Peyton is one of the greatest QB's to every play the game. I don't believe in anointing players as best ever but prefer to just calling a number of them as best in category. Manning is in that list and I don't see any controversy. The story of the last Super Bowl game was the Seattle defense which dominated the Denver team in all categories. Manning did not choke, but his line could not keep the Seattle players from being on top of him all night. On top of his ability as a player Manning is as classy a person who has ever played sports. In spite of how the Broncos lost that game Manning was his usual gracious self after. People who create controversy where there really is none could learn a lot from Manning. Hear me MCG?
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1945945-peyton-mannings-legacy-a-lazy-storyline-following-a-super-bowl-blowout From the article: "Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning and his legacy were such a big storyline in the weeks leading up to the Super Bowl that it's almost impossible we won't be talking about this all offseason." As usual Bill the whole sports nation is following my lead....man you give me a lot of credit.
Give me a break MCG, I never gave you credit for anything except trying to start controversy at any opportunity.
It's a legit question Bill.... one being asked in many sports circles post Super Bowl. How about from now on if we discuss all-time great NFL Qbs we 'll just leave Peyton out because it's "too controversial". I think Peyton Manning is going down as one of the greatest NFL Qbs of all time but I also think he leaves an asterisk by his name for many people.
T Yes.. I certainly do remember that picture of Y.A. TITTLE. 1956 0r 1957. Before the Pats were born ( 1960)..The NY GIANTS were the team of choice in New England. CBS Beamed their games into our living rooms every Sunday. Sam Huff...Rosey Grier Rosey Brown..Frank Gifford..Charlie Connerly..and a host of others were all my men!
Numbers don't lie. What were Terry Bradshaw's and John Elways numbers? When Bradshaw came up he was mocked as Lil Abner, a country idiot. Did he ever lose a big game?
Now here is a guy stirring up controversy: "Instead of the best quarterback in history," wrote Detroit News columnist Jerry Green, speaking as many have in the postgame aftermath, "I would call Peyton Manning the most overrated athlete in the annals of American professional sports." Wow....
Playoff numbers for a few other HOF Qbs: Qb / W/L / Comebacks / Game winning drives Bradshaw / 14-5 / 2 / 3 Rothlesberger / 10-4 / 2 / 3 Elway / 14-7 / 4 / 6 John Elway by these stats was a much more effective playoff Qb than I remember him to be. Hats off to Mr. Elway!
Tebow probably would have kept the closer with his running is about all. He could be figured for a weak armed pick six just like Peyton too against that defense.

I don't even bother reading through this whole topic and MCG's whole premise is ridiculous and I don't care how many links he finds. And why he has to find ways to stir things up with Tennessee is beyond me.
Head in the sand Bill..... don't let controversy get in the way of Shangri-La I guess. Personally I think being in the company of Bradshaw, Marino, Favre, etc. is pretty damned good no matter how you slice it. Not being on the same plateau as Montana and probably Elway and Brady is the issue here.
