Fosse and Rose had gone out to dinner together the night before. On this play you can see that Fosse is up line which makes him faire game. Rose played to win. I will always contend that if Rose had admitted to a gambling problem he would have been forgiven based on treatment and would have been in the HOF 25 years ago. One of the greatest ballplayers I ever saw.
Here's a shocker, to me at least. Mike Shildt is out as Cardinals manager over "philosophical differences" per the GM. He did a heckuva job this year IMO.
107 wins, best record in baseball and it all ends on a bad check swing call for the Giants. Dodgers/Braves just like last year.
He left game 4 with arm tightness, which I assume is enough of a concern that they don't feel he can pitch in the ALCS.
Astros win! Would have been an easy win except for the outstanding play of Hernandez. But that game was 4 freaking hours long! I guess both teams using 8 pitchers had something to do with it.
Interesting Stat. Most homeruns in the post season, now it certainly skewed to the players in playoff era. 1. Manny 29 in 111 games 2. Bernie Williams 22 in 121 games 3. Jose Altuve 20 in 68 games 4. Jeter 20 in 158 games
Bases loaded, Altuve lifts fly ball to Center, Hernandez zeros in on it to make the throw to the plate, Guriel beats his throw. But the runner on 2nd doesn't advance, why? Is it the fear the throw will be cut off and redirected to 3rd and he'll be thrown out?
First, how many outs were there? I'm guessing the 3rd base coach didn't want to risk the cutoff throw and the out at third base, especially if it would have been the third out. Also. he remains in scoring position on 2nd base. A conservative and, in my opinion, a wise coaching move if that indeed was the reason.
Sid, bases were loaded with no outs. Brantley hit into a DP right after Altuve's sac fly. So didn't make any difference.
