Men's Basketball had a good week, they beat Pitt on Monday with rebounding and defense, and yesterday they beat UC with rebounding and put on a passing clinic. We have 3 games remaining in the season 2 tough games on the road going to Marquette and Louisville, and Sr. night at home vs St. Johns a team that beat us earlier in the year. Need a solid finish to nail down the NCAA spot. Ladies Basketball is on cruise control till next monday when UConn comes to JACC. That will be a huge game for the Irish. We are likely to have to play them again in the Big East tourney. It will be the determining factor on whether or not we are a #1 seed or a #2 seed in the NCAA. I think if we split, we are #1 seed and if they beat us twice then we'll fall back to a #2 seed. Baseball swept Tulane this weekend in New Orleans, Tulane was a good program a few years ago, not sure how good they are this year. But this is a good start for the Irish. Hockey looks like a lock for the NCAA's and are ranked #11, 3rd place in the CCHA. Lacrosse is ranked #3, that season is just getting started. Hockey rankings are always interesting to look at. At this time Quinnipiac is ranked #1, I thought they were a political poll...who knew they had a hockey team! On the football front, Irish picked up a transfer punter from Wake Forrest. He's one of those kids who is taking advantage of having graduated and having a year of eligibility left so he can transfer and play right away.
Thanks for the wrap-up, Terry. I discovered that I can get texts for any ND sport. I chose MBB, Mens Baseball, Hockey, MLAX, Womens soccer, and WBB. I didn't realize that my phone would be lit up over the weekend with period-ending scores and highlights. I may just settle for TOK's weekly wrapup.
I like getting an experienced punter for 1 year. Fills a temporary need and isn't a 4 year commitment.
Here is another stunner. Zeke Motta, easily one of the strongest looking players on the field finished with 11 reps of 225 lbs, in the bench press, dead last of all the safties tested.
This article might help to put some perspective on the situation: Finding Context for Te'o's Combine Numbers
Dan Pompei, Chicago Tribune: Article: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sport...0226-pompei-combine--20130226,0,6498254.story
I am intrigued by some of these combine results. Turns out FS Motta is slower than MLB Teo. He ran a 4.83 today which explains why Eddie Lacey ran past him like he was standing still. Turns out, he was. 8)
So how freakin' slow is Carlo? With these combine results I have new respect for Diaco, he had nothing to work with in the upper classes with regards to speed did he?
The thing about the honey badger is that he's a really good return man and for the college level he can be a devastating perimeter pass rusher due to his speed. In the NFL, he'll match up against guys just as fast if not faster who are much bigger than he is. The Badger can play ball though, he's got heart. He may stick around with someone for a few years, but he'll have to adjust his game to focus on play in the backfield.
I just hope Manti has a good career in the NFL, he's a really good person and has worked very hard to get where he is. It's certainly a shame that the whole fake girlfriend thing has undermined all of that, but he has the character to overcome it.
On the way to work I was listening to John McClain who is the NFL beat writer for the Texans, he said that the crowd to hear Te'o was amazing, it was like he was a rock star. He also said though that no NFL people who he talked to believed his story. He didn't say what they believe though.
This just in. Brian Kelly ran a 4.71 this morning, easily beating his two star defensive players. he was late for a tee time.
Here are some observations from Mel Kiper about Te'o and Eifert. He is not always on target, but he has established himself as a reliable draft analyst. The comments are courtesy of Eric Hansen's Twitter account:
