I of course don't like it that Trattou is visiting Gainesville, but I would be surprised if the changed his commitment from Notre Dame. He's a Jersey kid and I think he's pretty solid with the Irish. But stranger things have happened for sure. How many kids are you guys going to take anyway, 50? Seems like it when I read all the rumours of kids visiting UF etc.
Looks like Urban Meyer is making one last run at Justin Trattou, this afternoon. Hope he can pull it off!
Don't you Gators already have 4 DE commits? Have you got a lot of kids who you are thinking won't qualify for admission?
Just two "verbals" with one more that's a "soft verbal". Another DE per Scout is most likely a DT. What's a little interesting on Trattou is some of the UF recruitniks say he's being recruited as a DT. But who really knows, outside of the coaching staff.
I hope they tell him they are recruiting him as a DT, if in fact they are, because the moment they tell him that....he'll show them the door. He's one of those kids who has his mind made up, he's a DE. Now of course we all know that things change once they get on campus and the reality sets in that they may think that they are a DE, but that at that position they will never see the field. So they either transfer or move to where the coaches feel they can help the team and get on the field.
It's true. He said that since Notre Dame got a new defensive coordinator and have pledged to run a 3-4 defense next year that he no longer fits in . Let's analyze that for a moment. The Irish can Rick Minter as DC, a coach who in two years fielded perhaps major college's most inept defense. He is replaced by a professional coach who has strong ties to the NFL, is younger, has promised an attacking defense. Makes sense to me
Top 'O the mornin to ya: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/recruiting/columns/story?columnist=luginbill_tom&id=2738848 The Irish are #2 on this list.
Any word out of South Bend as to where ND stands with Major Wright? I believe he's visiting Miami this weekend and going to announce shortly thereafter.
Couple of comments. Trattou just verbaled to a great team but it is a team that has four other highly rated defensive ends in his recruiting class! Not to mention any that are currently on the roster. Contrast that to ND where they are starving for D linemen and where he stood a very good chance of starting as a freshmen or at least seeing a lot of playing time. It is puzzling. As far as Meyer goes, he is definitely on the super fast track. From a position coach in South Bend to HC at Bowling Green, Utah and now Florida. I don't think he is very popular outside of his current zip code and he seems, in my opinion, to burn a lot bridges behind him. He has won the NC in his second year at UF. How long will he be happy there? There are only two steps up left for him and that's HC at Ohio State or in the NFL.
George, methinks that you really don't understand Meyer very well if you think he's leaving Florida very soon, for Ohio State or any where else. But hey, we'll see as time goes by. As to the DE situation at Florida, most are gone and we are restocking. Harvey will be back but I would bet for only one more year, the other DE postion is wide open for these freshmen to compete, and the backup to Harvey as well. Next year could be a lean year for the gators on defense as we lose 9/11 starters.
Actually, Trattou is the 3rd DE commit with Dunlap and Lemmons being the other two. These 3 would bring the total of DEs to 6. Sidell Corley has now stated he's going to sign with bama. Jay Howard is looking at other schools - fsu and auburn. If he signs with UF, Howard would give UF seven on scholarship.
Bill, Urban is an Ohio boy. If Tressel were to leave anytime in the future for the NFL or anywhere else I would officially start holding my breath. I may not undertsand Meyer but I do know Ohio pretty well. And there is nothing in Meyer's resume to indicate he'll stay anywhere for very long.
Corley decommited from UF today. This really sucks. You guys got Trattou and lose Corley, it seems to me all would have been better off if Trattou stayed with ND and Corley with UF.
