Thanks for the kiss of death Jiffy..... Very emotional win for those kids....they played lights out. Wisky had only given up 70 points one time this year - 70 on the nose by the Boilers I believe. To put up 93 on that team is just an extraordinary offensive performance. They clearly played like they wanted to bury Wisky on both ends of the court. I don't think I have seen anybody on fire from behind the arc than Diebler has been in the last two games......17 of 20! Dude is just on fire....they seem to be peeking at the right time. If they continue to play well, they should have a good run in both tourneys. One at a time tho....a good showing in the conference will guarantee a top seed in the dance.
A hijack to football. What are Buckeye Fans saying about the Yahoo Sports Report on Tressel? Tressel Knew?
Terry, As of this morning, things are pretty mum by university officials. If the article proves to be accurate, I will be very disappointed in Coach Tressel. This could really become a complete bag of worms, with some very serious sanctions by the NCAA. A response by the university is expected later today, per the Columbus Dispatch.
Great article on Matta.....glad he's on our side. http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/sports/stories/2011/03/24/winning-touch.html?sid=101
Nice article indeed. Matta was a great hire by Andy Geiger. By the way did you see where Jim O'Brien is one of the top names at Providence in their basketball search?
Terry, O'Brien has not coached since he left Ohio State. His settlement with the University has seen him through the unemployment cycle. I think the biggest complaint about OBrien was that he thought he was still in the East and would on recruit players who would stay for four years. I thought he was a decent coach, but not extraordinary. We had to vacate the good years with Michael Redd and Sconnie Penn, due to his violations and subsequent firing by Andy Geiger. Ironically the same situation Jim Tressel finds himself now??
I'm not sure what he has been up to.....I thought he was a fine coach having been selected Coach of the Year I believe at every stop, Atlantic 10, big East and Big 10 - not in a class with Matta - so things worked well from that perspective, but very disappointing because I thought very highly of OB from a personal perspective....and here's the story I may have told once or twice on this forum but as I sit in my office and look up at the picture with me, my infant daughter in her Buckeye regalia and Coach OB I have very fond memories. To set up the background, Coach OB and his wife had two daughters....tragically, his wife passed away leaving OB to raise the two young girls himself. In 1999, the Buckeyes were slated to begin NCAA tourney play in Nashville where my wife, 2 year old daughter and I were living at the time. The local alumni club arranged to meet the team charter on the tarmac, giving the kids a big welcome on their arrival in Nashville. OB was first off the plane amidst the press, local dignitaries - civic, political and NCAA and others in the throng. My young daughter and I were standing off to the side out of the crowd when OB steps off, passing the press, local officials and everybody else assembled and comes directly to us and begins chatting up my little girl in a very genuine and affectionate manner as only somebody who holds little girls in a special place in their heart can do and asked a local photog to take a pic.... I have that pic in my office, it is one of my favorite possessions and will always remember OB fondly.....I believe him to be a good coach and a fine man. I hope he gets back in the game....thanks Coach.
Nice story, BT. All too often, good people get caught up making bad decisions, which casts a pall over their image. It looks like Coach is one of those good people. Enough time has passed that hopefully he will be able to resurrect his image via a coaching job.
O'Brian sued Ohio State for wrongful termination and won a 2.4 million judgment against the school which was upheld on appeal. I though an NCAA offical testified on his behalf at his trial. Given the sucess he had at BC and OSU, my guess is that he will be coaching again soon.
