Bowl game financials aren't really made by attendance anymore. Now that tv rights have consolidated, it's all about how many cans of beer and recycled beer can truck beds they can sell.

I followed up that UT/Mich game with the UT/USC Nat'l Champ game. In both of those games the talent of Vince Young was front and center. He was quite the athlete, great runner, and an effective passer. He had an odd throwing motion that worked for him but clearly wasn't the polished throwing motion that Chad Henning or Matt Leinart had in those games. I thought while watching him how he was better than Lamar Jackson, but Lamar got lucky and was drafted by a coach who was determined to find a way to use his talents and not try to make him into a traditional drop back QB. Vince Young was forced on Jeff Fisher who wanted the Titans to draft Matt Leinart. They never meshed and Fisher didn't do for VY what John Harbaugh has done for Lamar Jackson. Vince didn't help himself either by the way he handled things.

Of course things are different now and more NFL teams are accepting of QB's like Deshaun Watson and Lamar Jackson and if Vince were coming out today a lot of teams would have adjusted their offenses to fit his skill. But that's water under the bridge. Looking at 2005, and how great a year Matt Leinart had, Vince Young had and even ND's Brady Quinn...none of them made it in the NFL.
