Another big win yesterday for the Irish Womens basketball team and the Mens Hockey swept Maine. The Taya Reimer situation has played itself out, she has announced that she will graduate in May and transfer. So that's the end of that, good luck to her and I'm glad she's finishing and getting her degree.
Congrats Irish the Cane BB coach said she was happy time ran out as she did not want to lose by 40 pts so dominant the Irish team was....
Womens basketball is definitely a have and have not sport. In the NCAA tournament you could almost just pick the higher seeded teams all the way to the final 4 and not be wrong many times. I'll bet in the Round of 64 30 out of the 32 higher seeded teams will win, not impossible for them all to win. You look at the scores, UConn hardly ever wins by fewer than 20-30 points. The Irish maybe not quite so dominant but pretty close as is So.Carolina and Baylor. Huge disparity in talent on the womens side that just doesn't exist on the men's side.
Starting O-Lineman Steve Elmer just announced he is graduating in May and immediately leaving to take a job outside football. Leaving his final year of eligibility on the table.
He reportedly has a job waiting as a political consultant or something like that. He did a summer internship in congress. Good luck to him. In today's world with concussions, and other risks to playing football I don't blame anybody who is still whole and young and has other opportunities to walk away with the mind and body intact. Truthfully even though he was a 3 year starter, barring a terrific Sr. year he didn't really have a big future as a NFL OL. He was probably our weakest starter and while he'll be missed I'm not worried about the OL next year, we have some good young players who just need a chance.
Steve Elmer's Letter on UND.Com http://www.und.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/021616aae.html Nicely done Steve!
You just can't help but admire this kid who graduated in 3 1/2 years and is ready to start his career outside of football. He has his priorities in the right spot and shows great maturity in so doing. From Midland, MI to DC. a great story.
Nice avatar Sid! ND women coasted to a win over Wake Forrest. The top 5 scorers for the Irish, all in double figures, were freshmen or sophs. Future looks bright for Muffet and the Irish.
Thanks, Terry. I had Muffet for a while as my avatar. It was a tribute to her nomination for the Hall of Fame. This one honors both the men and the women.
Irish Football took a hit with the Robt Beal decommit, he's the type of player, a pass rushing DE that our defense really needs and he's very highly ranked. There have been rumors for awhile that he might not stick, that it depended on his twin sister (I think it's his twin) getting admitted to ND as well and apparently that's not happening so might be one of the reasons he's looking at other options. Also can't discount what having Kirby Smart who as a DCoord was one of the best at UGA close to home. <del>Bagman</del> :?
Day 20 of the Demetrius Robinson watch...he was delaying his decision supposedly to get his SAT score and maybe get an offer and an official visit to Stanford, well that came and apparently it's not good enough. So he reportedly will take the SAT again in March and see if he can raise his score some more, but some are saying the March SAT is a new test design so that will make it harder for him to raise his score, also those results won't be available till sometime in May. Nobody knows what the kid will do if he can't get to Stanford, go to ND, go to UGA, go to Alabama, go to Ga.Tech (least likely given their offense). Been awhile since a kid has dragged things out this long, the last I can remember was that Ohio State QB Terrelle Pryor who I think took a couple of months past signing day to make a decision.
Irish Women stopped FSU's 31 game home winning streak last night, they had big leads and let is slip down to a good win but closer than it maybe should have been. Irish Men go to Wake Forrest tonight, they should win, but nothing is guaranteed that's for sure.
Regular season comes to an end for Hockey and WBB. Sr night for WBB vs BC and BU in town for final hockey series. Hockey could sure use sweep.
Hockey gets a split with B. U., which wasn't a bad outcome. Next up Hockey East playoffs. Women with a solid win over B. C., 3rd straight ACC regular season title. Only 1 ACC loss in the 3 years we've been in the league. Favorite to win the ACC Tournament. Irish men had one of those burn the tape losses vs FSU on the road. We finish at home with a very good Miami team on Wed, and then Senior night vs NCSTATE on Saturday. LaCrosse and baseball under way now, both men's and women's lacrosse teams doing very well. Baseball not so much, up and down. But have won 2 in a row in Texas. Softball doing very well, swept their tournament this weekend.
Golson will be back at ND for his Pro Day. This is a minor controversy with some fans feeling "to hell with him" he ditched us for FSU. But while I was upset with the way things worked out where he stayed for Spring and took reps away from Zaire and Kizer then announced he was leaving. But that's behind us now and he is a ND grad so I'm ok with him coming "home" and having his pro day with the other ND guys.
Big Game with Miami tonight. It would be too much to hope for it to be like the 1986 ND/Miami game in Coral Gables...but it'd be nice!! http://articles.sun-sentinel.com/1986-02-23/sports/8601120051_1_notre-dame-irish-first-half
