T Better visit the Bucknuts web site and complain to Kyle Lamb concernig his use of the term: http://ohiostate.scout.com/2/603578.html
If calling OSU Gatorbait is enough to send you over the moon BT then maybe I should change my log-on name? God forbid you walk in my shoes on this board. At least I venture my opinions however strong they may be and I'm not timid about showing my support for the University of Florida. Comparing my use of the term Gatorbait with anything Gonzo has ever come up with shows you have a complete lack of understanding of the use of the phrase. I'll tread soft around you from now on. Hey BT....nice effort yesterday by the Bucks......they came up just a tad short.
Geez guys, I don't participate in a lot of MCG's in your face topics. But he's right, the use of the term Gator Bait is not derisive, that's the chant you always hear at Gator games aimed at the other team, Gator Bait, Gator Bait and it's not disrepective.
Sorry fellas.....we just think differently. I find gloating rude and distasteful. I was taught that you win and lose with grace, dignity and humility. You fellas don't seem to see it that way and in my view it reflects poorly. By and large when the members of this board face each other in games the winner has discussed the game respectully with his foe with grace and humility - at least that has been my experience with BobDa, TOK, AJ and Stu's Boilers on the occasions when they have beaten the Buckeyes - and I'd like to believe that I have conducted myself in that manner when we have been fortunate enough to win. Gloating has been minimal since Gonzo's departure and I regret that somebody has stepped up to take his place. It's proper place is on the schoolyard. It is punk and juvenile. Bill, just because a whole crowd of people are doing something disrespectful does not magically make it not disrespectful.
BT, I think almost any spirited comment about yesterday's OSU-UF game would seem to be gloating since it was such a runaway game. "No comment" will not be my modus operandi however. Keep in mind I have tired somewhat of the national media and most certainly the local Detroit media in their dire predictions for Florida on the 8th and it definitely irks me a little and generates more juice for OSU than I otherwise might muster.
Buckeye Terry, I agree with most of your post as it pertains to posts here on Skybox, and I think you can observe I don't usually get into the pissing matches. I particularly agree with this
Just be glad you aren't playing LSU, they will come to your neighborhood and chant at you!! <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/RZl5Vsdxfjg"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/RZl5Vsdxfjg" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
Buckeye Terry, I think you are one of the coolest posters on this board....in the same league with JO'Co, Bobda, and Dr. Terry. But I respectfully disagree with your interpretation on this one. As the old saying goes, don't confuse the gloating messenger (MCG) with the message. I do think, however, that when you live by the cheer, a la the FSU chant, Gator Bait, etc., you die by the cheer. When ND goes into the Superdome, I want to hear the LSU nation chanting "Tiger Bait" at the top of their lungs. I then want the cameras at the end of the game to focus on the forlorn faces of the LSU faithful when they are cheered out, and their team is being wapped over the head by the Irish shillelaghs.
TOK, been there and done that....we made a visit to Baton Rouge - and yes they were punks also - a few years back and I don't have a problem with the stadium chants before the game and during the heat of battle. I have participated in more than my fair share...... What I have not done - at least since I've been an adult - and find disgusting no matter where it originates and I do have a problem with is the bombastic gloating and derisive comments directed at your opponent after the game has been decided......that is juvenile and bush league on many levels. When it is so vividly displayed on the screen of my laptop after games end belittling the efforts of these kids and with derisive language directed at a fine 18 year old young man, it's pitiful, nauseating and a screaming indictment of its author. Sid, thanks for your kind comments but I trust you understand where I'm coming from......
Terry, basically I don't have a problem with your last analysis, what I was refering to is this comment. If you are saying that the fans in the O Dome Sat shouldn't have been chanting Gator Bait then I don't identify one bit with where you are coming from. If on the other hand you take offense to gloating on this board then I do understand where you are coming from.
