Mens hockey starts off with upsets with Slovakia beating the Russians and Slovenia nipping the US in overtime.

Given the lack of NHL players and US Collegians being in the heat of their conference battles, I don't have a lot of high hopes for the USA.

These Olympics are pretty much a microcosm of our society in general. Allegations followed by apologies. Fake news. More allegations.

Well Mikela Shiffrin is human after all, she was glorious in her win in the GS which is not even her best event...then finished 4th in the Slalom which is reportedly her best event.

USA not really doing great this time around. Looks like the Euro's are going to dominate this Olympics.

Perhaps if they spent more time concentrating on their sports and less time on politics....

One reason ratings might be down is that they switch events back and forth over several channels. I have been watching hockey on NBCSN for a couple of hours then all of a sudden they change to another sport and now hockey is on the NBC. Same with figure skating. Why are they doing that? :?

    KP,

I wondered the same thing. It pisses me off at work when they turn off the hockey game :)

Not everyone has cable believe it or not. I assume that the switch to NBC was to enable those with only over the air TV to see some of the games.

Gipper, I hear you but if ratings are down that may be one of the reasons why. It's not always clear that they are going to switch so they just leave you hanging.

I see that Mikela Shiffrin who went to the Olympics dreaming of competing and winning 5 gold medals...is now dropping another event. She's going to not compete in the downhill and focus on the Combined event.

Lindsey Vonn will compete in the Downhill and the Combined at least that's what her she is scheduled to do, but that was before they moved the times which is why Shiffrin is only doing the combined.

USA vs Canada in Womens Hockey...the Canadians have our number.

USA Mens Hockey actually made it to the Quarterfinals and will face the Czech's . I didn't have any hope that we'd even win a game when things started.

The Lindsey Vonn/Mikela Shiffrin saga continues....I hope both of them can win a gold Von in the Downhill and Shiffrin in the combined.

I guess everybody has read about the wardrobe malfunction that the French girl had in the pairs skate. Well interesting enough you can't find a unedited version of it, lots of photo's where they edit out the good part :). What's happened to the internet!

Damn... USA loses to the Czechs in the shootout. Banged one off the post late in the third period and nearly scored in OT. Played in a tough physical game last night against Slovakia last night and looked a little worn down against a well rested Czech team. Played with great effort and heart tonight.

Good effort by a scrappy team that just didn't have the horsepower or the goal tending to make it happen...

I did see Germany beat Sweden tonight/today. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Can the Women finally break through and beat the Canadians?

Lindsey Vonn had to settle for Bronze last night, she and Shiffrin go at it tonight for the last medal ...both naturally want gold. Young queen vs the Old queen. High drama.

speaking of drama, who won the figure skating?

Also drama, I now believe curling to be more of a worthy 'sport' than figure skating or ice dancing. As my dad calls it, 'Little girls dancing for gold.'

I just can't get with figure skating. If you're the 20th ranked skater in the world, you stand exactly no chance of winning a gold, let alone medal at all. SO much relies on the judges scores and they seem to handicap the 'big names' to better scores than the 'lower names' regardless of the quality of performance given.

My younger brother was a swim coach for years. He was talking about diving, but you can apply what he said to ice skating. He didn't trust any sport where you had to rely on someone's opinion to know who won. Gymnastics? NBA Dunk Contest? :)
