That was an amazing season for Lou Boudreau, I hadn't ever heard of it before you posted that link. Thanks!
Talk about a dumb move.. Milwaukee will likely be without top setup reliever Devin Williams for the playoffs after the right-hander broke his pitching hand punching a wall after having a few drinks following Sunday's game that clinched the National League Central division title for the Brewers. President of baseball operations David Stearns told reporters Williams will undergo surgery to put a plate in his hand to repair the fracture and that the injury will likely "keep him out for the remainder of the season." Williams told local reporters that after the team celebration, "I went out to have a few drinks and [at] my home I was a little frustrated, upset, and I punched a wall. That's how it happened."
The guy won an award last year for “ Reliever of the Year” and is considered the best set up reliever in the MLB. Major blow for Brewers caused by a mind numbing lack of self control.
Astros clinched the AL West tonight 3-2 over Tampa Bay at home. 4th Division title in the last 5 years. Took 2 out of 3 vs Tampa Bay. Finish the season with a 3 game set with Oakland at Minute Maid Park
Can you imagine this? NL West Giants 106-55, Dodgers 104-56 but leading the Padres so they could end the night 105-56. If Dodgers win tomorrow and the Giants lose, the would both finish with 106-56 records and would have a 1 game playoff to determine the Divison Champion. Win 106 games and have to go through a playoff.
Joe West ...done, heading off into the sunset of retirement. Umpire Joe West has officially informed Major League Baseball he will retire after the postseason. West, 68, broke the record for most games umpired, held by Bill Klem, when he was behind the plate for No. 5,376 in May. Record-breaking ump West to retire after playoffs.
Astros Guriel and Brantley finish 1-2 in the Batting Title race. Guriel .318 and Brantley .311 and there was nary a trashcan banging in the park!
Red Sox take out the Yankee's and now face the Ray's. Tonight, we get the Cards/Dodgers. There is a lot of playoff history between the Cards and the Dodgers.
White Sox @ Astros. We won the season series with the White Sox 5-2, but that was then so while I like the matchup with the White Sox, I still worry about our bullpen blowing games.
