Notre Dame is going to play 10 ACC teams this season plus one other. The Irish will be eligible to play in the conference championship game. The agreement requires ND to play their non con game if it's on the road in an ACC state. That torpedoes the Navy game at the academy. They could still play the game in Atlanta, Orlando, or Charlotte or some other major stadium that qualifies. Interesting.
With Navy the issue will be the schedule. ACC is going to start 9-12, ND/Navy was rescheduled for 9-5. Can Navy play ND in Notre Dame Stadium 9-5? It would seem like that would be the best alternative if ND and Navy do want to play this year. Of course the AAC, of which Navy is a member, has not made any announcements regarding it's schedule, if they go to a Conference only +1 like the ACC you can bet that Navy will chose Army as their +1. I don't know what the SEC is going to do, if they go to conference +1 then Arkansas could still play ND as their other non-conf games are pretty much FCS/buy games. I would not be surprised if the Irish end up playing W.Michigan as their non-conference game.
With the SEC decision to only play 10 conference games do you think the ACC backs off their plus 1 game?
It sure is Tim and I find it depressing also. I also have to agree that your thoughts about not having a season is sure a possibility. Look what is happening with MLB which should be easier to control and we already have suspended games and there is the possibility that the Marlins will have to close down. I hope we get it worked out but you are spot on.
Before you can resume football you have to resume classes on campus. While ND and some other universities are planning to resume with new covid requirements, other schools are still having a difficult time deciding just what they're going to do. My daughter still is not sure of what type of schedule she'll be having at OSU. Last I heard, California schools are closed this fall.
ND students start arriving on campus this week. They have a plan, but as the old maxim says though... No plan survives first contact with the enemy: A piece of military wisdom deriving from a formulation by the nineteenth-century Prussian military commander Helmuth van Moltke. In this case the enemy is the covid-19 virus.
I see that the latest round of testing on ND athletes comes up with no positives in 103 tests administered. That's a good thing, I just wonder how that can hold though once they start attending class and living someplace other than the Morris Inn
I can't see how their going to make it work if they have students living off campus. This is only going to work if everyone takes this seriously. In other words it's probably doomed.
Well bad news for ND football, WR Kevin Austin who much was expected from this season, broke his 5th metatarsal and had surgery on Monday...he'll miss at least 6 weeks. It's too bad, if you remember Austin sat out last year for unknown reasons. Many expected him to transfer, but he stuck around and continued to practice but it was with the scout team, he showed some flashes as a freshman and a lot of people thought he could be really great.
30 years ago, the opening game for the Irish and the debut of Rick Mirer. Michigan and Notre Dame not quite the same programs as they were back then.
Irish schedule is out...no Navy this year. Sept. 12 vs. Duke (Notre Dame, Ind.) Sept. 19 vs. Western Michigan (Notre Dame, Ind.) Sept. 26 at Wake Forest (Charlotte, NC) Oct. 10 vs. Florida State (Notre Dame, Ind.) Oct. 17 vs. Louisville (Notre Dame, Ind.) Oct. 24 at Pittsburgh (Pittsburgh, Pa.) Oct. 31 at Georgia Tech (Atlanta, Ga.) Nov. 7 vs. Clemson (Notre Dame, Ind.) Nov. 14 at Boston College (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) Nov. 27 (Friday) at North Carolina (Chapel Hill, NC) Dec. 5 vs. Syracuse (Notre Dame, Ind.)
It's a good schedule I agree Don. I'm sorry we aren't playing Stanford or USC I like playing both those schools. Navy is a tradition, but it's also a tradition that some ND fans are tired of since they went to the option, mainly because their blocking scheme is dangerous to the DL and if you aren't prepared for the option you will have a hard time beating those guys. Arkansas while down still would have brought a lot of rabid "Hog" fans to the game in South Bend and it'd likely have been a fun atmosphere. I just hope, as do we all, that we can get through the season. We all fear starting and then having to stop because of the virus.
Irish pickup 2021 lb from Tennessee, Prince Kollie, he's the 1st lb in the class. Tomorrow the one that everyone is holding their breath on is OL Rocco Spindler from Michigan. It's either ND or Michigan.
