Somewhat interesting. First time in a long time the Gators are mentioned as even a long shot. Breaking down the 16 real College Football Playoff title contenders for the 2019 season
I never place too much emphasis on these pre season predictions, especially by the media. Here is wishing success to all of our Skyboxers and their teams for the approaching season!
Don, I agree. Who knows what the hell is going to happen. Alabama has lost a 5 Star RB and a prospective starting ILB to preseason injuries. Our star QB did not finish last year well. So who knows how this season will go.
I don't put a lot of stock in the rankings, but at this time of year the hunger for football is starting to get the best of me. Right now we are in northern Michigan for one of our grand nieces wedding. Like kp said best of luck to all your teams, but I must add unless they are playing the Gators.
Not surprising that there are really only a few teams who will contend in November for the CFP. Sure there will be teams who get off to hot starts and look like they can make a run, but toughening schedule as the season goes on and injuries usually pares things down to about 6 or 8 teams at most. Pretty easy to pick Clemson and Alabama though. Somebody mentioned that in the playoff era there hasn't been a Conference Championship upset, bound to happen but the last one I can remember is when Kansas State upset Oklahoma in 2003. Didn't matter as the BCS math let OU play for the title anyway. They played LSU and lost, to Nick Saban! Lot of controversy over OU getting to play in that game after being beaten badly by KState 35-7. Baylor upsetting Kansas State in 2012 when they were ranked #1 doesn't really count because by then the B12 wasn't playing a Championship game. But it changed things and let Alabama back into the BCS Championship game vs Notre Dame. I sure wish we'd faced KState instead of the Tide!
Our 5 Star QB has not even been named the starter as of this week. I may not even watch the first game with Florida Atlantic.
I'll be shocked if Fields isn't the starter, but I think not naming him early keeps the pressure off of him. I see that Jalen Hurts is not yet been named the starter at OU either. I think in his case he might actually have some competition as both backups, Tanner Mordeciaor (RS Fresh) and Spencer Rattler(True Fresh) are very talented.
Tate Martell was not named the starting QB for Miami in the game against Florida. Jaren Williams was and I have no idea about him.
