Had to be a travel thing....kids from Nixa, Mo....9 miles south of Springfield...home to the Cards AA affiliate, and hometown of Payne Stewart....Taylor won the US Kids 9 year old State title there in 2004....
kp, this brief articlle doesn't fully answer your question, but it provides some insight into the football program's situation relative to the entire picture: http://www.sbnation.com/college-foo...miss-ncaa-investigation-allegations-violation
Have you guys ever heard of a Blue Shirt? I've heard of course of a Red Shirt where the kid doesn't play a year (usually a freshman year) and then has 4 years to compete. I've heard of a Gray Shirt, that's where the kid delays his enrollment till the 2nd semester so that his eligibility clock doesn't start till the fall of that year. Now apparently with a Blue Shirt, you can't sign a LOI, you can't have taken a paid visit to the school, or signed any financial agreements. You can enroll with your classmates in Sept, and you can then be put on scholarship and you would count against the next years class. You can practice after you've enrolled and play that fall. It's apparently a way around the oversigning issues. No practicing in the summer or August camp of the year you enroll, but after that it's all normal.
It does count against the next year's 25 though. No official visit and no LOI, that sounds awful risky for the recruit to wait that long. If something happens between NSD and start of the next fall semester and the school doesn't follow through, the kid is SOL. :?
Kp, Maybe it's time some of these youngsters are exposed to the risks for a change.? Food for thought?
Don, I hear what you're saying and I'm okay with this as long as we all realize that there is a lot that can happen between NSD and the next school year. Especially with no visits. This appears to be aimed at the marginal recruit.
as I said in another subject, you can't stop it and I don't care if they do it anymore. It's just a reality. To me, the moment the clear cash trail goes from Auburn boosters to Fellowship of Christian Athletes to the church of Cam Newton's father and the NCAA says there's nothing wrong with it, to me, we're just pretending to care at this point. FWIW, I think this Alabama staff is the cleanest ever except maybe Shula and they are at least as clean as his staff.
Corey, You could be right about that but there's not much you can do about a rogue booster trying to be part of the "team" and doing something stupid. That scares me as much as anything.
Well now that Sleepovers are old hat, Harbaugh is taking the Michigan Football team to IMG Academy for Spring Break. He and Michigan are pulling out all the stops to get Michigan back to the top. I wonder how much this will cost UM, not that the state will pay for it I'm sure that like at Texas the funding all comes from Donations (Big Cigars) and Money the Football program earns from all the various sources. So no money is diverted from higher education to football. http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/14706494/michigan-football-spend-spring-break-florida-practicing-bonding I wonder if anybody else will follow suit, maybe Alabama taking the football team on Spring Break to Kings Island Ohio?
That would be out of character for Saban. I'll bet Harbaugh would probably help Alabama get accommodations in Flint.
I can see it now.... Nick: Guys you know how Michigan is going to Fla for Spring Break, we'll those bastards won't out do us. We're going Ice Fishing in Wisconsin!!
I hate it when coaches and kids collude to lie to another school. http://espn.go.com/college-sports/recruiting/football/story/_/id/14713083/recruit-shavar-manuel-flip-florida-state-seminoles-florida-gators-planned-assistant-coach-boasts
