Who knows what influences these kids' thinking? I'm guessing that it relates more to perceived position on the depth chart and projected competition for playing time. If that's the case the programs "on a roll" like Florida are going to lose some kids, but the ones who stay committed are not exactly chopped liver.
I found it funny to read that amongst the reasons he is decomiting is that he wants to leave the state and get out on his own and he wants a good education. Ok so going to ND or LSU takes care of the getting out of state, but if he's really interested in education he has to go to ND. All he has to do is just look at where the schools are ranked in terms of education with ND in the top 25 and LSU not in the top 100, but also look at the grad rates where the Irish are consistently in the top 5 for football players and esp significant to him for Black football players we are usually double the rate for SEC teams like LSU. Not to mention at ND he'll have a real major and not be forced into some jock major.
Interesting recruiting strategy by Purdue. They have a class of 2 and 3 star players from Fla/Ga. Here's how it breaks down. They do have 1 4* and 1 JUCO. They have apparently given up on the midwest. I wonder how Purdue fans are looking at this class? Stu? No players from Indiana at all. The 4* is from Illinois. Florida - 12 Georgia - 3 Texas - 1 Kentucky - 1 New York - 1
Thought you ND guys might find it interesting that Nyshier Oliver is visiting Knoxville this weekend. Here's the complete list of the players on Rocky Top for the weekend. http://govolsxtra.com/news/2009/jan/23/moses-among-visitors-qb-mccarron-decides-against-v/
It's been bantered about on ND sites about Olivers visit to Tenn. Most of course consider it a bad sign since he was once committed to the Vols, and feel like it's a better than 50% chance that he'll go back to you guys now that the staff has changed and solidified. If goes back to you guys so be it. He's a good player but we are in good shape at WR and next year the class is loaded with WR's. I guess the only thing that might work in our favor is that his coach is a big Notre Dame homer and he's already supposedly bonded with all the NJ guys who are going to ND in his class. But maybe there is more opportunity to play early at Tenn? Or the girls are prettier!
According to an article online about him That's from a pay article so you won't be able to see the article. Oliver He is listed as a S on the Scout database, but in ND circles he's talked about as a WR/KR first. Seems to me that most kids who can play DB/WR tend to want to play WR first, but maybe he's different and with Monte Kiffin onboard he's liking playing S for him.
BGI is reporting thatlong time OL verbal Chris Watt, the Irish #1 rated recruit, may be looking around now as well. What the hell is going on?
Kiffin is really going after other teams verbals looking at that list on the link you provided. Nothing illegal about it of course.
I wonder if Oliver's visit to Tennessee is what prompted ND to go back after that kid who was committed to USC?
Certainly if the Irish could land Moore and Starling and given the WR depth we already have, then Oliver would have a hard time cracking the depth chart.
Tenn Staff getting some attention on ESPN for their aggressive recruiting style and for the amount of money they are earning. According to this article they are the highest paid staff in the country. Kiffin Ruffling Feathers
Actually the University of Washington also reported that same "secondary" violation. The article doesn't mention smoke machines but I have read someplace else that UW used a smoke machine. Secondary Violation by Wash Seems pretty petty to me.
lol Sark and Kiffin are both discovering that the media isn't as easily distracted in Seattle and Knoxville as it was in Los Angeles. At Tennessee, Kiffin is now swimming in the shark tank of lying, back stabbing, gossiping and cut-throat old boys who will exploit every perceived weakness..and if they can't find one, they'll make one up. At Washington, Sark's greatest enemy will be the sect of academics who loved Ty while hating Slick Rick (understandable) and Don James. They'll turn themselves in at the drop of a hat.
The inside skinny on Nyshier Oliver is that, when Weis found out he visited Lan Kiffen at Tennessee last weekend, he pulled his scholarship offer. He will hip-hopping to Rocky Top. Should be confirmed shortly I imagine.
I think the key factor was not that he took the visit but that when ND coaches called and asked if he was going he lied to them and said he wasn't going. When they found out, they pulled the offer, not that it makes any difference, I think the fact that he was going to Tenn for the visit meant that with the new Vol staff he was going to go back to Tenn. So pull scholarship or not, Oliver was not coming to ND.
