Hey Gonzo, while your waiting for your ND reply, how about explaining how an NFL pipeline school like "The U" gets embarrased by a bunch of "Cloud of Dust" boys?

    Choose your words carefully...

Charlie Weis: Remember When, And You Can Quote Me On This

    Taken from Blue-Gold Illustrated
    By Brian Combs

Yesterday, the mighty Fighting Irish of Notre Dame lost to a 2-8 Syracuse team. They're now 6-5 for the season, with an upcoming play date with USC.

The rumors are starting to swirl that this will be the end for Notre Dame head coach Charlie Wies. With his ten-year, fourty million dollar contract, no one knows exactly what the buyout would cost, but it is assumed to be in the range of twenty million dollars. If anyone can afford that, however, it's Notre Dame and their seven billion dollar endowment.

So, with Weis on the hot seat, let's take a look back at some of the fun-filled lines he's given us over the last few years. Rarely will you see such a potent mixture of arrogance and misunderstanding of the college game. We'll miss you, Charlie.

    8. "I'm going to answer that very cautiously, because I don't want to be called sarcastic using New Jersey rhetoric. So let me just say people better enjoy it now, have their fun now."
    - After last season.

    7. "You are what you are folks, and right now you're a 6-5 football team. And guess what? That's just not good enough. It's not good enough for you. And it's certainly not going to be good enough for me. So, if you think they hired me here to go .500, you...you got the wrong guy."

    6. "They're going to have to learn about us, OK? Let them try to stop a pro-style offense, which has multiple personnel groups and multiple formations. Let's see how they are going to do. They've had their advantage because I've come into recruiting late. Well, now it's X's and O's time. Let's see who has the advantage now."
    - After closing a mediocre recruiting class his first year.

    5. "Every game, you will have a decided schematic advantage."
    - To his players.

    4. "No one will want a piece of us in 2009."
    - During the 2007 season.

    3. "It's been a while since we've been up in the second half. So I told my guys to act like they've been there before. Don't make me look like an idiot."
    - After their first win in 2007.

    2. "Michigan St will never beat Notre Dame again under my watch."
    - After loss to Michigan State in 2005. They lost again in 2007 and 2008.

    1. "I've never lost to Pete Carroll and I'm not gonna start now."

Personally, I think we need to keep this 'emoti-post' section each week. I notice that the other sections are relatively drama and ramble free.

Oh yeah, George, I am curious.

Should we change for the sake of change, or only pull the trigger if a slam dunk is in place?

To say that I am more than gunshy over the two dipsh*ts who occupied Charlie's spot is an understatement. At present, you've got a guy who loves ND. He is a good person (something awfully underreported) and he recruits very well.

His on field product the past 2 seasons is... awful beyond description.. However, did this guy just forget football?

I think, at a minimum, major staff changes need to be made. There are problems that have existed ever since year 1. (our rushing attack for one, special teams for another).

But I just don't see the point in jumping off the cliff yet.

And I assure you, I am every bit as disgusted with that disgraceful effort Saturday as anyone else here.

I am posting his own words as illustration, as a yardstick to measure the on-field results against his own predictions, if you will.

The actual results show that every point he made has yielded the exact opposite results except for #4 which remains to be seen and #3 which was just a stupid remark.

In my view we are not seeing slow progression, we are seeing regression or at best floundering in the water.

Is he up to the task? Did he inadvertantly surround himseff with a staff of coaches who cannot coach? Only Tenuta has a solid pedigree at the college level. Are all of our recruiting classes overrated?

There are times this team is almost helpless out there. Would I replace Weis? If there were a solid choice on deck, in a NY heartbeat. Notre Dame is awash with cash; they made a terrible mistake giving an extension after two years. I think its time to buy their way out.

    George,

You and I aren't that far apart on this. I agree with what you are saying and doing there.

My point is that we don't need another guy who doesn't get ND. You know what I mean by that. We don't need another guy to come in here and act like he is inventing the place...or worse yet, act like we should try to be 'more like Texas A&M' (no offense Scott).

I don't think a guy who will come in and be a mediocre recruiter who won't give you anything but 7-5 annually is an upgrade over what we have now.

If they replace him, it better damn well be a high quality coach (and no, unlike the lynch mob at NDN I am not talking Meyer, Stoops or Gruden) who can get it done and get it done overnight.

If (and this is a big if) they dump Charlie after this year, the next coach will not have 90% of the hurdles that Weis had in taking this job. Everything he has will be right there for him. Charlie had been pointing to 09 as the year we hit the ground running again.

While I don't like the visual evidence of our 'improvement', it is still there and you can't say with all certainty that he is wrong about 09.

If you dump him and the next guy loses with a team of 4 year starters on OL, and a cupboard full of 4 and 5 star skill position guys who will all be returning with a year or two of experience...it would be catastrophic.

you guys are crazy....Charlie isn't going anywhere and he shouldn't be. Yes at times I question him (please one time a misdirection run) but he has made ND so much better. Ok, record doesn't show it, only good thing is these young guys hopefully will learn from this and seek blood next year. They are a much cockier, swagger team which is good. You can't tell me the guys they have (frosh) aren't better than many previous years. I know the coach gets the hammer with loses but seriously what you gonna do if your o-line can't open a hole for a 3rd and 1 constantly???

The commander on the field, don't let him off mr 21 yr old, who looks one way and one way only. Weis better open the competiton next year and Clausen may not be the guy, well not in my eyes.

So be ready folks next year when you all bow down to Charlie again. ND did improve this year.

I hear you, Doc. Charlie is like Moe Green... his "casino" is losing money. His linemen are getting knocked on their ass, two at a time. We're here to buy him out. He's unlucky.

:D 8) ....Maybe it goes back to a botched up stomach bypass that has led to a weight increase now held up by one good leg.

You know sometimes the $4million/year doesn't look as good as the $25 million buyout.......geeez....the guy is trying so hard to get fired and ND wont bite on the bait.

The USC game will look like a basketball score......maybe Charlie is hoping that the loss is so huge and lopsided that he'll get his 25 large ones for Xmas.

Maybe....just maybe....thats why hes now "not taking players to the game who's heart are not into it".....hell yeah.....Weis is a smart dude.....take out whatever quality players are left so its an 85-10 acore....that shoule do it.

Bring back Lou Holtz.....he is ceratinly the biggest ND brownoser....and perhaps angling for Charlie's job.
