The issue between the principal of Pahokee High School was not because the Principal displayed his Gator Flag, but because of the remarks Kiffin made at a booster meeting about the High School and did end up apologizing for. Along with the remarks about Meyer that he had to apologize for. Along with his misunderstanding of the Rules that the SEC commissioner chastised him for. If getting the principal to remove his Gator emblem from his web site is a victory for Kiffin then good for him.
Here's another Kiffin article. More Kiffin It contains this quote by Bruce Pearl He's wrong, meaning that if Gator fans are any example Pearl is highly respected. While some Gator fans may not like him, every time someone starts a negative topic about him there are a lot more positive posts about Pearl than negative. And he's beaten the Gators 6 or 7 times in a row.
Dang Bill, how many pointed hillbilly comments are made that WE HEAR ABOUT, much less how many are made at gator events that we never hear about? These comments were made tongue in cheek at a Tennessee Booster Club meeting. You tell me one program that does not make similar comments when they think that they are among friendly fans. Lane apologized several times for the amusement of those a$$holes. It wasn't until he did so when they could assemble a news crew that they were satisfied. What a bunch of morons. Do you want more than that???
Tom, I am not going to get cross ways with your over this or beat it to death. If in fact he was doing what you say it was poor judgment, if on the other hand he was serious and got called it showed a lack of knowledge. No matter he's the coach at Tennessee and I wish him well, in the long run finding a way to beat Florida, Georgia and Alabama will have a more to do with his success than any of this. Bruce Pearl impresses me very much. I like his enthusiasm, I love the way he and Pat Summitt interact. He's a class act in every way.
Bill, Even in the article you linked to as well as 100's of others out there, it quotes exactly what those people wanted an apology for. And I quote: That was what all this dog and pony show was all about. Does that sound like he was serious or does it sound like he was simply pumping up fans at a rally? Did that deserve multiple apologies when the vice mayor himself admitted that LK had apologized before? I guess the answer to those questions depends on whether your a Gator or Vol. I would have a whole lot more respect for how you Gators felt about this if there was at least one of you Gators calling for an apology for even one of the "disparaging comments" made by Spurrier against Tennessee. Those comments were made to media with the intention of it getting to Tennessee. The intention was NOT there in this situation. Now that it is the Tennessee coach ruffling some feathers, you guys can't stand it. Well tough crap. Keep on keepin' on Lane! Finally there is excitement in the Tennessee camp and that excitement has a name: CLK!
I don't remember Spurrier ruffling too many feathers in the SEC until he had proven he belonged. LK hasn't proven anything. This I agree with 110%....
Oh, so if you're a Gator, and if you have proven yourself, that gives you the right to make derogatory comments to make fun of other programs. That is the most asinine thing you have ever typed Dave. ... on the sports board anyway.
Tom...I am just saying Kiffin would do well to beat some of those rivals mentioned before he goes and stirs the pot. But hey...if he doesn't I'm sure he will catch some extra chastisement from the UT fans because of it. That's his choice I guess.
Dave, I know that you are not hampered by trying to stay on topic. However, try... just for this once... Concentrate. This apology and this entire topic was about comments that CLK made about a high school and a town. Not about a school that his team will be up against. So, what does that have to do with your last comment?
Tom.....those comments by LK are just part of his short history with the Vols and are in keeping with his style. I have a feeling that if he wins he will not be changing that style anytime soon but if he loses he will feel pressure from those at Tenn to temper it down a little. In any event he has made it interesting to see how Tenn progresses....not only from a Gator fan's standpoint but from a national media's standpoint as well. It does make for good copy.
