lot. Unfortunately I'm pretty sure his targets are all committed til the bowls are done. Laremy Tunsil is all I need to say about Freeze and Ole Miss. I'm sure they are being more careful with the "perks" to keep that episode frombeing repeated...
Looks like help is on the way sooner than expected for the A&M QB situation. Although while I read a number of reports that say they think Murray will stay at A&M, Kyler has not said anything and reportedly Sumlin and company are still working to convince him to stay. So stay tuned.
I really really hope that Georgia will come to severely regret sending Richt packing not because I have an affinity for Miami..... I just dislike success at Georgia that much!
Well Smart was able to convince the QB from Washington, Eason, who is a 5* QB to stick with UGA. I'm sure Smart will recruit well, he's been trained by one of the best in Saban and Georgia has a lot of talent. Question is will he be the next Bob Stoops or will he be the next Will Muschamp. I think Richt is going to do well at Miami, as a former player he knows the lay of the land down their in Coral Gables and since he was at Georgia he is very familiar with Florida recruiting both from his days at Georgia and don't forget he was a very successful OCoord for Bobby Bowden during his heyday at FSU. So it's not like he has to get up to speed on the high schools and their coaching staffs, he's already got relationships built over years.
Michigan/Harbaugh just picked up the #1 RB in the country in Kareem Walker who at one time was an Ohio State commit. Also got Devin Bush a LB away from his fathers Alma Mater, FSU. Harbaugh is rolling.
Terry can do a happy dance now that Kyler has asked for a release to transfer. If Im the coach Id restrict the heck out of any release... No SEC and no school in Texas or OK... I guess Hubenak gets to prove he's not just a Juco flash...
If Kirby is... well... Smart he will have learned from watching Muschamp's defense first.... "do we have to have an offensive practice?"..... style of losing. Even Muschamp says he has turned over a new leaf.... learned from his mistakes.... etc. I doubt it.
While most Texas fans do take joy in any pain over in College Station...I don't, I would have rathered you guys kept both Allen and Murray or at least 1 of them. I have lot's of A&M fans in the family and it's nicer when both programs are doing well. I know there are always recruiting implications when A&M is doing well but I really believe that if the Longhorns are doing well, which we clearly are not at the moment, then recruiting will take care of it's self. There are a lot of great players in the state and the programs that might suffer from strong teams at A&M and Texas are Baylor, TCU, OU, and out of state teams.
Aw it's OK Terry... turmoil can be good for your guys. I'm only getting bits of info and I hate to judge kids like that but a lot of stuff makes me think Murray was toxic. Very entitled, and maybe his departure was because the team wasn't giving the love he thought he deserved. Hopefully the time he sits for the transfer will mature him some and he'll be the QB we all thought he'd be, just somewhere else. The team seems to be rallying around Jake so let's move on and play some ball.
Had the chance to speak with a couple of Georgia fans yesterday and the feeling was everybody liked Richt but didn't feel he could bring them to the promised land and weren't sure it was his priority. But......There was apprehension if anyone can actually raise the bar to what Saban has accomplished at Alabama as he is the standard... The SEC seems to have a bad case of Sabanese and is doing everything it can to fix the problem...
It is true, whether or not Alabama wins the NC this year, they are currently the #1 program. Saban has really built something there, and what's impressive to me is not just that he has routinely brought in #1 ranked classes, this year he might have to settle for top 5, but he's also been able to replace coaches and continue to move forward in a winning way. If you remember Bobby Bowden's decline started when he lost Chuck D'Amato and Mark Richt as OCoord and then Mickey Andrews retired. He never really replaced those guys and the program suffered. Saban has not suffered that same, and I think it's not just because he's better at hiring coaches, but he's committed to an Alabama offense and an Alabama defense. I saw that when somebody recently asked him about Lane Kiffin he commented that he's been very happy, and that Lane has adapted to the Alabama way of doing things, he said when he brings in a new cooordinator he tells them there is a way of doing things and they have to adapt to that and not the kids. No new terminology for the kids to learn, no radical shifts in style of play. Sure Alabama isn't exactly the same under Kiffin as they were under Nussmeyer or McElwain but the kids didn't have to learn entire new offense and terminology. Very cruicial IMHO. At Notre Dame when we brought in a new DCoord the kids had to learn an entire new defense with new terminolgy, I don't think they have it down yet. Texas is bringing in a new OCoord who will bring in a new offense and new terminology (well maybe in this case it's a good thing). But point is that sometimes coaches keep changing things rather than stick with a basic philosophy that they believe in and work to improve it incrementally. That's Saban's genius.
The difference between Saban losing coordinators and Bobby Bowden losing coordinators is about 15 years of energy and mental acuity.
No there is truth to what Terry is saying, in the heyday of Miami they were changing coaches like the Kardashians change a camera lense but it kept humming along. The secret was the continuity of the program as nothing changed on the field even though the chiefs were going on to other pastures. What killed us eventually were the infractions and whatever coach at that time inability to handle the situation. Of course having Sports Illustrated recommending the termination of the football program didn't help. The other stabilizing force (Yes Obi Wan) was the incredible talent coming through the doors as Saban has been able to do. At this point its not so much Saban but the ability to push players to the next level and any All-American high school player worth his salt knows this and is making plans. There is a reason why Saban has a poster of the signing bonuses of his players in his office.... The momentum pushes it all forward....
