Yeah I think there might have been a little payback involved here, but really Duke is a better team...we beat them at home and had to have 2 really amazing plays at the end to do it. They have so much talent, I think all of their players are McDonalds All-Americans and of course Coach K is one of the greatest in NCAA history. I hoped though that we'd maybe make them work for it at least. As far as Alford goes, I wish him well as he has been a loyal hard working guy for ND, he was a Charlie Weis hire and was the only coach retained by Kelly. I've heard his real value is in how he relates to the players. When his brother died the ND community came together and donated money to help his brothers family, I was one of those and I got a hand written thank you from Tony and his family. You guys got a good man.
ND <t>On Alford....can't say that it surprises me. Every season I wonder if he's not gonna leave for a Coordinator or HC position somewhere but if he is leaving for a similar position at OSU doesn't make a lot of sense unless it's for a hell of a lot more money. Maybe he feels he's being passed over for a higher spot at ND. Guess we'll find out as this plays out. <br/> <br/> As already mentioned his best attribute has always been his recruiting skills. Can't really say his coaching skills as a RB coach are irreplaceable. <br/> <br/> We can find another RB coach as good or better but not with his skills on the recruiting trail. He always seemed like a great guy to me and I'll miss him if he goes.</t>
Yeah it's not like we've had a string of great RB's, of course that could be a function of the offense we've run and the talent. I don't know, but I think we'll be fine at RB coach. Also as good as he was at recruiting, I think he can be replaced there also if Kelly hires the right guy. Some guys are just good at recruiting, I know part of it has to be a want to attitude, and part of it has to be sort of a natural at ease with 18 y/o kids and their parents. Some guys have that but are mediocre as coaches, the trick is of course to get a good coach who can and will recruit.
The guy is a good coach and a great recruiter. That's a smart move by Urban in an attempt to get better and handicap a local recruiting rival. At the same time, please name all of the NCs won during his tenure. ND has been good before, and they'll be good again. I read somewhere that we have a former ND RB coming in as an assistant?
Autry Denson is the RB whose name is being speculated that will be interviewed. He's got a thin resume though. Currently coaching at Miami of Ohio. Is it a dick move by him to take the ND job, since any recruit at Miami of Ohio who played RB now will play for a different RB coach?
It really is a dick move. There needs to be a better time line for these moves. I see you trying to call me out on the congruence for my position, but you'll find they are the same. It starts with a few guys looking to make a big move, but they can't come right out and be honest...so they lie to the kids. You eventually create an employment vacuum and really the people getting **** on are the kids. Because no matter what most all of you say, the one thing no one gives a **** about are the kids. It's school uber alles, no matter how awful the school and their employees are. I just wasn't going to go there and be the killjoy, but since you paved the road.. someone might as well take a ride on it.
I think his value was as a recruiter, not as a position coach. He did not develop a single stud running back that I can recall. And his backs were traditionally poor blockers which really limited the offense.
ND <t>Quinn coming to ND as QB coach and........<br/> <br/> Glad to have him at ND and back with Kelly but not sure exactly how he fits in.</t>
Yeah, it's funny a lot of people have been saying for several years that they hoped Quinn would come to ND. But I agree it's an odd fit. He's forte supposedly is as an OL Coach, and OCoord...but many coaches move around during their careers in terms of what they coach, but it's usually earlier in their careers and as the get more established they get locked into offense or defense and to particular positions as well. edit: I did a quick look at my usual forums, ISD,BGI,Irish Ill, and didn't see anything about Quinn being hired. Lots of talk but I didn't see a thread or article that said he'd been hired. Although I do believe it will happen. I don't think anything offical has come out about Todd Lyght either but I do think that will happen as well.
Quinn? I first thought you were talking about Brady, but you're talking about someone else. Enlighten me, please.
ND <r>If Autry Denson is the new RB coach I think he may turn out to be a great asset on the recruiting front as well as a coach. Have a listen:<br/> <br/> <URL url="https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tocPjjxhvEk">https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tocPjjxhvEk</URL></r>
Thanks, Tim. I googled Quinn and learned of his history, especially noting his time with Kelly at Cincinnati. I'm fully informed now.
I think the Denson hire would be a good one. You can use young coaches as hype men to pitch the program, while they learn the technical aspects from other coaches who may not like leaving campus that much. Quinn and Kelly seem to have good chemistry, so that's always a plus.
ND <t>Another RB coach that Kelly is supposedly looking at is Deland McCullough. <br/> <br/> A little background info:<br/> <br/> McCullough - like Denson - coached previously at Miami (Ohio) but since then, he has built an impressive resume while working in Bloomington. <br/> <br/> Indiana running back Tevin Coleman finished second in the nation this past season with 2,036 rushing yards, and declared early for the upcoming NFL Draft. McCullough recruited Coleman out of Oak Forest (Ill.) High back in 2012, which shows he has an eye for talent, but he can also close as well.<br/> <br/> The 42-year-old coach recently landed the services of UAB transfer Jordan Howard. <br/> <br/> Since 2011, McCullough has signed prospects from Florida, Maryland, Virginia, Illinois, Ohio, Mississippi, Texas and New York. That would give him a national profile which would be desired for a recruiting coordinator. <br/> <br/> For now, Denson and McCullough are two names that we know are being considered. <br/> <br/> This guy definately needs some serious consideration!</t>
ND <t>Help at Safety many be on the way in the form of Avery Sebastian(transfer):<br/> <br/> Irish247 has learned that the Notre Dame staff is expecting Sebastian to end up in South Bend when all is said and done. <br/> <br/> Avery Sebastian, a 5-foot-10, 195-pound safety, who is looking to close out his college career elsewhere after graduating from Cal last year. Sebastian is originally from Georgia and attended the same Eagle’s Landing Christian High School as current Irish defensive lineman Isaac Rochell.<br/> <br/> Sweet</t>
