Oh and since this is Notre Dame in Winter... It's a frosty -4 degree's in South Bend. 32 and sunny here in Houston.
Coach expects Golson to stay, at least through the spring, to compete for a starting position. Let's hear it from the "What-have-you-done-for-me-lately" crowd. http://www.cbssports.com/collegefoo...lly-on-everett-golson-i-expect-him-to-be-back
I wouldn't expect the Coach or Player to publically say anything else to tell you the truth. But if Golson does graduate and he is beat out by Zaire in the Spring don't be shocked if he moves on to another place where he is assured of being the starter. Kevin Hogan of Stanford is rumored to also be looking around and he will graduate as well. Not to mention there are continuing rumors surrounding Braxton Miller.
Well if Harbaugh is looking for a QB he might try for Hogan or Miller who was recruited big time by Richrod at M.
ND <r><QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> I only got to hear part of Coach Kelly today on Cowherd's show. Maybe I'm reading into it too much but he almost sounded as if he welcomed the chance to play two QBs. maybe it was just coach speak trying to get Golson to stay but I really don't like the idea of having two QBs playing. I can't think of anytime or where that that has work on a consistent basis. Just because it worked in the bowl game doesn't mean it will throughout a season. At least that's my opinion.</r>
ND went to the title game using 2 QBs. Florida won a BCS title using 2 QBs. I'm pretty sure there's a few other examples. Call me crazy, but in this offense, you can't have 1 QB that you expect to play the entire season without conceding the run... which we've done and it hurt us. If he commits to the run, we're gonna ding a QB and we'll need the other one. It's as simple as that.. Didn't the Jay Barker Bama team that won the title also use Bobby Humphrey at QB sometimes in certain packages?
Corey, John Cooper used two QBs with Stanley Jackson and Joe Germain. Most of the OSU fans never cared for the situation, but it did work for that one season. Germain won the Rose Bowl that year with his pinpoint passing over Arizona State.
Yes Alabama has done the "wildcat" or whatever you want to call it, but usually it was two or three times a game. Humphrey, Palmer and Prothro are three athletes that I can remember doing it.
ND <r>Corey,<br/> <QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> Yes, I know it's done and has been done before but only in a very limited situations no on a regular basis.</r>
Who was the other QB that Spurrier alternated with Jesse Palmer? I remember watching one game on TV where they didn't alternate series they alternated plays. Did he do it for the whole season? That said I think everybody really wants one QB to win the job and be the guy no matter what level you are on. I remember Bobby Petrino one year had an outstanding Sr. QB and a hot shot freshman at Louisville and he made sure the hot shot freshman always got a couple of series every game and it wasn't always in mop up duty. Again more ideal to have a solid starter and an experienced and patient backup who is waiting his time.
Interesting article. Points 1 through 3 should stir up some conversation. http://bleacherreport.com/tb/dfL8d?...m=newsletter&utm_campaign=notre-dame-football
It would be nice if Golson stayed, legitimately won the job and had a whole year like he had the first 6 games, and Zaire was patient and Kelly made sure he got on the field for some meaningful snaps. BTW: Tom Gatewood was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame. Great WR for Joe Theisman. I hope Bob Crable gets in someday, I really can't believe he isn't already in the HOF to tell you the truth. He was one of the greatest LB's I'd ever seen in college, certainly at ND. I think he was better than Te'o.
My feeling is that Kelly doesn't want Golson back as a starter, he wants him back just as insurance. I don't think he's being straight saying that they both have an equal shot at starting next year. Of course is Kelly were to tell the truth "he be gone."
Nice article on Pat Connaughton ... http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/12133309/notre-dame-fighting-irish-senior-pat-connaughton-dual-sport-athlete-torn-basketball-baseball
Irish Women lost on the road to Miami the other night, first road loss in awhile and 1st ACC conference loss ever.
Irish Men's Hockey lost last night and play W. Mich again tonight. Irish Men's Basketball will tip vs #3 undefeated UVA in a couple of hours. I just sort of follow ND Hockey, but it appears that the mojo has left our coach. Sheldon Day has decided to return for his Sr. year, no word yet on Stanley. He has till Jan 15th to declare for the draft. I hope he returns.
