They’re pretty bad. They’re not responsible for our ugly play, but some of their calls and missed calls are hard to fathom.
Chase Claypool should get the game ball. That catch at the sideline when he got his back toe down was special.
Well, the good news is that despite critical mistakes and doing everything possible to lose this game, the boys found a way to win.
It was a nice comeback win. This team is just not that good. Our D-Line was handled by freshman and sophomores for a large portion of this game but found their backbones in nick of time.
Well first off it was a win, not a pretty win, but a win. It was a gritty win. Va.Tech defense made some incredible plays, that hit on Jafar Armstrong on the goal line was a great hit and then the DB #17 picks it off in the air and takes it to the house. Huge swing. Then that same #17 made a great pick right on the goal on a long pass to Claypool. I thought it was poetic justice that it was #17 who Book beat on the TD run to win the game. I'll tell what was pretty was that final drive that was what 16 or 18 plays, and Book taking it in for the win. Book has lots of flaws that is for sure, but don't ever doubt that the he is a gamer who puts every thing he has into a game. I was really happy for him and for the team that they gutted out that win. You could tell by the reaction of his team mates that he is well liked by his fellow players. Our defense got the critical stop that forced Va.Tech to punt the ball back to us, they played well at times esp early in the game, then Va.Tech seemed to find their measure. But with the game on the line they did what they had to do and got the ball back for the offense. Not a great game for the defense, but they did what they had to do when they had to do it. That gaff by the KO returner was not good, Doerer did miss a FG, but he's really been solid this year and I'll give him that he's going to miss one every once in awhile. I thoght he might be a 50% kicker at best so he's been a bonus. The OL was ok given that they are missing 2 starters and we didn't run the ball well barely over a 100 yards. All in all not the bounce back we all hoped for, but a loss would have been just terrible for the team. Now they go to Duke, who is an up and down team this year. They've had some good wins and some bad losses. Hopefully this game helps the team and their psyche and we'll see them get back on track for the final push of the season.
Our defense was good, they kept handing the ball back to our offense and Book couldn't do anything. The score should have been 24-7 at half time then cruised top a win by 20 or more in the second half. Look at the stats, 447 yds to 236! Their QB couldn't hit a receiver that was 7 ft tall and 4 feet away if he had to! if he did, the receiver would have dropped it! We still don't have a running game and the O-line is average at best. I don't think there is any way we go 10-2. In case no one is looking, Navy is quietly kicking ass. The Defense played good, the offense........................forget it. I never would have said this a few weeks ago but now, bring on Jurkovich. We'll take our lumps and get ready for next season. We have a great RB coming in and maybe we can get a new O-line coach and or OC. 8-4 is tops for this team and a birth in the pinstripe bowl. The best thing about yesterday wasn't ND winning by 1, it was USC getting their arses handed to them 52-24 by Oregon.
I guess things could be worse. Check out things in usc land: Plaschke: USC's debacle against Oregon is final nail in coach Clay Helton’s coffin
They are doing all they can to put Helton on the cross, they better hope they can actually land Meyer.
I see where Isaiah Pryor is going to be a grad transfer to ND from Ohio St. He still has 2 yrs. of eligibility left.
Mike, I think he will fit in well at Notre Dame. He only left the Buckeyes due to the talent ahead of him. Good feelings both ways on the transfer.
