It was a figure of speech, Godfather. You and I both know Jif's loyalty to you is unquestioned. Remember, I'm a Colts fan. For that reason, I understand that I cannot be made.
ND <t>Well I watched about 3 qtrs of the VA/UCLA game and really wasn't really all that impressed with either team. The Rosen kid stood out not because he played so well but because he is a true freshman. Otherwise, UCLA had the better talent and it showed as the game wore on. <br/> <br/> We should win this game especially if we can put up some points early.</t>
Good 1st qtr, good game by C.J., haven't made a 3rd and short, Malik is not having a very good game throwing the ball. Down 14-12 at half, need to stuff UVA on their first possession and get a score to follow it up.
I'll be shocked if malik didn't break his ankle on that play. i really feel bad for him, this was his team, his time. now it's likely done for the year. kizer..your up.
Fantastic and unbelievable win for the Irish. Too bad about Zaire and his ankle injury. Kizer looks to be pretty tough.
That was really a great throw by Kizer, and an even better catch by Fuller. When he let it go, I was like no no no, pick up 10yds, then 10 yds and then kick fg...then I was like OMG, screaming at the top of my lungs.... First impressions: D was exposed today, Cole Luke was being targeted and successfully, that Virginia WR Severin looked like Calvin Johnson out there. The UVA QB looked like an AA, had all day to throw most of the time. C.J. Prosise is a stud, he's what I thought GAIII would be like, and to tell you the truth even with the yards C.J. gained on the ground I thought our OL was not what I expected, esp on 3rd and short.
0-10 on first downs? Are you kidding me? I'm just pissed that on 3rd or 4th in short we run a play with the QB 4 yds. back. WTF? By the time the runner gets to the line of scrimmage, 2 LBs and a safety are there waiting for him. Stupid, just stupid.
ND <t>Well I just don't know what to say about the game. I should be happy we won but the way it all went down was just crazy. We started out moving the ball just fine except we just couldn't put in into the end zone but I figure it will all be all right cause the defense is holding UV to nothing and the boys will be it rolling soon. Next thing you know we let the UV QB start looking like Joe Montana and we are down by two and the home crowd is believing. The team gets back into it and just when it looks like we are gonna finally put UV in their place....boom, down goes Malik. I know he wasn't having a great day but I thought then it may be over cause UV is still riding high. Next thing you know we are down by five and it's all on Kiser back and I'm not very convinced he will be able to complete a pass at all. <br/> <br/> Well.........young Mr. Kiser decides he's the real Joe Montana in this game and proceeds to put the team on his back and run for a 1st down on 4th and 2 and bingo...TD we win!<br/> <br/> We played a crappy game and pulled one out of our ass to win and at the same time lost our starting QB, who will be in ortho rehab shortly with our starting RB and DL....so there. Hoorah! we win but we sure paid for it. <br/> <br/> Thanks DeShone Kizer for saving the game. I'm happy for him but I still don't feel good.</t>
I remember the review of Virginia posted by the late Tod Jeffers and that stayed with me enough to look into. He was so impressed by the place and talked about the open seating on the hill creating a very beautiful, and incredibly hostile environment. The Hoos are tough at home, especially in September. That being said, fast forward to today. One of our buddies came over today to watch the game and hang out. He's one of the few Irish fans in Alabama, and he's leaving for England before I get married, so we decided to hang out watching Irish football. Both of us are doing a lot of questioning. He knows football, but not a tremendous amount. As our coordinators figured out what to do with DK on the field, I snapped. I did. I snapped like a Chevy Chase character in a National Lampoon movie and exclaimed, "We have four god damned wide receivers who are faster than their DBs even with an 8 yard cushion. We have a young QB who has a cannon for an arm, but probably due to nerves and a lack of preparation is showing some bad reads and touch. Instead of nickle and dime, why don't we just say 'Go long.' That was said immediately before the play. Now Josh thinks I am magic or something. It's not magic, it's the common sense things that sometimes Kelly either doesn't do, or takes forever to come around on. It's maddening. It's a Tenuta defense. They're going to twist, stunt and blitz all game long. Any time they roll their safety over the top, the CB will try to jump the route. Any other time, it's man on an island coverage with the occasional zone blitz that will yield a 10 yard rushing gain that will piss him off and he'll return to straight man up coverage. We're so worried about completion percentage and making things look pretty. Here's the facts, we have really fast guys. They do not. We have a QB in the game now who acn throw the damned thing 60 yards. How about every play include at least one long option? Every single one. I thought this was a lazy effort by our staff and it showed in the team. This week's prep should be taken on as a personal challenge for every member of the team and staff to play a very good Georgia Tech team.
