Hopefully his high school recruits won’t go shopping for better NIL deals before even getting on campus.

That's clearly the risk of trying to minimize the Portal. Dabo is trying to do the same thing. It would seem the hope has to be that you do well in development and retention of the HS kids and only have a few losses every year. Add in a few Grad trsnsfers and a few others and it could work.

But if you have 20 or more transfers like seems to be more common then it can't work.

On Saturday, Top 150 quarterback Noah Grubbs announced his commitment to Notre Dame over Florida, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State, Texas A&M, and many others, going public with his commitment decision.

The ESPNU crowd spent a lot of time discussing Tyler Bucher walking on for football at ND after playing lacrosse this Spring. Said he has to count on the scholarship numbers, unless the rules have changed. But nobody bothered to look into it, he walked on to the lacrosse team, didn't really play much as he hadn't played lacrosse since early high school. Also it's not very likely that we'll see him much if ever in the Irish games, he's not played WR since he was a freshman in HS. He's a good athlete for sure, but very inexperienced when it comes to WR.

To bolster their argument that he should count on the scholarship numbers is that they don't think he's likely to being paying his way to ND. I'm guessing that he's made some $$ in the NIL game, esp from Alabama where he probably got a nice NIL check even if in the end it was not money well spent. Maybe he's thrifty and can in fact pay his own way.

I'm having trouble understanding why, if he's a walk-on, he should be counted in scholarship numbers? Is it because they think he's not paying his own way? How about getting off your collective asses and doing the work required to prove your premise before idly speculating on what you think is happening?

Haha, Sid, when has proving a premise ever been a requirement on the internet? Especially when it comes to college sports?

ND had another great year with regards to their athletes achieving in the classroom.

The University of Notre Dame led the way among Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) schools with 16 perfect scores in the latest release of Academic Progress Rating (APR) statistics from the NCAA. The Irish ranked ahead of Atlantic Coast Conference institutions Duke (14) and NC State (11) with teams posting a perfect APR score.

Lots of speculation that the San Diego State softball coach is the target for the Irish.

I give coach Shrewsberry kudo's for turning over every rock he can to rebuild the Irish program. Hopefully these guys can be contributors, they are certainly stepping up quite a bit from where they have been playing to the ACC.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The 2024-25 roster rounded out for Glenn & Stacey Murphy Notre Dame men’s basketball head coach Micah Shrewsberry. On Friday morning Nikita Konstantynovskyi (Con-stan-tee-nov-ski) and Burke Chebuhar (CHEB-uh-harr) officially became Irish. Konstantynovskyi is a grad transfer from Monmouth while Chebuhar is a grad transfer from Lehigh.

Konstantynovskyi is a 6-10, 245-pound forward, hailing from Kyiv, Ukraine. He spent the last season at Monmouth where he averaged 9.3 points and 8.1 rebounds per game, while guiding the Hawks to an 18-15 record with a 10-8 mark in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA).

Chebuhar is a 6-8, 230-pound forward, hailing from Marietta, Georgia. Chebuhar played three seasons at Lehigh and saved his best for last, working his way into the starting lineup. Chebuhar averaged 7.5 points and 5.0 rebounds during the 2023-24 campaign, where he started in 22 games while appearing in all 32.

The Georgia native led the Mountain Hawks in rebounding 11 times while producing 10 double-digit scoring games, with three of 20+. He produced a team-best four double-doubles. Chebuhar shot 46.2 percent from the floor, 32.1 percent from deep and 76.7 percent from the free-throw line.

There has been much unhappiness amongst a group of fans over the tenure of Jack Swarbrick and Fr. Jenkins. Just as there was with Fr. Malloy. This group feels like they didn't want ND to succeed at the level that made it competitive for the Nat'l Championship. With a new AD and a new President people are hopeful that will change. Here's an article about the new President, Fr. Dowd, and Marcus Freeman.

SOUTH BEND — As Rev. Robert A. Dowd’s first week as Notre Dame’s university president reached completion, it should be noted he already has cultivated a strong working relationship with third-year football coach Marcus Freeman.

“He’s been great,” Freeman said during a recent visit with beat reporters. “He’s been a huge supporter. We’ve met multiple times. He’s a huge supporter of obviously our football program but of Notre Dame athletics.”

Asked to summarize Dowd’s advice or stated mission for Freeman’s program, the 38-year-old football coach smiled.

“(Dowd) has a strong conviction that we need Notre Dame football to be successful,” he said, “and (says) ‘I want to help you in whichever way I can.’ He believes in the vision of our athletics program.

Do you guys remember when a Notre Dame football coach couldn't make an offer to any player who had not been given the OK by Admissions and that never happened till late in the kids Jr. Year when they had enough academics to tell if they would admit him to Notre Dame? Well that's ancient history.

This young man is class of 2028, which means he's not yet started HS I believe.

Longhorns will be a very tough opponent. They have 2 All-Americans in Rori Harmon and Madison Booker and they are very well coached by Vic Schaffer. Both will open the season as top 10 teams.

Not an especially popular move, easy move though. Many had hoped that they would make a bold move and bring in a rising star from a mid - major.

SOUTH BEND, IN – Former softball Monogram winner and current member of the University of Notre Dame softball program Kris Ganeff ‘99 has been selected as the fourth head coach in program history. Ganeff has been an integral part of the Fighting Irish success over the past 23 seasons, working as an assistant coach, associate coach and associate head coach during her tenure.

An amazing and surprising feat for a ND swimmer, Chris Giuliano. A couple of nights ago, he finished 2nd in the 200 meter freestyle at the Olympic trials in Indianapolis, to win a place on the U.S. Olympic team. Last night he won the 100 meter freestyle in a group that included the last gold medalist in the event. He'll be the first American to swim both the 100 and 200 since Matt Biondi in 1988. He didn't exactly come out of nowhere, but he wasn't among the favorites in either event. Fingers crossed that he carries this success to Paris and becomes one of the most accomplished athletes in the history of ND sports.

Irish 2025 QB, Duece Knight, has been getting a lot of praise in the Elite 11 QB Finals camp. That's great news, of course doing well in a camp even the Elite 11 is no guarantee of future success but it's nice for us fans at least. The only thing that worries me is that Lane Kiffin is hot on the trail to flip him, he's from Mississippi. Ole Miss reportedly has a ton of NIL money and is using it to it's full extent. He seems like a strong commit to the Irish, has been to campus many times and reportedly is very active in helping to recruit players to his class. But you never know till they actually sign, in this case Dec 2024.

Somebody posted that if Riley Leonard flops or gets injured and CJ Carr comes in and plays really well he could look at that as he would have to sit behind him for at least 2 years and other than Arch Manning and the kid at LSU, QB's aren't known for being patient about playing time and could look for a better situation for him to get on the field early. Of course Ole Miss could make him an NIL offer he couldn't refuse.

This carries with it $500,000 to help fund student athletes at Notre Dame. Not bad for a program whose athletic director was so often criticized. It is based on how each men's team finished in all varsity programs. We will get a big trophy. We also won it in 2022 (only got $250,000 back then).
It is also know as the NCAA Directors Cup. It is an award given annually by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics to the colleges and universities in the United States with the most success in collegiate athletics. It was announced during the last NCAA men's event of the year, the 2024 baseball world series event.
    The ultimate achievement
The elements of the trophy symbolize strength and perseverance. The silver surface reflects the images of all those who carry it.
