Unbelievable finish for the women tonight, they won their 1st ever Big East Championship..beat UConn after blowing a 6 point lead. UConn had the ball with 18 seconds left and the game tied, Skylar Diggins makes the steal on an ill advised pass and after getting mugged goiing up court finds Ace all alone under the basket for the chippie and the win!

Loved the look on Geno's face! Suck it Geno!! :)

    :D :p

As a loyal member of the ACC...should we begin rooting for all of our conference brothers and sisters immediately? Remind me again of who our new pals are: Miami? Florida Effing State?

Well since Maryland and Rutgers are in states on the Atlantic Coast, what's the freakin' difference?

It's more complicated than that, it goes way back to the days of Rockne when the Irish wanted to become members of the Western Conference (precursor of the B10) and were denied entrance. Here's a little snippet.

As a result of years of stuff like this, we pretty much would rather quit football than join the B1G.

yeah yeah Geno is a dick. Yost was a dick.

We're joining a conference in which the school we'll be most like is Duke, and no one likes them either. I'm fine with this.

Me too, in my lifetime ND has always been the school that even if you didn't know who they were playing, you rooted for that team. Even on King of the Hill, Hank one time said it was a great weekend, the Cowboys won and Notre Dame lost!

    haha!

I've just seen, in my life, so much effort go into ND trying to please other people or to make the politically correct move. We've tried to move with the herd. Then at times, ala the Catholic Church, they fall back on hard line tradition almost without any explanation at all.

I'm 100% fine with doing what's best for us. No one else will look out for us. There's no conference brothers really since we won't join in football. People will hate us regardless, or love us. The upside to the ACC is that people actually graduate at those schools (including some athletes from time to time) and somehow we may not be considered the most arrogant team in our non-football allegiance.

Oh I'm not saying it's not justified. They are and can be. There's also a road that led to that. People don't ever seem to want to see the entire picture, just the part that serves their interest.

Funny Duke/Bama story.. As you know Bama played Duke a few years ago. My former employer is a huge hoops lover, and Bama fan/alum. He and his father took the trip to the castle in the mountains to watch the Tide play. He sported his basketball jersey. (he pulls for Tide hoops every bit as fanatically as he does football or anything else).

He said, to a person, the Duke fans would approach him like he was the missing link. A real Alabama basketball fan. They couldn't believe their eyes. He and his father were treated well to free food, drink etc and lots of people who wanted to talk hoops with him. As he found out, they 'respected his balls' and really thought it was neat he did that.. From what he could gather, not a lot of people outside of ACC country would dare do that. Both he and his father walked away so thoroughly impressed with Duke and their fans that they plan on going back for non-Bama related games. The Duke fans were quite realistic about who they were in football and would like to see it change.. that's just not the reality. That being said, when his father tried to bring up "Kentucky's impressive hoops history", he opened a pandora's box..

Surprising win by the Irish last night over Marquette, esp after getting down 17-4 to start the game. I liked the comment that with our uniforms we looked like 6'8" glow sticks.

Louisville tonight. Pitino has his team playing for an overall #1 seed, and playing well. I doubt we have what it takes to beat them. But that's why we have to play.

    Go Irish!

We played pretty well last night, Louisville is just a better team. Siva and Russ Smith are awesome guards both on offense and defense, and their big man in the middle is dominant. I wouldn't be surprised to see Louisville in the Final Four and win it all.

Living in the Midwest and having family-based loyalties to a couple of Big 10 schools, I would like to have seen ND in the Big 10, but the requirement to join for football was a non-starter. I'm fine with that. The Big 10 does not need ND. On the other hand, the ACC determined that there was value to its conference of having the ND brand in the fold, even if it meant granting an exemption for football. So we all move on.

<t>Well, just for the heck of it I thought I'd turn the subject back to ND football. I see Carlo is coming back which I think is good with Manti gone now. Watch for the new LB Smith kid to play a lot this year even if it is his freshman season. He'll be to good to keep off the field for long. If you haven't seen any video on this kid you'll be pleasantly surprised .</t>

I read through the transcript of Kelly's press conference. Nothing very earth shaking. He was asked a lot of questions about Gunner of course, basically said he was sorry he's leaving and that he did have a conversation with Gunner and told him he would compete for the starters job this Spring.

Physically the team is in good shape, looks for good competition at a lot of positions. He challenged Davaris Daniels to step up and be the player he can be. Said that Center would come from Hegarty, Martin or Harrell. Sounds like we may have Fox and Carlo as starters with Carlo taking over for Manti. This is where I'll be very interested, I've heard that Jarrett Grace has tremendous upside at the Mike position but Kelly is not touting him as the starter though, he's going to have to beat out Carlo.