I am in Chatham, Cape Cod and was able to watch the final three quarters alone before others arrived. The first quarter I had to listen to on radio with Don Criqui who is so awful that I was in a rage by the time I arrived here. It would be easier to decipher the action if it was broadcast in Mandarin Chinese. Kelly seemed pissed off the entire game. He and his staff are definitely not on the same page. The bloom is off Uncle Rico; that is undeniable. His schemes were shredded yesterday by QB throwing lollipops. Both of our vaunted CBs took turns getting burned throughout. And the storyline of the game was how UVA's front line controlled much of the action. I look for Wimbush to lose his redshirt out of necessity and Kelly to take over play calling which is never a good thing. Kiser goes down in the annals of great ND heroes. Let's hope he can evolve into a steady QB. Let's not forget that our strongest unit, the O-Line, failed several times to gain a needed yard throughout. They underperformed all day.
 Please forgive the late post. I actually found some work to do. The law mandates that we pass certain online courses every year and I'm now a certified expert in Sexual Harassment, Bullying and Blood Borne Pathogens. I really don't know how to analyze our Irish football team. Here are my areas of confusion: - I don't understand anything that BVG is doing on defense. We blitz and run the other teams ragged in the first half, but then we never slow down regardless of the score. This makes no sense to me. What is the point of wearing out your own defense? - I don't understand anything that Kelly is doing on offense. QB draws? QB blasts? QB sweeps? Sooner or later you're going to need at least 3 QBs. That's exactly the number of scholarship QBs this team has....except now they're down to 2. Ian Book can't get here fast enough. With this maniac we're going to need him sooner or later... - I was afraid that this game was harder than it looked on paper. As Sid pointed out, Virginia looked good against a very good UCLA team. Their stupid fans want to fire that coach, but he has them on the right track IMHO... - There's no point analyzing anything now. DeShone has one week to learn how to apply the offense; Wimbush has one week to grow up; and Book has 90 days to graduate and get his young arse into Notre Dame early...
:!:   BTW- I hate that TV color guy. He never heard of ANY of Notre Dame's players. He laughed at the idea that Fuller ran a sub-4.4 forty yard dash and implied that he probably couldn't run a real 4.5... Ask his opponents how fast he is...
Re: Blood borne pathogens I love the strengths of the female gender but we currently do not have any on staff to offend and if a Bruce Jenner wannabe pops up it is going to be offended damn the consequences. But what are the blood borne pathogens you are now tested in according to the law?
Bittersweet win. Always good to win and win on the road. Ok maybe UVA is better than we thought. Pete Sampson had it 28-13 in his pick. First road start for Zaire, ok maybe playing LSU in Nashville isn't quite the same....but please UVA is not a pit where you get intimidated. They don't sell out a lot of games, they sold this one out because of all the Irish fans who bought tickets. Maybe it was the coaches who were tight and it made the team tight. Malik was not esp sharp, and we clearly had a problem with 3rd downs. Defense maybe they thought they were going to be facing Texas again. I don't know. But as I said a bittersweet win. I just feel so bad for Zaire, he may never get to start another game at ND. This was his time, this is what he prepared for, now the two guys behind him and one of which is supposedly the most talented QB on the roster will get all year to prove themselves. He'll be ready supposedly by Spring, but what if he's not , what if Kizer or Wimbush have established themselves. Assuming Kelly hasn't broken them as well. Anyway, it's a win, and now we're on to Ga.Tech.
