I see the Irish picked up a verbal from Plaxico Burress's son, Elijah. He's a 3 star from DePaul Catholic. I was never a fan of his dad, but hopefully the kid has the talent but not the personality of his dad.
Irish women got a big 2OT win at FSU. I didn't see it but just looking at highlights it was an exciting game and a great win. ND football lost Chris O'Leary (Coached Safeties) to the Chargers. Apparently he and Minter have a pretty long history together. The sites say that Mickens will coach both CB's and Safeties and Max Bullough will be promoted to coach the LB's. Matt Freeman said Bullough is a rising star in the ranks. Golden had been coaching LB's so that is off his plate and he can focus solely on being the DC.
One of the top verbals for the 2025 class is Ivan Taylor of Florida, who was being recruited by Chris O'Leary and now is wondering about his future at ND. Mickens and Freeman have some work to do to convince Taylor that the Irish are still the spot for him. It would be a big loss if he decommits and reopens his recruiting.
Well the Irish Men have won 2 in a row!! Wasn't a pretty win, 58-55 over GaTech, but it was a win! Another good game from Markus Burton, but also a great game from Tae Davis. Irish Lacrosse opened the season with a walk over of Cleveland State, Irish WR Jordan Faison apparently had a great game, not sure what Tyler Buchner did but with a 25-3 score I imagine a lot of players got some minutes Tomorrow night a huge game for the Irish women with Top 10 NCState coming to town.
The Shamrock Series was officially announced as 11-23 vs Army at Yankee Stadium, It's the 100th Anniversary of the game immortalized by Grantland Rice's famous prose. Quarterback Harry Stuhldreher, left halfback Jim Crowley, right halfback Don Miller and fullback Elmer Layden had run rampant through Irish opponents’ defenses since coach Knute Rockne devised the lineup in 1922 during their sophomore season. But the foursome needed some help from Grantland Rice, a sportswriter for the New York Herald-Tribune, to achieve football immortality. After Notre Dame’s 13-7 victory over Army on October 18, 1924, Rice penned the most famous passage in the history of sports journalism. “Outlined against a blue, gray October sky the Four Horsemen rode again. “In dramatic lore they are known as famine, pestilence, destruction and death. These are only aliases. Their real names are: Stuhldreher, Miller, Crowley and Layden. They formed the crest of the South Bend cyclone before which another fighting Army team was swept over the precipice at the Polo Grounds this afternoon as 55,000 spectators peered down upon the bewildering panorama spread out upon the green plain below.”
Well NCState came in and just beat us like a drum from the get go. Worst game by Hanah Hildalgo only scored 10 points, none in the 1st half and fouled out. NCState really played welll and was clearly the better team. We did out rebound them and neither team shot FT's well, they were 40% and we were 50%. But there weren't a lot of fouls called. We were 28% shooting and only 16% from 3's, just couldn't throw it into the ocean. Have to go to Duke next, better find the shooting touch again!
Al Golden has signed a 4 year extension, so he'll be back next year for the Fighting Irish. Of course with contracts and buyouts doesn't mean he'll be here for the 4 years if the NFL comes calling. Notre Dame defensive coordinator Al Golden has signed an extension to remain with the program The strong offseason for Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame continued as Irish Breakdown has confirmed with a source that defensive coordinator Al Golden has signed a four-year extension to stay with the program. This deal was first reported by John Brice of FootballScoop, and if the figures are accurate the Irish will have one of the highest paid coordinator duos in college football with Golden and offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock. Golden came to Notre Dame after spending six seasons in the NFL, and in just two years the Irish have developed into one of the best defenses in college football. There was speculation all season that Golden would return to the NFL, but this move ensures that Golden will remain in South Bend for at least one more season, and the odds of keeping him even longer are strengthened.
Prister on Elijah Burress Burress can play at this level and play well. He’s far from a finished product, like most high school prospects with another prep year to go. But there are some athletic aspects of his game that many – even most – don’t have. The one that stands out to me is his ability to cut within his routes at full speed while making it extremely difficult for a defensive back to detect that the cut is being made. He is elusive with a capital E(lijah). Michigan State/NFL great Plaxico Burress played in the NFL at 6-foot-5, 232 pounds. His son, Elijah, may not be done growing yet. I believe this is a prospect that won’t be viewed as a sleeper by the time the December signing day comes around. He’s easily a four-star prospect. This is the absolute steal of Notre Dame’s growing Class of 2025.
Lot's of good things happened yesterday. Hockey won. SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The University of Notre Dame trounced the eighth- ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers, 6-1, Friday night to kick off their final regular season home series festivities. Three Irish rookies scored in the win while five tallied at least one point in the game one triumph. The night marked Coach Jackson’s 1,000th career game as a NCAA Division I Head Coach, between his time at Notre Dame and Lake Superior State. Baseball won here in Houston, but Rice is way across town from me and it was a cold dreary night so I didn't go and won't likely go today or Sunday again it's a cold dreary weekend. Not even playing Golf. Women's Lacrosse beat #1 ranked Northwestern. SOUTH BEND, Ind. – For the first time in program history, the No. 8 Fighting Irish women’s lacrosse team knocked off the No. 1 team in the country, defeating top-ranked Northwestern by a score of 14-10 in Loftus Sports Center on Friday evening. The win over the Wildcats snaps their 22-game winning streak, the longest active streak in the country entering Friday’s contest.
Something I missed when it was announced. The Irish are going to have a series chronicling the season on Peacock in 2024. Not going to be the same as when they did that Season With ND about 10 years ago, but more like the ones that other teams like Ole Miss, Clemson, etc have been doing recently. Matt Freeman, or Irish Sports Daily, on the Irish off season so far. Notre Dame appears to have won the offseason as they signed an impressive graduate transfer class to mix in with a top 10 recruiting finish, while maintaining most of its coaching staff. It’s never easy to maneuver a coordinator leaving, but Marcus Freeman wasted little time as he got Mike Denbrock in the fold immediately. The Irish will now pair two of the nation’s top coordinators together in Denbrock and defensive coordinator Al Golden. It’s a move that shows Freeman’s seasoning despite it being a no-brainer of a move. The confluence of Denbrock and Golden will allow Freeman to focus his attention to areas of the program he simply sees fit. There isn’t going to be a worry about him giving more time to a position group or side of the ball as he now has coaches who have been there and done that for years.
Highly Rated OL, Matty Augustine, of CT is expected to announce soon and the Irish are very hopeful. That would make a 3 man class at OL which is very very good. Augustine, Black and Strebig. There is a 4th kid out there that is a possibility, Jack Lange of Missouri. He just released his final 6 and will be visiting the Irish this spring.
The Irish picked up a WR today, Shaun Terry, a 3 star kid from Ohio. Guru's like him and he was being recruited by Brown when he was at Wisconsin so the connection was already there when Brown moved on to the Irish Staff before the bowl game. I of course hope he's a diamond in the rough and develops into an excellent college WR. But I hope someday we will be able to pick up some 5 star kid like Ohio State and Alabama do all the time. To be fair though, Cam Williams (wr) in the 2024 class was a top 100 player, a high 4 star.
Irish baseball hold off Rice and sweep them with a Grand Slam in the top of the 9th. 13-10. Nice start to the season, but truthfully Rice baseball which was once a very good program, consistent top 10-25 is not that program anymore since Wayne Graham retired. Still good win for the team and a nice start to the season. Irish women basketball has a huge game tomorrow at Duke, sort of a must win for the ladies.
Terry, he may be a 3 star now but apparently it seems that everyone is offering him now. He’s offer list is incredible.
The ladies got a big win at Duke tonight. Hildalgo lead the way, but also got great minutes off the beach from Bransford and Marshall. Out scored them 21 - 9 in the 3rd qtr was the key, by playing great defense and turning them over. 4 games left in the regular season, 3 at home and a trip to B. C.
4 Star OL Matty Augustine of CT gave his verbal to the Irish today. Everybody is pretty happy with our OL haul for this class, as I noted previously it's possible that the Lange kid from Missouri might join the class but it's not a sure thing.
