I haven't laughed that hard in a LONG time... I'll be sure to sanitize my critique of the NU football team in an effort to keep AJ from curling into the fetal position and sucking his thumb!
Hitting a 9 iron 155 used to be so simple. The drive was the important factor. I'd first have to drive up to 5 or 6,000 ft. Then all of a sudden the 9 iron was flying.
Hey AJ I know you can appreciate this story A couple of weeks ago, Mary has a meeting in Liguna and so she takes along her arm candy.....ME! I decide to go golfing and I drive over to Tijaris Creek. I get paired up with a nice guy and his 14 yr. old son and just before we're about to tee off, a little kid (10) comes hurrying up to the tee. He tells us he's joining us. A short while later his dad drives up in a cart without clubs. Now I've played with guys who bring their kids along who don't play but this is the first time the kid's playing and the dad is just riding. After the 3 of us hit, the kid goes up to the red tees and hits it dead, solid, perfect. It's a par 5 and he's on with a short iron in regulation and just misses a birdie putt. He bogies 2 when his approach bounces through the green but he gets back the stroke 3 holes later when he cans a 25 footer for bird on a par 3. He doesn't even crack a smile and he seems to be not enjoying himself at all. Finally, I ask the guy playing with me, "who is this kid?" He says his name is Gordon Neale. He then tells me that the month before the kid came in second in the world junior championships. Sure enough, here's a link http://jwgc.bluegolf.com/bluegolf/jwgc7/event/jwgc71/contest/34/leaderboard.htm Seems his dad is a scratch golfer who is his coach. Guess the kid was just out for a practice round before some other big tournament. How depressing is that? BTW how's your son doing these days? Still having fun on the course?
Gotta love it, I finally start a topic that draws a lot of posts but somehow gets off track to golf!!   Now don't take this as a complaint, this is the kind of thing I love about Skybox where people can gather and talk to each other!  Gipper, that's some story, good thing you weren't betting this kid! Have a great day all.
And there lies the problem. Taylor didn't play much tourney golf this year because he wanted to play baseball (3/4 of the year in Tucson) and try basketball & track. Let them go at their own pace and see what impresses them. Lionel "Mert" Martin taught me that one.
Amen. But, there's few things I enjoy better than teeing it up with Commish. Golf is a game for life (or at least most of it.)
Mert taught you well. Nice going Marine. Gip, I can picture you and Commish playing golf together. Dad and son. Very nice. Just how competitive does it get? Give him my best.
We usually have a good time. When he was young he used to say that someday he'd be able to hit it as far as I did and beat my butt. Funny thing, he hits it 30 yds past me now but I can still get in the hole before he does. He's getting to play some great courses these days like Whistling Straights and Bandon Dunes. I'd like to be able to play places like Bandon but I don't think I could walk 18 any more. We'll be tailgating at the MSU game. Whole family is going to be there. I think we're in the lot refered to as "Tower" wherever that is. Stop by if you get a chance. I'm going to be serving steak sandwiches.
TB...not to worry. You have an individual opinion and while it may not agree with some it is your own opinion and you have a right to express it. Not everyone or anyone for that matter has to agree with it but still if you want to stay the course on your own personal opinion then so be it.
Thanks MCG. Nothing is going to change my opinion of Fulmer. Tom and I didn't agree the time Fulmer suspended the kid for the first game of the season until a hurricane came through and changed who UT played in their opener. It being a tougher game to open up with he allowed that kid to play the first game and moved his suspension back. We see Fulmer differently.
Tailback, so don't change you opinion of Fulmer. First because it is your opinion doesn't make it right. Second the way you put forth your opinion can make a difference, and learning when not to express an opinion is important also. In my opinion what you posted on Fulmer was a cheap shot. We let it go for some time until it started to get out of hand. Sometimes we all need to understand that we may live in a glass house and it doesn't pay to throw stones. While it may come as a great surprise to you I have read things on the internet that doesn't make the Georgia program look good. But my judgment tells me not to come here and post them.
"First because it is your opinion doesn't make it right." I agree with that statement. Everyone looks at things differently...we do not always agree and some opinions are hard to prove or disprove. That said....I'm with AJ....I'd rather be golfing......
Tough year...finally found a driver I can keep long and straight and my short game suddenly goes so far south I'm seein' penquins. Frustrating and not much fun...been playin' for 42 years and never had the yips until now. Almost (almost) ready to sh@tcan my usual theory of "just play your way through it" and consider taking some time off then coming back.
gipper, I don't play golf but I do bowl and am getting into two leagues here in Franklin NC. The first one is a senior league and it meets at 1pm today so I'm on my way to the meeting. I have to admit that golf whipped me many mango seasons ago and I enjoy playing with the big ball inside to the little one outside. But many times I do wish I had become a better golfer and kind of envy you guys that enjoy the game so much.
Stu...for the last 7 years or so I have had the short game yips especially putting but suddenly this year I have come out of it mostly and now my game is back to high 80s low 90s and I can live with that.
