What Don said! There is still time. Besides you forget that Kevin Stepherson has been suspended 4 games for breaking the proverbial "Team Rules". He's been in Kelly's dog house since the Spring. Nobody has really known why, speculation that he wasn't cutting it in the classroom, that he wanted to transfer and all sorts of stuff. He's our 2nd best WR, but all during fall camp he's basically been working with the Scout team and Kelly's comments when asked have focused on them wanting him to pay attention to detail. Which led to speculation that Kelly was punishing him for not being a good practice player He did enroll so it's not an academic issue or he wouldn't be enrolled. So I guess this qualifies, except it's been an ongoing situation not one from out of the blue like the Frozen Five.
There's always someone who wants to poop in your punch bowl. Let me put it this way, I haven't missed hearing the lead story on sports shows that ND students have been arrested for something or thrown out of school for breaches of the honor code. We're going to miss Stepherson especially against Ga. but sometimes that makes the rest of the team more aware of what their responsibilities are. Holtz never had any trouble sitting his top players.
ugh, I don't even know what optimism is anymore. Well, that's not totally true. My friends who are Alabama fans have a tremendous amount of it. I hate that we aren't in that party anymore. I think the guys above pretty much capture the pulse of ND fans everywhere. Would we be shocked to reel off 10+ wins? No. Would we be shocked to be a 4 win joke? No.. That's the problem.
Pretty much how I felt Corey after the Muschamp meltdown season in which UF lost to Georgia Southern and Vandy.... amongst others enroute to a 4-8 season. It's taken a while to get that optimism back.... but I'm feeling it a little bit. If not a win I expect a top notch performance in a close loss vs. Michigan on Saturday.
2 more suspensions at Florida.... now the starting running back!! I remain optimistic that our top WR and top running back will not be injured in the opener vs. Michigan.....
For those that have B1G 10 network, the ASU (arky state) game is at 1930 hrs CST.... (thats 7:30 p.m. for you army and airfarce ladies). As long as I have followed NU, the first game is about 90% accurate read on how the season goes, so I'll reserve my thoughts until about 2245 hrs.....10:45 p.m. Doggies and cute little airboys....
The credit card fraud scandal has eaten my team up it seems. Out of sync.... out of top offensive players indefinitely... Optimism for this season..... gone in one game. 7-5 at best for these Gators
Alabama lost a starting outside linebacker, one of our key pass rushers and his back up for the season. Two other linebackers were hurt and may or may not miss time. Costly.
I remember when ND opened with Michigan each year and that always seemed to be a worry for us. While most folks were opening with Coastal Dental Tech, the Irish were banging heads with the Wolverines. Injury is always a concern. I see that Georgia lost their QB for the game against ND. Their backup looked awful good though and he was a highly prized recruit. It's just the cost that comes with playing these marquis games early in the year. Everyone wants to see them. Everyone has a comment about them. Few teams are willing to actually pay the price of them though. I think Bama will be fine, because you guys are awful deep on talent on that side of the ball.
Cory,I think our team MVP plays on defense and is possibly our outside linebacker, who provides our key pass rush. We lost our starting outside linebacker and his backup. I think that puts us down to folks who have played very little if at all. I think they are talented but very inexperienced. We'll see I guess, but with our sputtering offense and dinged up defense it is a concern.
very true, but you've got some time on the schedule to get things figured out. It's not like your offense is going to face FSU's defense each week, either.
Corey, that's true. My real point was the loss of FSU QB is a tough one for them and I hate to see Francois lose his season and I know this sounds bad but I would rather lose our qb than lose our best pass rusher and his backup. Our defense is our offense too! :?
haha! If people only knew how true that was. You could lose your QB and be just fine. Losing your top pass rusher is a blow. Still, you have some great young talent and I've seen a few of them in person. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
