Congrats Terry! Poor Godfather. The 2010s are the first decade since the 1910s during which the Yankees have not won a pennant.
Yordan Alvarez. Likely AL rookie of the year, who had a terrific year with the Astros, has been a disaster recently. He finished the season weakly and as they pointed out last night, he's been so bad in the series we might as well have batted the pitcher. He was lifted for a pinch hitter and I will be surprised if he is our DH in the 2 games to open the WS in Houston. He can't play to field so he won't play in games at Washington. Utility player Diaz I'm betting will be the DH.
Lot of nostalgia for Tiger's fans in this Series. Game 1 pitchers will probably be Verlander vs Scherzer or Sanchez. All three were on the 2012-14 Tigers.
Game 1 will be Gerrit Cole. Still your point is valid, Detroit staff back in that period was pretty awesome.
So what do we have for game 1? Is it Cole vs Scherzer? Either way, there should be some great starting pitching in this series.
Nat's have 4 actual starters. We have 3 plus I guess a bullpen game. BTW when did the Bullpen game start substituting for the 4th or 5th starter? Is Tampa Bay the originator of that strategy?
I have been saying it all year. The Yankees can power there way to the playoffs on the long ball but when the pitching amps up they cannot create runs. They had two on and none out against Gerritt Cole and Gardener came up in an obvious bunt situation and hacked away. That tells you all you need to know.
Bit of a kerfuffle has erupted over a SI report that the Astros Asst GM screamed at a group of female reporters how 'F'n" glad he was that we have Rafel Osuna. Of course Osuna was involved in a nasty domestic abuse situation at Toronto before he came to Houston. The women reporters took that outburst as directed at them and of course the Astros deny it happened as those female reporters said. Astros deny intent of exec's support of Osuna I see that the Astros are the biggest WS favorites since the 2007 Red Sox vs Colorado. Just win.
I'll never understand why that piece of strategy has gone out the window in the MLB, but it has and the Yankees paid the price.
Nobody really plays small ball any more do they. It's bash it, swing up to create launch angle for HR's.
Was it Earl Weaver who was the master of Small Ball? I know for sure that former UT baseball coach Augie Garrido was a small ball guy...drove a lot of Texas baseball fans nuts though.
Soto doesn't play like a 20y/o. We had Max on the ropes several times but he just wouldn't give in. We left 11 men on base. Cole Started out well, then gave up 2 bombs which he's prone to do just like Verlander. But that 3 run 5th was his undoing. Still gave us 7 innings. Up to Verlander now to shut them down and go to Washington 1-1
