    KP,

I've got 4 season tickets 19 rows up at the 50 yard line, come on down any time you'd like. The defense is only returning 4 starters but there were a lot of guys who played roles last year who will start this year.

    Sid,

As it seems you've found, Decatur Red Raiders. Decatur, Alabama. I'm sure all of the games are on the radio. I've been working with the school to establish a video streaming service that the kids in the A/V department can use. Our local TV stations would chomp at the bit to set that up.

I'll be sending my family the info to watch or hear the games each week, so I can post it here if you guys want.

Aw... Wish you weren't quite so far off.
I'd be all over going to one of Carson's games.
I never get to attend high school ball anymore.

Corey, Sure. Please keep me posted. If the games are streamed on the radio, I'd listen. I wanted to find the school's web site as the first step in keeping current during the season. The second step would be to follow the local newspaper, the Decatur Daily.

    Sid,

I've got better links for you than the Decatur Daily (which blows goat btw). I will round those up for you this weekend.

    KP,

I hope you do! I will be at all the games starting next week at Homewood.

Carson joked when this article came out because he is the one holding the blocking dummy that Peaches is hitting. I thought they were going to do an article on the whole team, but they just concentrated on Peaches instead. He's the guy ahead of Carson on the depth chart.

    I promised you some links.

The coverage at al.com is absolutely incredible. It's biased, but it's fun. You could probably sit there for hours reading one interesting story after another and the soap opera like coverage, especially for kids going to SEC schools.

There's this site which is a really cool idea, but the guy (or people) running it don't always keep their information updated. On Decatur's page, they don't even have their playoff run to the quarterfinals. It's just not mentioned at all.

    Still, some crazy stuff here

And this is a historical site, there's lots of interesting reads here:

Nice article on Peaches. I like the tradition of hanging the prior season's captains' jerseys in the team meeting room. Thanks for the links.

That DHS photo you posted, is that a cheerleader with an Indian Headdress on in the back ground? How do they get away with that, they're not the Redskins are they? :)

Yup, it sure is and I have no idea how they get away with it. I've wondered that for years. Now, since the Colonel Rebel thing is the latest hot topic for the PC folks, those schools are under fire.

Honestly, I don't think Decatur cares. It's kinda hard to explain. It's part of the Huntsville Metro area, but it's not. Decatur folks are generally hated in the other parts of the metro area. They don't care.

Every year, hell, every week the local Huntsville writers will pick whoever is playing Decatur and they just keep winning. (historically). I thought it was funny yesterday on al.com The HS beat writer for the Birmingham Region (where Decatur is playing tomorrow) picked Decatur to beat Homewood. The Huntsville region guy picked Homewood.

The time for talk is almost over. Kickoff tomorrow... and thanks for the good words about the boy. He's a great kid.

Yes that cheerleader (I guess) on the left has an Indian Head Dress on...very politically incorrect these days. Illinois got rid of their chief, you never see Chief Wahoo anymore, here in Houston all of the HS who previously had native american mascots have all changed. Only the Braves, the Seminoles, and the Redskins are left.

edit: FWIW I don't care, and in fact I supported North Dakota's right to be the Fighting Sioux, I thought it was stupid they made Illinois fire the Chief, and here in our town all the hand wringing native american mascots is stupid IMHO. But it seems to be catching fire all over, they esp target the white kids dressing up as Indians as being the most offensive. Heck the Hero of the Battle of the Sabine, a guy who the local papers always wrote an article about on St. Patricks Day since he was Irish..Dick Dowling...now they want to take his statue down, rename the street that's been named after him for about 100 years. Oh well.

    Terry,

I agree with you entirely. It's selling out actual history in some cases and that's just wrong. This year the Indian is a girl (white). They've had a black indian in the past. I'm sure this probably upsets people, but Decatur just doesn't care.

Brittney and I talked about how much trouble we had selling fund raising items for Carson's team because they were Decatur. The cross town rival is Austin. Austin is a much, much bigger school and Decatur has beaten them pretty badly over the history of the rivalry. We literally got the slammed door treatment when some folks told us they were 'Austin people.' Keep in mind, I'm a 9 iron from Decatur HS. Even our local sports writers pick against them regularly and are simply not fond of Decatur in the TOWN OF DECATUR! hahaha

One of the few things I've learned though is that "Decatur people" (meaning the Southeast white money and the Northwest black community" give not one sh*t about what anyone else thinks of them. They're the school that in size should be playing down at least 1 division, yet they are one of the winningest programs in the history of the state.

Here's a good article on the coach, whom I admire a great deal. I think you guys on the board would love him if you knew him. I know Sid enjoys these reads as well.

And if you're wondering if the 'Coach Rivers' quoted in the article is related to all of those Rivers QBs, he's their father. His kids didn't play at Decatur even though he still lives in the city. They played for Athens...and when they played, they lost to Decatur.
