Okay, THAT is an incredible story. Just incredible and moving Obviously he will now be ND’s #10 and I Hope he has one hell of a season for himself, ND and Demitri. Sounds like a really great family also. The young man fits the Irish profile to a T.
Hartman’s mom and dad are incredibly impressive. Many tragedies in this story and one is that both took on an incredible responsibility to help and greatly improve the life of a young man and are now heartbroken over the horrific choice the young man made to end his life.
All of the articles I have read are really upbeat on Thomas Harper. Also Utah State DE Byron Vaughns is on campus visiting. He's a Grad Transfer and we'd definitely like to pick him up. From Matt Freeman on Irish Sports Daily Vaughns made 56 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and two sacks in 2022 and I believe Notre Dame's staff views him as a defensive end over being a true vyper. With the departure of Justin Ademilola, the Irish need some established depth on both edges. And it's likely Notre Dame is looking to get faster off both edges as we saw in the South Carolina game with Jordan Botelho and Ademilola on the field at the same time - but also Jaylen Sneed playing some viper on third down.
Coach Freeman was on ESPN College Football Live. Full transcript is on ISD and it's not paywalled. Notre Dame football coach Marcus Freeman joined ESPN's College Football Live on Friday afternoon. On looking back and judging the 2022 season: ”I feel like we learned a lot of different lessons about ourselves as individuals, ourselves as a team. As I tell the guys all the time, it had to be this way. We had to learn this way. We had to improve this way. I’m just proud of the way they finished. I’m proud of the leadership we had. At the end of the day, I felt we did a great job of finding a way to finish the season off the right way. I love these guys.” Marcus Freeman Q/A on College Football Live
Irish women lose to UNC today 60-50. Between turnovers and terrible shooting we just got beat. 3 point shooting was just awful and the inside shooting was just as bad, we missed so many lapups/chippies. As always just put it behind you and move on, this team is going to win a lot of games it's just not going to win them all.
So now CJ Williams WR who flipped to usc last year from ND right before signing day. says he may visit ND(and others) this weekend having entered the transfer portal. Give me a break..we’ll see. Kinda of hard to get excited knowing if he did come to ND ge wouldn’t flip and transfer out next year. Hell I still don’t understand the transfer rules. How many times can you transfer??!!
I didn't watch but I see the men's basketball got their first win in awhile, beating Ga.Tech in OT at Purcell. Good for them, I don't think it's a sign they have turned the season around as Ga.Tech also hadn't won a game in ACC play either. But it's nice to get a win.
Painful to watch. Like a team playing in slow motion. I was optimistic before the season, with the returning veterans and highly talented underclassmen. I'm sorry to say that my optimism has been stifled.
One thing that will have to happen between now and Aug 2023, the Irish are going to need to have at least 10 players transfer, go on medical redshirt or take a academic scholarhip. We are currently at 96 players and looking to add 1 or 2 more in the Portal. Ron Powlus Jr and Matt Salerno are likely to be non-scholarship players next year. For Salerno it's probably not a deal breaker as he arrived at ND as a walk-on. We had a Long Snapper who was on scholarship but had only played in 1 game I think in 3 or 4 years enter the Portal. No doubt when the current LS the guy nick named Milk decided to come back for a 6th year he figured it was time for him to take his degree and move on to see if he could get on the field and get some reps.
All the post season polls and power rankings I've seen have the Irish at #18 which is fair IMHO. I was thinking yesterday as bad as those losses to Marshall and Stanford felt would I trade the big win vs Clemson for those 2 losses? I don't think I would, sure it would improve our record to 10-3 and I'm not sure how it would have impacted our ranking, but we'd probably be higher than #18 depending on the score of the Clemson loss. But that Clemson win felt so good I just don't think I'd give it up.
With you on that one Terry. Not worried about rankings. I think that the portal has made us much better. Right now I think our O is strong. Hoping for a big improvement on the D.
Irish Women rebounded from the loss at UNC with a dominant performance at home vs Wake Forrest. 39 point win, a lot of backup players got on the court. The early enrollee, Cassandre Prosper from Canada really had a nice game. KK Bransford also a freshman who was the 2 time Ohio player of the year is really starting to get into the flow of the game and is very valuable off the bench.
Yeah I'm not really sorry to miss out on him, he left a bad taste in my mouth when he bailed on us in Dec for USC. Same for Amorion Walker who also bailed late, I wouldn't want him either if he comes available!
Same here. Amazingly our WR room is pretty full now so I doubt if he was gonna get as many snaps as he wants. May be why he left usc. He didn't see the field much this past season.
