Women rack up the awards. Coach McGraw ACC Coach of the Year Brianna Turner ACC Defensive Player of the Year and 1st team All ACC Madison Cable 1st Team All ACC Lindsey Allen 1st Team All ACC Marina Mabrey 1st Team All ACC Freshmen Arike Ogunbowale 1st Team All ACC Freshmen A lot of young talent on this team, of those 5 only Madison Cable will not be back, and to replace her we get Ali Patberg back and some more outstanding freshmen. We should be good again next year.
Irish Women easily handle Duke today, next up in the Semis is Miami. I will be shocked if we don't beat them as well.
Irish Women take down Miami today and play Syracuse in the ACC Tournament finals. They should win, and if they don't it will be a monumental upset. Irish Men beat NCState completing our sweep of Tobacco Road this year. Also coupled with the UNC win over Duke gave us a double bye and that is huge in the ACC tournament. Baseball lost to Bama yesterday and split today beating Brown but losing to Bucknell. Slow start to the season for the Irish.
ND baseball gets yet another walk-off win, this time vs. Niagara, 5-4 in 10 innings. The pitcher, Vierling, hits the HR and gets the W. Irish record 5-4. Congrats to the Lady Irish on another ACC tournament championship.
Bucknell, Niagra and Brown ...not exactly murders row. Baseball will have to improve quite a bit if they are gong to be competitive in the ACC. Meanwhile Irish Softball has won 12 in a row and and is 16-3, top 25 ranked.
Madison Cable was the ACC Tournament MVP and she along with Brianna Turner and Lindsey Allen were first team ACC Tournament. Cable is a 5th year Sr. she hurt her foot and didn't play as a freshman and has really grown into a team leader and an excellent college basketball player. When I looked her up she really has had an incredible basketball career, she had multiple state championships as a high schooler and was the top player in Penn. Has played in the final four each year in college. I doubt if she'll play in the WNBA, but I could be wrong maybe she'll give it a go. But she has her degree and most likely some very good job prospects.
More Accolades for the Irish Womens Basketball team Brianna Turner is the ACC Player of the Year and Coach McGraw is the ACC Coach of the year. Losing Jewell Lloyd, I think many figured we would still be a very good team, but not quite the 28-1 team that we became. Terrific coaching job by McGraw. Certainly a final four appearnce is expected and likely, but I don't see anybody beating UConn. Geno is the best coach in womens basketball and he has the best player in Breanna Stewart. But we did play them tough at their place early in the year without the servics of Turner. So it's possible that we could upset them. Irish men likely to face Duke in the Quarterfinals of the ACC tournament.
Two of the five members of the Naismith Trophy Girls' HS All America first team are ND recruits, Jackie Young from Indiana and Erin Boley from Kentucky. http://usatodayhss.com/2016/two-not...rst-team-for-naismith-all-american-girls-team
ND Hockey gets Northeastern in the Hockey East quarterfinals this weekend. They played 2x in the regular season ND winning 1 and a draw in the 2nd game. The Irish get them at home for the best 2 out of 3 this weekend.
Well the Demetrius Robinson saga takes a new twist. He signed a financial aid agreement with CAL. He doesn't have to go there but it does commit CAL to taking him if he signs a LOI for them. It does seem that he really wants to go anywhere but Notre Dame, even though he at one point seemed to be a lock for ND if he didn't get accepted at Stanford. The article says he might not sign a LOI even when he decides where he's going. That is so strange. https://n.rivals.com/news/unsigned-5-star-wr-demetris-robertson-signs-aid-agreement-with-california
Kizer and Wimbush are in San Diego this week (Spring Break) to workout with QB Guru George Whitfield, Zaire is reportedly working out with a QB coach in Arizona where his Dad lives. I don't know who I want to start the game vs Texas. After watching Kizer this past fall I think he could be really great, but then after the Texas game last year I was thinking the same thing about Zaire. But he didn't look so great vs UVA. I like that Kizer is tall and can see over the line, but Zaire has that running ability that works so well for a lot of college QB's. Also I sort of feel bad that Malik waited his turn and was seemingly a great team leader who was getting his shot....then like Wally Pipp he got injured and the guy who replaced him turned out to be great.
ND <r>Terry,<br/> <QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> I'll take Zaire.<br/> <br/> As far as the Demetrius Robinson saga goes.....I'm ready to move on. Even if he were to announce he was coming to ND would you or anyone else believe he would be there this fall? Not me. I don't know what the kid wants and he obviously doesn't either. CAL???? Whatever. <E>:?</E></r>
ND Mens Basketball Coach is now an endowed position: A gift of 5M$ by the Stacey's, Glen Stacey is the former chairman of the GAP, is the source of the money. http://news.nd.edu/news/65200-canadian-couple-endows-notre-dame-mens-basketball-coaching-position/
Well it's ND/Duke this afternoon. Hopefully that Irish team that showed up vs NCState will be the team that takes the court, not the one that got beat by FSU, Miami, Ga.Tech, etc.
Good Story on Jarrett Grace here... He's taking 17 hours to finish his MBA degree in May and graduate. He still works out with the S&C program and is planning on participating in the ND Pro Day. He says he's 100% and feels the best he has since he broke his leg and thinks he's regained his speed. Maybe somebody will notice him and invite him to an NFL camp, I would be surprised if he makes a roster but you never know. Good luck to him no matter what, he's well prepared for life after football. http://www.irishsportsdaily.com/2016/03/09/jarrett-grace-thankful-for-nd-experience-and-ready-for-next-step/
Congrats to Jackie, Indiana's finest. The list of players who have won this award is impressive. All of the girls on the list have gone on to have great careers in women's college basketball. http://naismithtrophy.com/about/naismith-awards/past-winners/girls-high-school-player-of-the-year/ She and Erin Boley(KY) were Gatorade POY in their states as well...more talent flowing into Irish Womens Basketball program. We should be able to maintain status as one of the elites of the game.
That's the advantage of a bye. Sometimes when you play 2 days in a row you run out of gas late in the second game.
